Jason from Flysky here, nice review! As we have said the firmware people can get now is for TESTING only and may contain bugs or missing features, it is as stable as we can make it but again, it is a test version, our changes will be public soon and parts will be merged with the official OpenTX branch at their leisure. Most people who have the NV14 are official testers and reviewers. When it comes to OpenTX we are very happy to keep supporting their work, if their firmware needs a bit more time in the oven, so be it, to us it's worth it. Although UFPV and Flysky have worked together to do something new and different, our ultimate goal is to bring more people together, build the community and enjoy the hobby.
Thanks for your reply Jason. Like I said I think Flysky did an outstanding job on the design and hardware. People need to know that the Nirvana is an awesome radio. It’s also good that Flysky is constructive and open to talk about while responding to customers questions. I personally haven’t had much communication with Flysky. But with this type of response I am a bigger fan now. Also people need to know it’s not a bad radio. It’s that the version of Opentx that all of the reviewers were using is still alpha version. And might not be safe for customers to run OpenTx until a further update. Maybe the developers at Opentx will surprise us all in the coming weeks or months. @@sirgaz3927 not yet unless you buy from authorized dealer, or ufpv but you can now buy the firmware update for 40$ if you bought it from banggood, but there are usable version out the box or can upgrade any of the other sellers radios
@@CripSkillz I have problem with my R9M module. Using the latest FW at TX, R9 and R9mini. If I set the output power to 500mw, nothing happens... the range is still so short... any help please? Is it even possible to increse the range somehow? so sad about it...

This is the new Chinese way to do business. Not just in this RC hobby, it’s everywhere now. Rather than pay the time and $$$ for QA, play off the hype of a new product and get it to market as fast as possible for market share. Let the customer feedback be the QA, let the customer do the alpha & beta testing phases, and profit greatly. Then in a few months time do it all over again with a new product. This is very quickly becoming the new business model of ALL Chinese manufacturing. Until people stop talking with their wallets and buying into “hype” this will not stop.
So as of today I've had this controller for a year with no issues.. I have the flysky version not ufpv as when I purchased I figured ufpv would have good firmware but never any upgrade... and I was correct.. as flysky has the latest and greatest firmware out and this controller is absolutely awesome... sold all 3 of my taranis and both my frsky controllers I only need 1

I purchased one and I was lost thanks for shedding some light on the situation they shouldn't sell hardware if the software isn't ready
underground fpv does it all the time. what sucks is that anyone who purchases their products are at their mercy when it comes time to upgrade firmware. the last FC I bought from them had bad firmware on it and almost a year later now, they still haven't released an updated/properly functioning firmware for it. I'll never buy from underground fpv again.

The Jumper T-lite had similar issues with external module power supply.. I believe it was resolved with using high quality 18650 batteries. The cheaper ones just can't supply steady voltage for the power of ext mods. I use Sony MURATA 3000mah VTC6 I865O Li-Ion

Thanks loads mate, I didn't get the whole activate switches bit from what all I'd seen around, first time with opentx too, with my fs nv14. You're one of two people I've seen be this frank and honest about the state of its firmware and it's appreciated. I figured there was an early adopter tax anyway, that and the lack of anything for it in the opentx repo, ufpv delaying one of my friends orders for another 30days cause of firmware, etc. Keep up the good work :D
Are the software bugs of the Nirvana fixed now? I want to buy this radio, and there are many positive reviews on banggood saying firmware works well now. Can you confirm this?

you get updates for your smartphone OS every month. Alpha revs always get fewer and less significant updates than beta revs or finals which no longer exist because somewhere down the line people decided it was okay to pay for an unfinished product. IMHO I think it started with the downloadable video game culture.

Great review! I just had my Flysky version on hand for a couple of days. It feels great and it looks great too! BUT I found it's a bit difficult to set things on the touchscreen, better use a stylus. Also, I cannot change the date in the config page, can go in but not adjustable. It just stays on 2000-1-1. Probably it's a bug too. By the way, I can still bind with the old Flysky receivers which is good.

Great review, you showed it in the video, but can you make more detailed video on how to flash a receiver (r9mm for example) using Nirvana`s RF module port.
It’s just dawned on me. Thats a shrunk down Horus interface.
Nice and honest review. Excited to see them wrap up the firmware. The one that they are selling from BG has different firmware on it, right? Firmware that has been tested by flysky to work with the transmitter... trying to say that the issue is with running Open TX, or the UFPV firmare, on it, right?

the one from banggood slightly cheaper but it runs on vanilla open tx@if i remember it right frm Andy RC's Channel (i dont know what it means)..radio frm.underground comes with full open tx.(yeah FULL, you can put all your household items in there...it can cook/ microwave/ do laundry/ wash car/ contruction/etc etc..whateva u can think of in this world.

This review is packed full of misinformation. Probably the worst most misleading review I have ever seen. Everything he says is wrong. He never mentions there are 2 versions of this radio.
For info receiver flashing does not require any change to the module settings.
Haas FlySky RC resolved any of the issues you had with this transmitter? Thinkin about getten one.

Crossfire works fine. Obviously if your gonna run 1-2 watts its a little hard on the 18650s lol the taranis cant even handle 1-2 watts for very long without external battery
maybee use vapor 18650 batteries.... they are used to big drains...
Is it power cycling with the R9M? The R9M requires 4-12v and the nirvana can operate on 1s 3.7(4.2). The R9m recommends 2s power. So is the nirvana providing enough power? Is the 18650 sagging enough to cause the nirvana to power cycle?

Underground is not shipping any paying customers radio until it's finished.
A little bird told me that they're being shipped to the ugfpv warehouse as I type. Then out to customers. The typhoon threatening China is screwing shipping up over there tho.
Can the Nirvana transmitter be flashed to EU-lbt firmware? Can I flash FrSky receivers with a cable from the transmitter to the receiver to be flashed? Like it works on the Taranis Q X7?

Depends on the module put in there. Use TBS crossfire and you’ll be able to get the furthest. 5-10 miles depending on your quad.

Great review Justin. That touch screen looks like a real pain in the ass to use. I could tell you were getting a little frustrated... it would drive me nuts.
I've had the flysky i10 for about two years now, it uses the same screen and touchscreen and let me tell you it's just great. It's so much faster than a taranis it's just incomparable. Like anything it might take a little getting used to but it's really great.
The standard nirvana is just open tx. The underground fpv version has custom software. Given their awful rep it’s not surprising they’ve messed up the release. I don’t think any reviewer has claimed it finished, and many have commented on the not working features, so that’s a bit disingenuous.

As well, most of the Nirvanas that HAVE BEEN shipped, shipped with non-functioning software or basically a controller that wouldn't turn on. Very misleading clickbaited video here because as a reviewer of the same product you were given that same information up front as the others were.
as usual, underground fpv is awful at having proper firmware on their hardware. I feel bad for everyone who purchased this TX.
I would like to point out that way back when I got my original Taranis it didn't do telemetry or sensors or anything. I had to flash and upgrade firmware as it came along ...and then buy the new receivers to go along with it and flash them from the Radio pins also...so I do not see why the Nirvana is being classified any different from that..

I bet no one has mentioned that Underground FPV has horrible customer service so good luck to anyone that has bought this radio and might need any support. I leatned the hard way luckly I was just ordering something from the Underground FPV website. Im not the only one either.

This is not going to be nice because I'm not getting paid, I'm the one spending the money.
Software: So yeah, it's crap. The software without question sucks. The touch screen just friggin blows. I have to hit the stupid thing half a dozen time to get it to respond. And good luck finding dual rates or anything else. And WTF is the "weight" option for under INPUTS? Why is there a user manual option and quick start guide option to choose yet they are blank? !!!!!!YEP FRIGGIN UNFINISHED!!!!! If you want to change expo then be very very careful because you will get kicked off the menu if your tap is not quite in center of the "+" symbol. Want to change the expo to 30... tap tap tap tap 30 friggin times. Nope, you can't tap and hold because that's not the Underground way. Maybe Steve Jobs didn't die after all. He's now haunting us in the FPV world. Oh yeah, And there is ">>" option to advance in multiples of 10 for expo. WTF!?!?!? The symbol ">>" in every other place in the universe means next page, not 10. The Min and Max options do NOT work and neither does the default. Only the plus, minus and the >> symbol.
Did I mention Dual rates? Where the f@#$ is that option?
What about a user manual? That would have been a nice to pull out of someone's brain and published for those of us who are not part of the development team. Speaking of the development team, all the coders should be fired and replaced with people who have a smidge of experience with a quality radio system like Futaba or Spektrum.
Hardware: The fact that you have to remove the batteries for charging just flat out sucks, but obviously FlySky could not be bothered with doing what everyone else started doing 20 years ago. Two thumbs up for that sorry s#!t. Switch SWH & SWE on the bottom of the controller get in the way of the two lower switches, SWG & SWF. SWH & SWE should rest in the up position for those of us who don;t have girl/Chinese sized fingers. Try to raise switch SWH and you are likely to hit SWG causing it to change positions. The opposite is also true. Try to flip SWG and you'll often bump SWH. You can flip SWG by pressing it in a diagnal direction, but that's just going to screw up the switch in short order. Hope one of those is not the kill switch when your up 70ft in the air hauling ass through a park.
Microsoft Windows has a lot of bugs because there are so many different manufactures of mobos, video cards, memory and some combination will cause problems. After all Microsoft makes the software only, but FlySky and Underground have no damn excuse other than they needed to start bring in money before the product was finished.
All said and done I spent... No I was robbed of almost $250.00 for this POS including extras and it's friggin useless to me. Not sure why so many people are raving about this good looking brick other than they got it for free or they spent so much that they cannot bring themselves to admit it's crap, but it is.
Don't get me wrong. like an Appl/Mac, It looks great and feels awesome, but it just friggin sucks beyond sucks. I could not overstate how bad the touch screen is and how bad the software is. Put some darn buttons or a roller wheel on it and do away with the gimmicky touch screen. Hire some people that know what they are doing. I did not spend $250.00 on this thing. I was robbed of $250.00 by a dishonest company who lied by way of omission. I'd of never bought this thing had I known the software was Alpha and not finished. Maybe all the problems can be traced back to crap software and maybe if Underground ever decides to give a ratsAss and release some halfAssed software I might love it, but for now I'd say, buyer beware.

Justin when it’s in Beta it’s not ready for prime time. It’s still an experimental version. Nirvana should nt even be wasting paid beta testers time at this pt in development let alone selling commercially

really appreciate the info D.M. If anybody follow from beginning the pre-release Nirvana, they do says its still in developing stage, YOU WILL NEED TO UPGRADE FIRMWARE OCCASIONALLY!... Theres no need to put comments saying this and that.. incomplete this/incomplete that/some features not functioning/etc etc/bla bla bla...do some research than you'll know.
People are getting radios frm BG etc preorders who have not followed anything and expect a finalized product. Also some of the issues like the external module supply aren't going to get fixed without replacing hardware.

Justin, I'd like to ask, if I might, what version of OpenTX this radio has installed on it? You failed to mention that earlier versions DID have the power down issue, and that has long since been fixed, several updates ago. Knowing that most reviewers do their reviews well before they're actually posted, I have to ask again, are you posting irrelevant and outdated information, or have you just not bothered to research the product that you're reviewing? Also, bashing UndergroundFPV, since no one that is not a tester/developer has a UFPV model yet, at all, is not cool. The Bangood version, software side, is quite different from UFPV, and it's up to the individual retailer, or OpenTX themselves, to keep those NON UFPV versions updated. If you knew all of this before you posted, then why post the video? Clicks and views isn't worth it when this kind of bad information is being put out. It only degrades your channels name and reputation. The reason no other reviewer is telling us this information is because they have the correct software version. Just my $.02. Take it as you will.... I'm just a nobody here...
Dude pay attention. I showed the Opentx version in the video. Did you even watch it? Or here to troll people? It’s latest firmware release. Actually if the other reviews are running any version of openTx available they don’t have the correct version. Secondly I didn’t comment on UDFPV so obviously your not paying attention. If you want to bash then pay attention. I’m not actually bashing Flysky. They did a great job on the radio. But as you can clearly see on the forum Opentx devs does admit it is nowhere near ready and shouldn’t be used. And they don’t know when it will be. Nothing in this video degrades my channel. Actually quite the opposite. If your butthurt go to another channel. I think it’s dangerous to fly your hardware on a firmware that’s not close to ready. If anything I’m doing the public a service by letting them know. You obviously have stakes with Flysky or you wouldn’t be so bent. So you think people shouldn’t know this “bad information?” You’re nuts dude. Finally there is no correct version of the software if you are referring to OpenTx which my video is. Again Opentx devs themselves even say it’s not ready and don’t know when it will be. Could be months. Have a good one.
And further.. “Flysky” mentioned YESTERDAY on RC Groups in the latest release that you still need to use external power for stability. None of my info is outdated. Actually it’s the most up to date out there.
I think it's bullshit that underground FPV is having a different version than the flysky and that if you don't buy from them you won't be able to download their upgrades to the radio.
I think it's pretty upsetting that underground help develop this and then are trying to steal customers by offering upgrades through them as long as you buy one of their transmitters!!!

Do not buy the banggood/gearbest knock off...and do not use that Frsky crap on that system and you will be golden!! Get the UFVP version and use Crossfire :)....

...although you are correct it is not a knock off, it comes directly from Flysky, but the Flysky direct version does not have the same firmware as the UFPV does.
Bernie Poppe I personally wouldn’t buy shit from Banggood or Gearbest not even a toothpick! I think if your buying anything you should be buying from local hobby stores or local online like RMRC not these scam Chinese sites that screw you when something goes wrong and you have to return. I’d rather pay a little extra and have the security of good customer service and support and be able to return a defective item in a timely manor. Just my 2 cents on it.
