Officers who have served at least 9 years get paid about $110,000 annually. Meanwhile, they barely risk their lives at all, because the county has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. J A It’s actually refreshing to see leadership see and understand the use of their taxpayers money in resources necessary to fulfill their obligations to the community. In these cases law enforcement and firefighting/rescue. For them to work to address loses like this to surrounding communities, communities that shoulder none of the cost in training and pay for these candidates is a good thing. No it’s not illegal for these folks to quit, but there is something wrong with it and a remedy sought. If you spent 100,000 to train an employee only to see that person and others simply quit your business and walk across the street to your competitor to work I’m 100% that would bother you as well.

They went to departments with 20k+ in pay, and had a year of experience under their belts. All they did was prevent the innevitable. You want it to stop? Then resolve the #1 reason for them leaving in the first place. Pay them. If you dont want to do that, then stop bitching when they leave. Leaving PD all together was the best choice I ever made. I mean you apply for an police or firedepartment officer, you finish training and you find out that the next city to you pays more money of course you will go there for work. That simple right?

People quit jobs for other opportunities elsewhere all the time so why can't cops? Maybe some recruits decided that they don't like the work. Let them quit we don't need any cop on the street who don't want the job.

So Dallas and other cities (like Detroit) have the same problem. They pay to train and certify people, who then quit and go work for higher paying suburban areas. There are a few ways to correct this problem.
    1) Make the recruits sign a contract that states they are required to work for the city that trained them for a certain number of years. I would suggest between 3 and 5 years.
    2) Make the Suburban cities pay back the cost of the training the Recruits received.
    3) Give the Recruits the same standard pay in the whole area.
    4) Have all the cities pitch in to foot the cost of training the new Recruits.

This is true in my state the PD officers are getting trained and leaving the big city for other departments. Thay are not leaving the PD. just using the 1 dept. then doing Lateral transfer.
