When to visit Almaty
• You can visit Almaty any time of the year.
• Best season to visit Almaty is June - September when it is full of lush greenery and the weather is very pleasant.
• If you are not afraid of cold and love to play in snow, then come here in December - February!
• Or, visit in October - November to witness Almaty covered in yellow coloured leaves. It is an amazing sight.
Where to stay in Almaty
Best place to stay is near the Zenkov's Cathedral / Panfilov Street / KokTobe. It will put you very close to most of the tourist attractions in the city.
How to travel in Almaty
• Best and most convenient way is to travel by taxi. You can install Yandex Taxi app. It offers very reasonable prices and taxis are readily available.
• Public transport is very well developed in Almaty. Use 2GIS app to navigate in Almaty instead of Google Maps.
• You can pay via cash on buses/trams (150 Tenge per trip) or purchase a bus card from the airport (ONAY Card).
Language Barrier
Although the younger generation generally speaks English, you may occasionally find that people don't understand English. You can use Google Translate or Yandex Translate apps for easy communication. You can download the offline version of "English⇔Russian" dictionary in these apps.
Local SIM Card:
You can buy a local SIM near the exit gate of airport. They have stalls of Altel/Beeline/Kcell etc.
Currency:
Currency used in Kazakhstan is Tenge. Current exchange rate is 1 INR = 5.5 Tenge. Or 1 USD = 460 Tenge. It is suggested to bring USD from India and exchange for Tenge at the airport. You will get good rates.
How to reach Shymbulak via bus?
Take Bus No. 12 to reach Shymbulak.

You can also visit Big Almaty Lake, or do a full tour of Canyon and walk in it (in addition to what we've shown in the video), First President Park, Almaty Zoo, Dolphin show in Gorky Park, National Museum, Miami Aquapark etc can also be covered. Or you can Ski in Shymbulak!

March would be a good time to visit. Snow will still be there in Shymbulak till mid-April. And I'm sorry I searched on their official website but could not find an answer to your question regarding taking infants on chair car. You can check at the information desk there. Alternatively, you can skip the chair car and go to the top in gondola. That will surely be allowed. I remember having seen there that it's free for kids under 5.

1) Trip to Canyon does not include a lot of walking/hiking. But Kaindy lake requires walking since you have to walk uphill. In Kaindy, you can alternatively ride a horse to the top. But we didn't see many kids there. I think it would be difficult with kids on Kaindy lake. However, trip to Kolsai lake can be done with Kids since it does not involve much walking/hiking. You can opt the trip which has only Canyon and Kolsai Lake. You can watch this video for full details of day trip - th-cam.com/video/6rwlxO3c21o/w-d-xo.html
2) Snow and Fall can only be seen in November. It does not snow before November and fall is over in December.
3) Tamgaly Petroglyphs are near Almaty (about 150km). You need to book a private taxi for that through any local tour agent. I'm not sure how you can visit Aksu-Zhabagly Nature Reserve but I would say you can take a flight from Almaty to Shymkent and then go by road.
4) Currently there is no direct flight from India to Shymkent or Turkistan. You will have to change from Almaty.

I can only suggest your tour operators for the day tour. You can book it through Instagram accounts of various tour operators like - sayahat.tike , satty_travel etc. It will cost around 8000-12000 Tenge (₹1500-2200).
But I will not be able to recommend any travel agency for the entire trip from India since we research, plan, and execute all our trips by ourselves only!

Why do they need artificial snow?
Shymbulak is a ski resort because it receives good amount of snowfall from December to February. But, for making it operational in November and subsequent months to February, they use artificial snow to increase the amount of snow padding and to make skiing safer.
Artificial snow is not everywhere. It's just on the skiing trail.

But why are our Indian tourists shouting infront of the Cathedral in a foreign country?
Firstly it is a public place in a different country, it has it's own rules and regulations.
When I was in the same Zhekov's cathedral in Almaty this November, it was so quiet and everyone was enjoying with themselves without creating any sort of nuisance.
Wjy do we have to be the spoil sport everywhere!
Another incident that i noticed at the Almaty airport arrivals was when a bunch of Indian male tourists were at the Sim card shop to get sim cards midnight.
One of them started recording the lady at the shop without her permission. The lady was literally feeling uncomfortable as the men in the group couldn't stop staring at her and talking about her.
I mean how low can we fall!!

You will be in walking distance to many tourist attractions like Panfilov street, Zenkov's cathedral, war memorial, central park, Almaty zoo, Green bazaar, Rakhat chocolate factory, Kok Tobe, etc.

Yes absolutely! That is a time when ski resort will be functional but be aware that the temperature drops to-25! So you need to buy harpa jackets from decathlon!

January is a cold month. Temperature can stay between 0 and -10 and Shymbulak even colder. Warm cloths carry karein apne sath agar Jan me jana hai to.
