England's soul singing gift to Rock n' soul. Steve Winwood was only 17 years old when The Spencer Davis Group begged the youngster to join the Band back in 1966. The rest is History.
Stevie Winwood rocked it, and only 17 when he sang this....One of the best dance songs of its time!!! Still sounds as good today as it did over 50yrs. ago when I danced to it at the dance halls!!
Great song. It's hard to believe that Steve Winwood was just a teenager when he joined the Spencer Davis Group. His voice would later become one of the most recognizable in all of rock.
Most people do not know that on his solo album, "Roll With It," he sang, and played every instrument on every track. R&R HOF in 2004 with :Traffic." I am 74 and Steve as that 15 year old , then "Traffic" and many collaborations, especially with Eric Clapton, has been a major element in my life. His WIKI article is amazing.
@@jetobey5656 A moment in English time: teenagers Robert Palmer, Steve Winwood, Dwight what's his name, Rod Stewart, Eric Burdon, the list runs on and on.
This is easily one of my top 10 songs of all time. Not many reactors pick up on this one, so glad you did. Bad thing about this song is if it comes on while I'm driving...I will be getting a speeding ticket cuz my foot goes to the floor involuntarily. Lol.
I am now 75 years old, yet this performance is one I can summon up anytime to remind me of real R & R. From here, Steve only got better, but it did not take much to be one of the best. He has shined through everyone with whom he has played. He is a reliable foundation of classic rock music. NOTE: Steve is only a couple years younger than I am. I heard him when we were for all practical purposes, contemporaries.
I love Jayy and her reactions, WOW! I have to ask a question. Are there really so many people that have not heard the greatest music ever from my generation. It makes me sad to think that. Thanks to all the reaction videos for highlighting the greatest era ever in music.
Great timeless song, can't go wrong with Steve Winwood. Had some solo hits also. Roll with It was awesome. The 60s had such awesome happenin songs. EXPRESSWAY TO YOU HEART by Soul Survivors is terrific, worth reacting to. From 68. Keep up the good work
My dad showed me this song as a kid and told me its impossible to stay still or be in a bad mood when this song is playing. To this day if I’m ever in a funk of a mood...I play this song. Works every time.
wow... I haven't heard SDG in ages. I forgot all about them. But as soon as the song started though, I remembered them. At dances you always throw your arms into the air when they say, "Hey!!!' lol Thanks for your reaction, Jayy..... Enjoyed it. Thanks, April! Take care and be well. Peace.
Hi Jayy. This reaction is awesome. I love to see you smile like that. There is many more Steve Winwood songs to listen to. He was steadily cranking out the hits up un til the early 90s. Some of the songs that are must to listen to are..."Dear Mr. Fantasy", "Cant Find My Way Home" "Back in the High Life Again", "Valerie" '"Higher Love".
It was a lot of fun to hear it on the radio back in 66 when I was sixteen. It did brighten up your day..Motwn though was always the sure cure for boredom especially at basement dance parties. You had to have Smoky Robinson on hand for the slow dances.Tracks of my tears was a transcendent classic,a love song among many ,many, love songs to compete with.Play any Motown.,please.
OMG!!! I am so excited. 2 reactions in 1 day. Thanks!! Well as you can probably tell I like vocals with passion. Steve Winwood's voice here is fantastic! He was only 17 at the time....and then Leon Stubbs on "Bernadette"....his voice emanated such strong emotions in that song. So I guess that's why I chose these songs, and Neil Diamond, just because he's a legend and that song really resonates with me. That was an awesome treat. Thanks
Very much a real feel good track. I couldn't really tell you exactly how long ago that this was initially released but way before I was born. The song has been used in quite a few movies including the 2004 version of Flight of the Phoenix. The Spencer Davis Group also consisted of Steve Winwood (Higher love and Valerie).
Steve Winwood joined SDG when he was 15. His mother insisted that older brother Muff had to join the group for Steve to get in. After SDG, Steve formed Blind Faith and Traffic before going solo.
That's a teenage Steve Winwood singing and playing the organ! Joined the group when he was 15 years old! Multi instrumentalist! Organ, piano, guitars, mandolin, harmonica, etc!
its got one of those sounds like they just were having a great time in the studio and someone happened to press "record", just loose and jangly and organic. I love that.
Their previous single had been a flop and they were under pressure for another hit. Their manager locked them in a rehearsal studio at 11 in the morning. About 11:30 they got the first riffs. By noon they had written the whole song, arranged it, and practiced it. Then they left for lunch. When their manager got back he blew up that they weren't there and found then in the corner cafe. He started screaming and they told him they had it covered. They went back and played it for him once. They played it at a club date that night and recorded it the next day.
Woohoo... I remember this from my childhood in the 60s. All us kids bouncing around copying the moves of our teenage brothers, sisters, cousins, and their friends. One of the best Blue Eyed Soul records ever recorded 🔥🔥🔥
There was a lot more to the Spencer Davis group than just Steve Winwood. Spencer Davis Co wrote the song, and it was his band. I think he should get a little credit.
Sometimes, 18-year-old white kids from Birmingham, England somehow inherit the voices of 35-year-olds from deep in New Orleans. Not often, but I know it's happened at least once. Try their song "Keep On Running" now :)
Blue Eyed Soul. Do the Mr. Fantasy live version of Steve in the orange shirt. He also kills on the old guitar. Dude rocks. Saw him live in 2018. One of my lifelong dreams was fulfilled. Such a talent.
Jayy, another awesome reaction. Your emotional honesty and your ability to "feel" music is really refreshing. Thanks as always, for sharing. Check out "Black Coffee" by Humble Pie--the live version with the Blackberries. I think you will dig Steve Marriott!
Enjoyed watching your initial puzzlement, and the change in you as it moved along.Try an even earlier number [1960]from an album, for Me,to treasure,[TITLED,The two of US,cd has available for some time, can be entire CD can heard on youtube] which,as you said, cheered you up,same thing for ME here," BABY,YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES"by BROOK BENTON& DINAH WASHINGTON,which, any other duet, would stop, and start again,Benton has obviously taken Her lines,She actually pulls Him,and says, BABY YOURE IN MY SPOT AGAIN,closely listened to,and felt, apart from superb soulful singers, additional joy,is first, both are suppressing laughter, and WHEN did He first sing Her lines?
What makes it more amazing is that Steve winwood was only 16..with such a voice.. obviously she’s not really that interested..other wise she would done her research on the band.

Legend has it that they stoled this from the Jackson 5...it was overheard in a beauty shop while several women were having a discussion with hairdryers a blowin'...LOL. The start of a stellar career.
Hey Jayy, please react to Postmodern Jukebox cover of Prince's Purple Rain it is done in a blues style and is amazing the featured singer is Miche Braden. Thank you.
I just love how this song crept up on you! Blue eyed soul from England.
That Hammond thrown through the Leslie cabinets and then the iconic voice comes in

One of the best singles of 1967! Brings back fond childhood memories.
S.W said he thought every one had to sing like Ray Charles....That is a Hammond B3 organ as well. Wish I knew how to play one. Just Marvelous.
Good ole Spence! He was a good customer of mine back in the 90's when he lived in Easton, CT. Great guy and awesome musician and producer.

Great classic rock song famous in school dances. Did you ever react to ‘Still You Turn Me On’ by Greg Lake?
I see gogo dancers, dancing wild, in cages, wearing white gogo boots. But maybe that's just me... & my 1960s vision.
It's just too damn short!
