I'm newly retired and my 2002 Tundra is due for a timing belt replacement. I thought I might save myself some $$$ and do it myself. Your fantastic 3 part video just showed me that this is WAY more than I care to take on. Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this very helpful video. I am in the process of doing this job right now on my 2003 Tundra 4.7L V8. There are few significant differences between my truck and the 2002 model in the video I wanted to point out. If you have a 2003 Tundra, it may save you some headaches. I'm really surprised at the differences. First, the skid plate is different. No biggie. Easy to figure out. Secondly, the AC compressor is way different. You do not have to remove the compressor in my truck. That's a good thing because I cannot loosen one of the compressor mounting bolts because a high pressure line is in the way and it ain't going anywhere. I only had to remove that lower front bracket to gain access to one of the fan bracket assembly bolts. There are two bolts not mentioned in this video necessary to remove the fan bracket. One is above the compressor and you'll have to remove the bracket holding the compressor wiring plug for access. The other is below the front of the compressor accessible after removing the lower front compressor reinforcement bracket (the one with the nut and the bolt). I learned this only after much fussing and searching online. My Tundra factory service manual didn't even get close to mentioning this. And that's how I made my way through part one. Closed it up for now and I'll fire up the part 2 video in the morning.
Wanted to thank you for your video. I followed it to replace my timing belt and water pump on my 04 Tundra. It was a great tool. The hardest part of the job was getting the harmonic balancer bolt off and then torqued back on. Thanks again for your videos.
Thank you so much for your hard work on these videos. Every job I am confronted with or take on for family, I pray that you've documented it. Couldn't do it without you!
Great instructional video!! Just completed successfully my timing belt kit replacement on a 2000 Toyota Tundra. Two notes. 1.You don't need to remove the a/c compressor, just the support bracket underneath and the small bracket with the Philips screw so you can get to the two bolts that are bolted into the fan bracket assembly. 2. I split two 2x4 "special tool" down the middle so I switched to a Trex (composite decking wood) 2x4 I had left over from a project and that did the trick as far as getting that stubborn crankshaft bolt loose and re-torqued. Again, great video...gave me the confidence I could do this project myself. Thanks!!!

Used this video to do the timing belt replacement on my Tundra 10 years ago. Just used it again to do the second replacement. Will use it again in 10 more years.
These series of videos are awesome. Just got done with my 2004 Tundra SR5 and used the three parts to guide me every step. Don’t let the 45 min series fool you - this job takes a long time. Fantastic video and guidance. Thank you
Thank you so much for the 3 videos on the timing belt and water pump replacement! I was able to complete this project at home this weekend following the instructions step by step. Everything is running great!
If you don't have much experience with something like this, we normally don't recommend doing it on your own. The video is very helpful in getting the job done but doing one step wrong could result in serious damage to your engine.
And Know that I've tried everything I can't take it to a mechanic because they see that I already have been working on it.do u have any advice or something I'm doing wrong on why it won't start
Thank you so much. I replaced my fan pulley assembly by watching this video. Perfect step by step, no left over nut or bolts. Took all day but the labor was free and the gratification awesome.
Thank you for the detailed series of videos addressing the replacement of the timing belt and the water pump. I followed them explicitly and the result was amazing. I would not hesitate to do this job again with the help of your excellent videos. Saved me many $$$. Definitely purchased all of my replacement parts from 1A Auto. Thanks again.
+William Berg Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
I have been working on cars for decades and still found these 3 videos amazing. Detailed, accurate and easy to follow. Other than the tensioner (put an edit on it?) these directions are flawless.
Thanks for this! I bought your gates kit and following the instructions successfully completed a timing belt / water pump installation with little previous automotive experience. It might be helpful to add 'gasket sealant' to the required materials list, as well as providing dimensions or noting when you have the harmonic balancer off to make the installation tool (2x4). The AC compressor was the hardest part (on and off), but it's obvious why it was difficult to film! Thanks again!
I too wanted to Thank You for saving me over $700, your video made this easy. I used it to replace the timing belt & water pump on a 02 Sequoia 4.7. Like most people that go to do things like this you pay attention taking it apart but something does not fit right or even though you lay it out just so something gets moved or well you just can't figure out how this part goes on, so I went back to the video and there is the answer. The locale dealer wanted over $1000 to do the job, my parts cost under $300. The wife is very happy & even though the vehicle has over 250K mile on it, she has NO plans to get rid of it. She LOVES this vehicle.
+steve tichenor Thanks for watching. We carry the parts shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them if any of our viewers needs to make this repair. www.1aauto.com/1A/TimingBelts/Toyota/Tundra/GAEEK00022?TH-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video, it was such a big help. My husband and I did our water pump and timing belt by ourselves. Our 02 Sequoia had almost 200,000 miles on it and never did change the timing belt. We thought it was our water pump that was making a grinding noise but come to find out is was the fan bracket so we had to change that and a couple other pulleys now it runs good. Thank you once again!
Thanks for providing such a detailed video on how to properly change the timing belt on the 4.7L tundra truck... I just completed mine and your video on ensuring proper timing belt alignment between the cam sprockets and the camshaft was really helpful since I managed to change the timing on my truck when I used the cam sprocket bolts to turn over the engine.. this resulted in timing belt misalignment.. However, your video which showed how to properly match the timing marks fixed all that.
Your videos saved me! On reassembly, I had an extra bolt with nut and wasn't sure where it went. Your excellent step by step instructions plainly illustrated it was one of the tensioner assembly bolts.I had mistakenly installed it in center timing belt cover. Now I can finish up my '09 4Runner 4.7. You ROCK! The only thing worrying me now is that the new belt marks line up on L:eft Cam with the "T", Right Cam with the "T" , and the dot on the crank. When I line the dot up on the crank with the "CR" on the belt, the top white line of the pulley doesn't perfectly line up with the "|" mark on the crank cover. Oh well, hoping belt marks outweigh the cover mark. If it is off, it's only by one tooth. LOL!
What did this look like? Was the marking on the belt positioned to the left, or to the right of the line on the crank cover? Did everything work out? Or did you need to do the job twice?
Normally most vehicles have a transmission line going from the transmission to one of the plastic caps on the side of the radiator. Some trucks on the other hand come with a transmission cooler in front of the radiator. It is normally small, only about the size of a not pad and about as thick as on radiator core.
Thanks for the great video..been putting this job off because the factory service manual isn't very clear, especially on the timing procedure., My Land cruiser is on its second belt but just hit 220K so it due again...
Thought I already typed this but not here? My truck is a 2001 Tundra with low milage about 40,000 miles but 12 years old. Do I need to replace my timing belt yet? Is this a job a DIYer can perform if I have moderate mechanical ability?
Go on Toyota's official website and you can register your vehicle. Once you do you can see the service history provided it's been entered by the owner or repair shop. Not concrete info, but you may get lucky.
I'm having trouble getting the fan assembly off (What you're doing at 6:44 in the video). I've shook and wiggled it as hard as I could and it wouldn't budge. I then attempted to chisel in between the area where it mounts and that didn't help either. Any ideas? I'm wondering if loosening the tension in the drive belt first would make any difference?
+letsgosteelers68 It may be a different procedure on your application. We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com
I'm mechanically inclined but never done major engine work. Can't afford the $1500+ it is going to cost for timing belt for a while (been out of work), is this something I can do with help? This behemoth is going to require me to work on a step ladder! I've done a coolant flush, which is the first step, and fan belts, but never more in depth than that. I'm not scared though... just short on cash for a while and already at 130k miles.
I have a 2000 Tundra 5.7 V-8 with 212,000 that I just purchased used from a car lot. is there any way to inspect the belt accurately without total disassembly? Someone could have put one on 10K ago or it may have the stock one on... No way I can know?

What did this look like? Was the marking on the belt positioned to the left, or to the right of the line on the crank cover?

It really depends on the shops in your area. You may want to shop around between a few for pricing.

I just bought one used with 124k miles, is there any way to know if this was done? Can you some how peek in on the belt
