    It amazes me how anyone can dislike any of your videos. They are all gold. 100% accurate, incredibly useful and FREE. Most of these techniques take YEARS to learn if at all and yet by watching Kitesurf college videos, kitesurfers can learn advanced moves that will help them have more FUN more SAFELY in MINUTES. Well done guys. Bravo.

    This look nice and fine... when we are on the shore, or close to shore (small water).
    The problem is that most of the Water Relunch is happening when we are NOT on or close to shore, it happens when we are in deeper water, where we can't touch the ground and don't have the ability to prop our feet on, we are pulled through the water along with the kite and if we lost the board prior to the fall,... we are in a different scenario all together.
    This "Advanced Relunch" should be made to mirror the real life situations, not the - perfect world, perfect conditions, because in perfect conditions most riders even less experienced can do "something about it".
    So please do a Real Life Relunch (this "Reverse Relunch" - should be shown in deep water real conditions), at that point we can see something that give us more understanding and applicability in real life conditions and situations.

    Thanks for the video - one remark, however: Re. bowties, your overview says "Use quick release if - kite steering itself; - unsure what's happening". In case of a death loop, this can be a really bad advise, that is when a steering line is tangled (1) around your bar or (2) inside your harness hook. Like this, either (1) the kite will not flag out but keep on looping, however the bar being away from you and the saftey line under tension, or (2) the the QR is not working properly and/or you get the bar away from you as well. The solution in a death loop situation (for the benefit of those reading it and not knowing what to do) is to pull the turning steering line (i.e. the line that makes the kite loop) with everything you have, in order to "smother" the kite (this will happen by itself eventually, as the loops will tighten the kite up - however that might take more time that you have).

    Never ceases to amaze these tutorials doing everything on a land or shallow waters. Good luck pulling hard on lines in deep water. You just make it more dangerous with these vids without a proper disclaimer. One can tire themself trying to "pull hard" on central lines eg. in an inverted kite situation while they could save energy for swimming. Or even worse get caught and tangled in lines with a lot of slack they will for sure get in deep water. There is simply not enough pull for these type of actions in deep water. Fellow kiter be warned! Some of these tips are very dangerous in deep water!

      Kite-Surf-College Tutorials and Tricks By the way. How do you animate the kite, the bar and it's lines in your videos? It looks pretty good.

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this video it was using PNG images. If you make a .PNG image in photoshop you can give it a transparent background. Then simply open it in your video composer (Premiere, Vegas whatever) and drop it on top of the video footage. You can then change the position and rotation of the PNG image if you need, like I do with the bar movement in some videos. More complex stuff like the 3D overlays in the upwind video, or the model of the kite depowering in the depower video, then you have to get use after effects, which is a more heavy duty special effects program.

      When the line changing, yes, I keyframe the pen tool in AE, like in this video at 1m20s th-cam.com/video/PsmYq4_qtuU/w-d-xo.html I don't know an easier way, like a clever plug-in that can be used.

  • @clemo311
    @clemo311 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    great vid. but one problem: a lot of this only works efficient if you can stand, so in shallow water. in deep water it's hardly working, cause the kite pulls you downwind and you cant resist the drag. so you often have to use your board for getting more resistance. And till now unfortunately I never managed to turn around an inverted kite in deep water by pulling the center lines...

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Clemens, yes it's more difficult in deep water, but not impossible. Of course, if it's going badly, or if people don't feel confident, then they can always self rescue instead.

    • @gas_rc7238
      @gas_rc7238 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True!
      But you can control the kite as usual with such tangled lines, so you can return to the shore, land as usual and untangle them in safety. (search for "inverted kite lines" videos)
      Or do it in the water, but it is dangerous, cause you need to be unhoked for that and remove your safaty leash. so there is always a chance to make mistake and kite can fly away from you=))

    Great info but....you are standing on the beach or in shallow water. Please try to explain what body position is best in the water after your kite has crashed, you are being pulled by the power of the wind and are compleatly out of gas? Do you lay on your belly while trying to do this or try to get into a sitting position?

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bill. In strong wind it won't matter much. In light wind, you must to try to hold your ground. So legs towards the kite. Then swim upwind and away from the kite using both legs and 1 arm, at the same time do your relaunch with the other arm. Not easy. Laying on your belly wouldn't help, as you will drift towards the kite, decreasing the speed of the wind on the kite. If the wind is very light (6 to 12 knots), then you can be in situation where a dry kite will fly if you keep it moving, but a wet kite will not fly. In such conditions, the only solution is to not crash the kite, which takes a lot of experience.

  • @foadysfah

    Today my kite fell on the water due to
    Light wind and I could not relaunch it. I was getting dragged downwind and kinda away from the beach so I released and preformed a self rescue, since trying to swim toward the beach was not helping. As a beginner, what do you think is the best way to handle such situations? Try to relaunch or just self rescue to the beach? Thanks for this video, if I knew some of these I may have been able to get the kite back in the air!

  • @RalphMelis
    @RalphMelis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The one situation I am missing is where the kite "flips" and the steering lines and center lines get 1 twist. I've tried figuring out myself to somehow turn the bar around to try and get it untwisted, but have not found a fool proof way yet.
    Do you have a suggesting for this?

    Your tutorials are really the best ! Just one question regarding the re-inversion towards the end of video: at around 10:11 it looks like the left steering line is still tangled .... how to get rid of that one, too?

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thankyou and good question. After fixing an invert you often have one steering line that crosses the center lines. If the kite's not flying correctly, then you must flag out asap. If the kite is flying as normal, then you can head back to the beach, land the kite, disconnect the lines and re-do the lines. This is what I would recommend. You can get someone to hold the kite, then you detach the chicken loop and leash, then fix the inverted line from the bar end by pushing one side of the bar, through the gap between the ceter lines and opposite steering line. Fixing this from the bar side is a bit riskier so takes some experience (as you can easily make things worse). Interestingly, you can even fix this from the bar side with the kite sitting on the water, but it's very easy to steer by mistake, or collapse the kite. I've even seen a couple of people unhook, and untangle their steering line with the kite still flying. This is, of course, very risky. Maybe I can make a video about this at some point, it's a little tricky to explain in a written format.

    Hi. I have an old kite (2013) in very good status as I use it quite rarely (Best Kahoona 7.5m2) 15% of the sessions, only when wind picks up to 30kts. But sometimes in big gust it reacts strangely and makes an inverted shape. As it is a 4 struts kite it doesn’t have one in the middle, and stays in this stable but wrong position whatever I can do . I tried to put as much pressure that I can but it happened again in very gusty situation ( and my kite was inverted with both wing tips closed together as a shell in inverted position) and it was impossible to move it back in normal position even after self rescue without removing air from leading edge, which is quite tricky in deep water. In addition it was also rather impossible to use the kite as a sail to come back to the beach due to the close shell configuration. So a long swim back...
    Do you think there is any clue to avoid this behavior or recover when it is like that???🥺

    Is there big differences between kites and reverse launch? So far in light winds i can reverse launch my bandits but reedin supermodel v2, seems to dive when trying to launch. Main consern is that is it because kite design or maybe change kite pressure/bridle settings? Would be super if you have an correct answer❤️

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joni, good question. There is definitely a big difference between kites when it comes to reverse launching. Some reverse launch easily, without much steering line tension. Other feel stuck to the water with the leading edge down, or require more of the steering lines to be pulled in, and may even require a few strong pulls on both steering line just to get the kite off the water. Almost every aspect of kite design will play a part in this, aspect ratio, LE diameter, bridle design etc. But, I would add that I've never found a kite that won't reverse launch if there's enough wind. With some experimenting and varying how much to pull in the steering lines, you should find the point a kite flies backwards.
