If it's Penn & Teller pulling up in a cab asking me to help a charity? I'd do what I could but I SO would NOT have known the answer to that question. Sorry guys.
I like that little note at the end "At no time are contestants aware they are about to enter the cash cab or engage in a game show experience." Penn and Teller definitely knew.
Fun fact. They used the phrase “Noble Gasses” on stage in one of their routines after this episode of cash cab. We can be pretty sure it was inspired by this question that they couldn’t quickly answer. After all, they don’t like being fooled.
Penn and Teller seem very down to earth, very personable. Was awesome that even though they lost, they made a donation for the same amount of money that they had racked up.
Teller has been performing silent for almost 60 years, since he was in college, so he's had a lot of practice. He's only silent when performing. He talks normally off stage. He does sometimes speak on stage, actually, but not as himself, or at least not in his normal voice. For example, I saw Penn & Teller perform live a long, long time ago and they had a mechanical gorilla character as part of their act, with Teller providing the voice. He stood there "pretending" not to talk, but it was obviously him and the fake pretense was done for comedic effect. More recently, there was a trick they did on Fool Us that involved helium balloons, with Teller at one point talking with a helium-altered voice. There are actually several examples on Fool Us, but I don't remember the details of all of them. I think performing silent would be easier for the most part because you never have to worry about forgetting your lines.
@@jwolfe01234 Yeah when I saw them years ago they waited outside to say hello to everyone on the way out and I told Teller I really enjoyed the show and he thanked me, I nearly had a heart attack.

The fact that Penn didn't get Noble gases. He's extremely into science, and the question was literally teeing him up for the answer. Penn didn't listen to the question properly, thought he knew the answer, and lost. Yes they are inert. But that's not the name most people give to them.
Penn's answer was not incorrect. Both helium and argon are inert gases. The host should have said be more specific because both helium and argon are also noble gases.
@ I am hip dude but inert gas is not incorrect. The host should have said be more specific. In welding they refer to them as inert gases. For TIG welding they originally used Helium until they realized Argon works just as well and it is also less expensive that Helium.
No one talking about it, but they got the last question wrong. The lady said "Humbro" which Penn repeated as "Humbro" and Ben said "Umbro is right!" (which it is Umbro) and I'm 99% sure that Ben knew they had said "Humbro" and slyly ignored it while yelling "Umbro is right!"
It depends on who you ask Technically speaking, yes, Scandinavia only consists of a Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, but a lot of people, including some Scandinavians, also include Finland and Iceland as well, for historical reasons
There is an old videoblog in TH-cam where Penn discusses this episode. He says that he contested the answer, they stopped filming, and as American-Scandinavian Foundation lists Finland as Scandinavian, they argued that their question is correct.
holy shit I'd love to find the Cash Cab in Vegas. I used to know the cab numbers just in case, even though I've only been to NYC a couple times. I definitely wish Ben and the cab would come back on the air.

Just checked and this show came out well after google and Wikipedia became things, there's no excuse for the producers writing the questions to not know what Scandinavia is lol. Like how did they even look up the population of Finland without learning what the word Scandanavia means?
Unfortunately their answer is technically correct.. They are the Inert gases or what you were looking for Noble gases. So they should have been given credit. I am their resident science advisor by the way.
1 Geography: Finland isn't part of Scandinavian peninsula. 2 Language: The countries of Sweden, Denmark and Norway are traditionally Scandinavian, i.e. they speak North Germanic (Scandinavian) languages. It doesn't necessarily mean no ace either. It just means the ace can no longer count as both 11/1. So an A5 is a soft 16, but if you hit again and get a jack it's A5J the ace counts as 1 to prevent busting so it becomes a hard 16.

Scandinavia has no borders and its region is subjective. So yes, it can include Finland.
