The treatment was tested first on a mouse named Algernon, who shows intelligence far exceeding a normal white mouse and who eventually comes into Charlie's care. The story is told through the lens of Charlie's diary entries. The treatment works. As the story progresses, Charlie's spelling, grammar, and vocabulary improve, he gains social awareness and realises the "friends" he laughs with at the bakery where he works are laughing at him instead of with him, and so on. But the process continues unabated. Soon enough his IQ grows and blows past those of most of the people around him, leading to a sense of alienation and pride. And just as Charlie is at his brightest, proudest, and also most lost, everything starts to unravel. Algernon the mouse shows a sudden, unexpected, and precipitous decline in mental acuity, shocking the scientists involved, and eventually he reaches a poorer state than he started. Charlie's own mental soon starts to devolve as well, and with it once again the quality of his writing and narration decline. Finally, Algernon dies, and Charlie's last diary entry, and the last chapter of the book, ends with the line: "P.S. please if you get a chanse put some flowers on Algernons grave in the bak yard."

There's a difference between twin blades (which essentially operate as two-handed weapons that have a focus on speed instead of strength) and a dual skill that let's you weild two primary weapons with different stats
There is, but I highly doubt the original SAO thought about that. More likely is they just forgot how the story was supposed to go and messed up some detail nobody would notice
@@TheMedleyMotley Likely the animation team just got an order for "attacked by various people with different weapons" and just added it in there. Nobody noticed(or they were to crunched for time to restart) so it made it to the final product.
It's like the difference between weilding a weapon that are dual knives and weilding a greatsword with a mace. Mechanically, the twin blades are just 1 weapon with fun visuals in how attacks happen, possibly also having increase attack rate over weaker strength than the larger 1-2-handed weapons. What kirito is doing here is weilding two primaries, separate weapons with completely different stats and skills. The two axes used by the other guys looked like twin hatchets, not individual weapons
My personal headcanon is that duel wielding is supposed to be a typical high level skill But it’s bugged to not show up and can only be un-bugged by performing some incredibly specific and weird button combo in a specific room which Kirito happened to do by pure chance

15:48 Kirito explaining that he picked up Dual Wield from a guy that dual wields axes is the most logical thing I have ever heard from this ability of his. If it's not available for a Swordsman, it probably is for a Berserker
I never even noticed that when I watched the original all those years ago. And with the ending being that he got the skill for having the fasted reaction time did he just kill the first guy with the fastest reaction time ahead of him to get it?
@@angrykid616 I heard a theory that the dual wielding Titan Hand member wasn't using the "Dual Wield" skill, per se, but rather a weapon set. The two axes are a single weapon that is equipped as one, but operate as two weapons. You see that in some MMOs these days, one that comes to mind is Warframe. While you can't equip two separate swords to each individual hand, there are certain weapons that are considered "Dual Wield" weapons. Their stats aren't any higher or different, in fact I'm fairly certain that they are the exact same. Its just the animations that are different. In comparison, Kirito is wielding two completely different weapons. Any other player would either be able to equip the Elucidator or the Dark Repulsor, not both of them at the same time. Players likely have one "Equipped Weapon" slots in their inventory. Upon completing character creation, they unlock one, which is tied to whatever their dominant hand is. They can find Dual Weapon Sets like the axes that the Titan's Hand member wields, but they don't really get any bonuses to their stats or attack power. Its essentially just a fighting style, like choosing to use an axe, lance or mace over a sword. The player with the fastest reflexes, in this case being Kirito, unlocks the second "Equipped Weapon" slot in their inventory, opening up the ability to equip a completely separate weapon as well as new Sword Skills that would normally not be available with only a single weapon.

15:53 I love how he mentions how he fought a guy who duel-wields axes. Just shows how shitty the original actually was and how good this version is for turning it into a subtle joke.

@@TheMedleyMotleytbf i never noticed too, i even tried going back to find it and struggled seeing it
I really like how they addressed the fact there was another dual-wielder he fought earlier and made it fit into the story.
Not really the dual blades skill
It's like the difference between weilding a weapon that are dual knives and weilding a greatsword with a mace. Mechanically, the twin blades are just 1 weapon with fun visuals in how attacks happen, possibly also having increase attack rate over weaker strength than the larger 1-2-handed weapons. What kirito is doing here is weilding two primaries, separate weapons with completely different stats and skills. The two axes used by the other guys looked like twin hatchets, not individual weapons
The thing is tho, that potentially means that you can take someone's abilities by killing them, which would make the best players INSANELY unbalanced.
@@KarmasAB123 If I remember correctly, Kirito never killed all the gang. Just Rosalia. But yeah, it would be very unbalanced.

Duel wielding 2 handed broad swords is what makes Kirito's skill unique
@@johnychrist5475 they were one handed longswords. That's what Liz classified The Piece of Shit... Dragon Shit That Is TM Lizbeth

Spanish Communists?
@Eric Smallwood No, the CNT. Look up the Spanish Civil War. There have been more communist revolutions than just the Russian one, and there are more types of communists than just Marxist-Leninists.
Corvax in this video is pretty clearly based on Spanish revolutionaries of the CNT, who were very much communists, but also very much NOT Soviets.
Unlike the Soviets, the CNT was much more decentralized and anti-authoritarian. For example, their military was entirely democratic - soldiers elected their commanding officers and could repeal that authority if the officer ever tried to abuse their power.
He kinda joked, in case you didn't get it
That is fair tho
I love how perfect asuna and kirito are for each other. Not because they're all lovey dovey and shit, but because neither can stand it when the other speaks and they're both constantly under threat of being stabbed
Asuna: “So you gonna put your sword away or what”
Kirito: “Shit You can see that”

+XYZDimensions Because I thought I wouldn't see the same crap that drove me away from the original series, which was the romance between Kirito and Asuna. It's just to annoying and awful in my opinion. Now the Kirito from the series is slowly turning like the one from the original.

Kirito: "Oh shit you can see that?"

Somehow Parody Kirito is actually more likeable than normal kirito
And he is an asshole in this. Shows how weak his character was in the original

definitely.
That's a low bar to clear... But he's still a damn good character. In Abridged I mean.

Telling him someone's life or death isn't his fault, causes him to relapse like with Liz or the loli bait. other than when he was high talking with Asuna on the hill, I think he's he's had an episode whenever someones mentioned fault.
Btw what was the blurry thing they showed at the end of the Sachi flashback?

@@cloudripper4096 Flowers for Algernon is a sad story, a really good story, but sad. The common theme is experiencing something that's so good it ruins your perspective on lesser things.
@GarrettTheFerret didn't read it in school myself. But when i did i was bliwn away.
Dude I read this in school and burst out laughing at that reaction
So how does a story about a mouse relate to not being able to taste food?
Asuna: I maxed out cooking
Kirito: *And feminism marches on*
SAO female characters, all female...no character.
I know it is a joke, I just want to say that feminism is about choice. I wish that there were male chefs in anime more often, but we have proof that Asuna is a great cook AND a badass
@@patrickblake123 Too bad that as soon as she becomes the n°1 of the harem her character goes out of the window.
Let's be clear, I despise SAO. I think that our Kawahara at the time was a moron that can barely write a plot and CLEARLY couldn't make it while also thinking about the characters as people and not a bunch of tropes in human form and without digging huge plot holes.
I despise his novels so much because they had potential. And Asuna is to me the symbol of it. She was a nice character, not just a random love interest of "strong female character", she had her motivations and her agency but still actes as a realistic person. But nope, he had to fucking turn her into nothing.
This abridged series really does a great job at elevating the series. The characters feel a lot more like actual people rather than how the characters were portrayed in the show. I also love how it isn't afraid to point out the things that don't make any sense (like Kirito being the only one able to dual wield swords) and makes jokes about it.
