Opira sings in Acholi-language and plays on a traditional Ugandan instrument called 'Adungu'. He made this acoustic instrument into an electrical one. With some built-in pickups (out of an old radio) powered by batteries and two Sony HiFi speakers, he is good to go!
Opira Morise Kato: "This song is about my family. In the past there were a lot of people in this home; my father, his brothers, their wives and the children. God gave my grandfather and grandmother many children, but they don't stay in this home anymore. Nowadays all the elders have passed away and only the children are left. The ones who are left have to make the best of this home. According to our culture, they need to have a traditional wedding, they need to look for cows, goats, money and other small things."
    Production: Evert Daniel Aalten
    Camera: Karin van Bemmel

This music is mind blowing. It has allowed me to travel with the artiste into the that beautiful peaceful world across the village forests and open fields. His vocals paint a sentimental picture of village life when loved watching the cows come home from the grazing fields at sunset

Beautiful voice control and the sweetest delivery even the non-luo speakers can get the message. Wouldn't it be nice to play him with Geoffrey Oryema

I bumped into Scandal Studios' recordings of this guy sometime in March this year (2015). I didn't bother to keep this Opira Morise Kato's name but his soothing music kept on ringing in my head. I tried hard to remember his name but nothing came. I didn't even remember which country he was from. I searched hard on youtube and something close came up. Acholi. and I searched Acholi man plays Adungu. Waal, there Scandal Studios recordings displayed. BUT with a very sad massage - Opira Morise Kato passed on in April 2015. Thats sad news.

Samora Kuda Nyaru. I just bumped on these legend but I think he deserves more. Since he is no more, his kids and wife deserves to be helped by the recording studio… look at all the likes and views… the studio is getting a lot of cash from his works… can the studio personnel help the kids and the wife out… this is a legend to be remembered.

Shame on me🙊 I had never searched enough to find this gem. Only known that he is R.I.P ! Is there any foundation established to immortalize his efforts. I would love to make a modest contribution

Thanks for preserving Opira's music, Scandal Studios. It would be a scandal not to do so. I wish you could visit all the Luo communities in East Africa, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Ethiopia doing recordings of such exceptional Luo talents. You would then collect their best hits and create an album out of it to be circulated across the scattered Luo communities. :)

@@scandalstudios I greet you. I really don’t understand the whole language but I think this guy was a legend. I here he passed on. Can your group or studio please take his kids to school and have his wife a better living environment… I say so because your studio is earning a lot from these views of his songs. Please may God be in your heart and help out.
I’m writing from New York. I enjoy his creativity and teachings

So so sad. I live in Uganda and I'm his kinsman yet I did not know he existed let alone this amazing talent. I bet I was in school those years and access to such content was difficult. May He rest in peace. Scandal Studio, I request your permission to use this sound a poem...with attribution and all credit to you.
