That's probably the best explanation of SIBO I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot!! It makes a lot of sense now. Thank you!

    Very good.

I would still argue that IBS/SIBO patients with diarrhea have fast gut motility, so I can't be a gut motility issue for them. So it's still a bacteria are fermenting food in the wrong place issue. Somewhere in the middle where the air/gas gets trapped. The solution would still be killing the bacteria there, which is difficult I guess, because how do you kill bacteria in one place but not in another.

Can 2 years of binge eating and bulimia fuck up my motility and that is why i have sibo? (and i do, i did the test)

That is highly likely, yes. We actually just interviewed an RD on the IBS Freedom Podcast and talked all about binge eating and restricted dieting as it pertains to gut health! Def make sure you check it out :)

Thank you for all the valuable information you provide! How do you rebalance dysbiosis?

Some combination of feeding and/or replacing the "good" and inhibiting the "bad." That will look different from person to person, of course!

I had candida, did antimicrobials. After stool test candida is sorted but i have no mucus or akkermansia or much of a microbiome at all. My diet has been really good for four months but the bloat is just driving me insane. Im at the repopulation phase now and its so slow!

What is your view on treating SIBO with physicians elemental diet?

Honestly, pretty poor. I think ED is very extreme and almost always unecissary. I've seen a lot of people who reported feeling terrible doing ED (lightheaded, woozy, one lady even passed out on a walk around her block!)

Would there be any downside to taking a digestive enzyme supplement AND an Hcl supplement at the same time? Cool shirt btw

Nope. Did it for years after PPIs side effects. Now I’m better and I’m off super enzymes and Betaine HCL.

So...what would it mean if taking a complete digestive enzyme causes additional bloating when taken to help digest fiber/carbs? (I’m trying to reintroduce healthy fiber/carbs after having eaten keto/carnivore for the past few years?)

Normal digestive enzymes might be a bit much for your system to handle right now. Perhaps you'll do better with a brush border enzyme product like SIBB-Zymes by Klaire.

I want you to cover ADF (alternate day fasting) and similar diets. They are purported to selectively reduce harmful bacteria because pathogenic bacteria are faster growing. My personal experience doesn't contradict this as I had my longest remission doing the 5:2 diet. Could I save myself and my children some trouble by just alternating days where our diet includes the shorter chain MACs (microbiota-accessible carbohydrates) like inulin but feeding us longer chain MACs like fiber and most food ad libitum? It's one thing to ask an adult to go most of the day without food, but that won't work for growing children with IBS.

She covers fasting minimally (but powerfully) in the intro to this series.
