    Smarks don't get it but this is why WWE is the most successful promotion. You can put on a great technical match but without the characters and the story, the crowd won't care. Big characters sell tickets.

      WWE is the most successful promotion because of the shady business practices that put the other territories out of business and then prevented anyone else from flourishing from scratch until a billionaires kid turned up. If their superstars were such a draw the ratings wouldn't have been in decline for two decades.

    • @blitzy7961
      @blitzy7961 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Gotta disagree. Your point stands but not for WWE. It works for every promotion that is able to to work a good story. AEW didnt just become big due to good writing and stories. WWE allowed AEW to get a fanbase because it was lacking when it came to good writing and AEW wasnt. But that's not why AEW became successful
      The reason why WWE has been the most successful is because WCW screwed itself 20+ years ago and no one has had the money nor the marketing to reach WWE's level. WWE's writing has reached some extremely bad levels over the past 15 years. AEW was a breath of fresh air when it first started due to how good their writing was over WWE, but the only reason they were able to even compete was because of the money the Khan's brought in.

    This is what some people (even the wrestlers) still doesn't get or rebel against. "Hey I'm a professional wrestler. I'm damn good at my job". It actually applies to every showbiz aspect. You can be a good actor/actress. You can be a great musician/singer. But are you good enough to sell major tickets? Are you good enough to be a CELEBRITY?
    What Triple H tryna say is not necessarily rebel against the sports. Being a WWE superstar is not necessarily not being a professional wrestler. It is. But being a professional wrestler comes to being a superstar too. Selling tickets like Cena, Reigns, Hogan and etc. Being good at something? I give credits where credits do. But if you're content on being just a professional wrestler, then just stay out of WWE or don't even mention WWE out of your mouth. And if my explanation isn't clear enough, I give an example on a rising SUPERSTAR who's making wonders and getting recognition for his work. In ring, probably decent to most fans who prefers the over choreographed flips and dives. But to me is more than enough as his character is what drives me to tune in into that "Professional Wrestling" company. And I'm talking about MJF. He fits perfectly in WWE. And he isn't only a professional wrestler. He's a professional wrestler x SUPERSTAR.

    • @tipicofutbal
      @tipicofutbal ปีที่แล้ว +13

      And last thing that I wanna add. Say whatever you want about the old man. But if Vince Mcmahon Jr is content with just being another territorial promotion which is fixed strictly towards only professional wrestling, WWE won't even achieve a high level of success into a global phenomenon like what it is today. Hell... We won't even get our precious Attitude Era. Sure he made so many unforgivable actions. Sure he gets our intelligence insulted. But he singlehandedly changed the landscape of professional wrestling/sports entertainment forever. The other companies who rebels against WWE wouldn't admit that Vince Mcmahon himself is what drives them into investing onto creating their own professional wrestling company. And it's funny how everytime they tryna prove that it can be better than WWE, it's only the beginning of their downfall.

    You don’t have to be a massive body builder to have the selling point, it helps big time but look at guys like CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Guerrero, Seth Rollins, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, etc, they are not massive people but everyone loves/loved them because their character resonated with them, and big guys like Undertaker, Brock Lesner, Roman Reigns, Hulk Hogan, even Stone Cold and The Rock. The fans loved them. You need to have character and personality that attracts the fans

    Wrestlers are the most talented physically that they’ve ever been. But the storytelling and ring psychology 20+ years ago was on another level. Most Raw’s only had like 30-40mins of actual wrestling but it was the most amazing wrestling you’ll ever see because they made it always mean so much more. Every match felt high stakes, even on the lower card.

    They need superstars though
    And a bit of flair in the costume and gimmick department
    For a while the roster looked like a copy and paste lineup with the likes of Roman , Seth , McIntyre and Adam Cole
    To name a few

    A lot of these indy wrestlers and people who worked in smaller promotions shouldn't even get looked at.
    Since a lot of them are obnoxious, have delusions of grandeur, and are incapable of being taught how to fix their bad habits.
    Examples being Adam Cole, Keith Lee, Andrade, etc.

    The thing I've been seeing in WWE is that many of their Superstars have family relationships, connections that paved them the way or made it somewhat easier for them to get hired by WWE. The Rock's(Samoans) family tie, Ric's family tie, Rey's family tie, Rowdy's(Ronda) family tie, Rhodes family tie, ect. Family tie as in Family Connection.

    Paul's not wrong. If you watch every interview he is in whether it's on ESPN or the today show, you name it, even radio shows, interviewers will tell him their favorite wrestler was a *star* from a certain Era of WWE. And it's immediately because of the Star power. Having that it factor. Someone who was definitely a star love him or hate him was Enzo Amore with no doubt. Anybody can be a decent wrestler like Big Cass with the right tools and training and what not but you can't teach *charisma*

      Well credibility does play a role. If you have a casual watcher (the majority of people) watching a 5ft 8 in and 170 lbs guy defeat Brock Lesnar. Is that credible to attract that fan? (The hardcore fan base or iwc is too small of a base)

    Everybody that the WWE let go and they been in a company for years learning especially the newer wrestlers they tell them to go make a name for themselves so they can make money off of them when they came back Jim Ross in a couple of people that used to work with WWE said they literally sat there and heard Vince McMahon explain to them why he let them go so they could go and make an amen Indies and come back and make him a lot more money off their namesake that's why I took AJ styles basically over 20 years before the WWE even gave him a call up because he was an entire big companies same with Samoan Joe they not going to have you in the back not making money for them and going off of you being a fan favorite for the WWE 🎯🎯🎯🎯

  • @MrCantfindanynames
    @MrCantfindanynames ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the business needs a mixture of both. I don't think fans will consider AJ Styles a great "character" guy. But can aaaaanybody do what AJ does in the ring. Same with a Claudio/Cesaro, Bret Hart... They are charismatic but great character work I can't say that. But you also need your Undertakers and Kanes and Stone Colds and Rocks who are serviceable in the ring but their strengths were character work. They were captivating as heck. What's even better is if you get both in one wrestler like a Seth Rollins. All that just to say... I don't think it would be wise to have a company heavily relying in one or the other

    And this is why the viewership is (and has been for a while) in the toilet. Cookie cutter wrestlers whose promos are scripted to the last full stop. Theres a reason why the very average Roman Reigns has headlined the last 700 Wrestlemanias and it aint that hes a generational talent.
