  • This video is mainly for John @123liftoff, who wanted to see more of the old and new bridges. Then a cruise over Rollins Reservoir and back to the bridges. Hope you enjoy the cinematic video and music.

Thanks Jamie! I was on cruise control going across the lake. Could you tell? That's right, the Mini 4 Pro has cruise control. You move the sticks where you want them and hit a button on the bottom of the controller and let go of the sticks. It will keep flying in that direction until you hit the button again, or move the right stick to turn off cruise control. You can still control the gimbal and yaw, but it will keep flying straight as an arrow at the constant speed. I have trouble keeping the right stick centered, and it drifts to the side, as it did on the bridge, so that cruise control helps a bunch.

Thank you so very much!! Great video. You are so blessed to have so much beauty to fly. I also fly a mini pro 4 but get so jealous of other people’s surroundings.
Looks like the spillway on the dam may be flowing soon.

You're very welcome, John! I am located in the Sierra Foothills of northern California. Where are you located? Happy flying!

I am so jealous that you have so much scenery and open skies to work with! Gorgeous video, though I do wish you'd get more storage so you can shoot in 4k. My area is saturated with air and city restrictions and I've yet to find a nearby open field where I can fly legally. I recently went to a spot outside Castro Valley near a reservoir where the space wasn't within the East Bay Parks system where drones are prohibited only to be chased out by EBMUD who owned the forested land next to the reservoir.

Well, come on up to Nevada City and you can fly over our beautiful scenery. My wife & I grew up in southern California, and we came up here to see her dad & step-mom on our first Christmas in 1966. We fell in love with the area, and I was fortunate enough to get a transfer with the phone company to Yuba City in 1972, then to Auburn, and finally to Grass Valley. I retired here in 2006 and enjoying my retirement years here in God's country.

I’m located in Gilbert, Arizona which is a suburb of Phoenix. I have a few videos on my you tube channel but really don’t post much. I love following your channel.

4:43 i thought you would go straight and keep flying low to explore the street 😅

I thought about it, but John @123liftoff asked me to show more of the old & new bridge, so I turned around and went back over the bridge. 😅

Great flying and videos. What was your max distance? I kept thinking you would rapidly start to lose signal due to the dam and foliage while flying over the lake. Did you try any color correction in editing to deal with the huge light contrasts?

Thanks Mike! Max distance was 6113 ft when I lost video just as I reached the peninsula, then it did an RTH. I was going to do a little color correction, but I forgot to do that before saving and uploading to TH-cam. I also forgot to set the white balance on manual, as the color of the sky kept changing, and I forgot to change the resolution to 4K. I also forgot to set the max altitude higher than 393 ft, as the dam was almost 200 ft higher than the bridge. I don't like the way the altitude turns red, as I can't read it on the screen in the bright sunlight. Not enough contrast. So many things to remember, and I was tired. But I do love that cruise control.

@@gama45 Gary, thanks for your detailed response. It sounds like you experience many of the same issues I have on my flights where I attempt to capture "cinematic" footage. I agree, "so many things to remember." I have mixed feelings about using manual on the white balance for the same reasons you do; it may be better to keep it on auto when the sky is changing. I use an inexpensive screen cover from Amz that helps with the sulight/screen issue, but makes it more difficult to manipulate the gimbals. I also upload videos to TH-cam too rapidly instead of giving myself more time to think about the necessary edits. I have to remind myself that the deadlines are imaginary. I will have to try to cruise control, but I worry that it is one more thing that may get me in trouble when there are so many other things to attend to. Sorry for long my long reply; nice to exchange ideas with fellow drone flyer.
