Bill Browder just mentioned the REPO Act as a possible type of law to allow the UK to seize the frozen assets and give all of it to Ukraine. Sen. Whitehouse has been fantastic at uncovering the deep money and financial shell schemes and dark money...he has a YT channel that helps us understand and deconstruct. As I am sure many readers have noticed, "eternal war" is precisely the foreign policy we see in Orwell's _1984._ There is a difference though. Orwell's war opponents change constantly. Geography-Russia's location in *Eastern* Europe is driving him to be *anti-West.* That said, a Chinese threat from the *east* could change that. And of course eternal war has reasons. It offers an excuse for regimentation and distracts from domestic economic issues.

Russia has been currently autocratic, ethnic russian nationalistic & imperialistic for years. Same goals as other such countries whether local differences in ideology, same solutions used. I like applying the 14 criteria defined by Umberto Eco to detect a fascist society. Russia has successfully passed the procedure. Dont forget that kommunism in Russia was ideologically close to Nazism. Both some kind of twisted version of sociallism . Now I think the current Russia is a different animal where ideology is a tool for power not a goal.

Part of this stems from the disparity in the way the fall of the USSR affected Russia vs how it affected the formerly independent nations who got taken over by Russian empire operating under the guise of the CCCP. Russia treated those places like its colonial fiefdom, sucking out money, resources, people, the smart ones, the pretty ones, and whole businesses alike whenever it wanted. Russia lived high on what it took from those places. After the USSR fell, those people got out from under the Soviet yoke and largely went on to return to being independent places. Russia however still misses the glory days of easy access to the resources of other nations. It wants all that back. Those places, however, seem to have little/no interest in living under the Russian bootheel again.

Good on the UK gov't for blocking the sale to Qatar.. we here in Canada are suffering dearly as print media across the land vanishes due to internet platforms disseminating "news" 24/7. What's left has started sucking air as there's too much outsourced news and not enough local journalists reporting on or from ____. Each newspaper or terrestrial transmission outlet that's shut down means less investigative journalists digging for the truth... which gives more bandwidth to the sensational outlets thus making it easier for Joe Average to find Tucker Carlson and Mad Mike and now Joe believes RU is good and the Earth is flat. OMG... everybody's seemingly been blinded by the internet... the very thing that should and could dispel the BS is instead amping it up giving kleptocrats and dictators time to inflict severe damage upon our social liberal democracies. We need to get tough and say no thank's Orc, we don't want your big bag of cash... getthefuckouttahere.

That "eternal warfare" plan may have been workable for Russia as of 12 months ago, but the game has again changed: not only can Ukraine make its own long-range drone swarms for reaching deep into Russia to burn refineries and other things, but Ukraine now has access to longer-range precise western weapons that it's using to great effect in the near border regions. Under these circumstances, Russia will slowly become unworkable over time. Besides refineries, there are pipelines, dams, bridges, tunnels, power generation, manufacturing capacity of all kinds, river locks, military hospitals, and much more. This is the much slower, non-nuclear, non-carpet-bombing way to take a nation back to the stone age.

At the 43:35 mark, Casey states that when putin is done with Ukraine (if ever) his next (easier) target would be Kazakhstan. Totally makes sense, as everyone is familiar that Sevastopol was being leased in Crimea and that as unacceptable in the end, well, everyone forgets, the Baikonur Cosmodrome is being leased to russia and they would totally want to take enough of Kazakhstan to rejoin it with russia.

Ah yes, that Russia blackmails Trump lie will not die in defiance of extremely solid facts. Russia felt free to occupy part of Ukraine under Obama in 2014 _and got away with that._ It then made no aggressive moves under Trump, the supposed lackey. Then Biden takes office and Russia feels free to conquer all of Ukraine. And take note how little the Biden administration did to block that invasion. The general impression is that the invasion would succeed to be followed only by a little Western posturing. It is only the bravery and intelligence of Ukraine and stopping Russia in those first few week that has lead to assistance. And take note a continuing pattern in the Biden administration. Aid and policies that seem intended to drag out this war, making it hard for Ukraine to win definitively. In that the Biden administration is assisting Putin in establishing this eternal war.

@@FiveLiver There is no craving to connect Trump to Putin. Most people who care about the Independence of Ukraine would prefer that there was no connection at all. However, it is quite clear that with of without the direction of Trump the aid was held up by the MAGA wing of the Repiblican Party. There are also many reasons to be suspicious of What a Trump Presidency might mean for Ukraine all of which are based in reality. The idea that anyone critical of Trump is in some way deranged is in itself deranged.
