  • I've been cutting down some trees on the homestead getting the area ready for the site work so we can start the next project on the Farm. It was quite the day but it could have been so much worse other than having to deal with the rain we had to work in.

Just a suggestion - someone taught me that cooking your rice in advance and putting it in the fridge dries it out a bit and makes for a better fried rice and avoids the rice getting a bit gluggy.

We get more annual rainfall than the Pacific Northwest. I'm not sure what your project is but whatever it is, you will build it with pride and perfection. It's so enjoyable to watch y'alls videos.
It's almost like visiting with y'all, helping on the farm.
Visiting my aunt's farm in Texas was such a peaceful time, feeding the chickens, collecting the eggs, feeding the hogs, milking the cow.
They worked hard planting crops, harvesting, and growing their favorite vegetables, cantaloupe and watermelons...
I know the difference between good, organically grown food and the typical food available in grocery stores today. And I am fortunate to be able to get a good variety of organic food.
Thank you for showing people the Old School, natural way of farming...

    Hi Al,
The next project is building a snow melt pit. Dig a pit, two tractor blades wide by 10 feet deep. Some snow will melt due to natural geothermal heating. The kicker is you will heat the pit with solar heated water from evacuated tubes. PEX tubing will run from the evacuated tubes, an IBC holding tank (also buried in the ground for freeze protection), and the PEX tubing in the pit. When pit operations are not needed PEX heating lines will run to the green house for seasonal heating. Cheers,
    Bill

Hi! We enjoy watching your channel a lot. We have a small homestead as well and face many of the same challenges. We've noticed over the course of watching your videos that the audio level of the voice over when you are all at the dining table is usually lower than for the rest of the video. On this particular video, this is even more so. It would be great if you could figure out how to make that audio level a bit more consistent. Also, a tip we've used to get a rope up into tree is to use a weight on a string then pull the rope up using the string. A small weight on a string is easier to throw. For really large trees, we tape the string to an arrow and use a bow. Good luck and thanks for the great content!

Good job on the hinge work on the trees. Most new people to tree felling don't realize the importance of the hinge when you are cutting down a tree. It is absolutely the most important part for tree placement and safety. Have a great Fourth of July.

My father was an amateur radio operator and was always putting antennas in trees while camping. He would use a slingshot with a large nut. he tied fishing line to the nut and pulled the antenna up with that. Much easier than trying to throw the rope.

What you need is a place to store things. You store things in the outdoor kitchen, in the carport attached to the wood shed, in the side of the barn where you have the single stall, in the bottom floor of the house. That would be my guess.
