  • I upgraded to a 2024 KTM 250 SX-F and installed the factory edition connectivity unit offroad (CUO) and GPS. This videos explains how I did the upgrade and how to install the CUO and GPS unit. Connecting the CUO to your phone and KTM app is quite simple. You'll need to do this for both Bluetooth and WiFi. Connecting to the CUO over Bluetooth is how you'll program the engine and you'll need to connect via WiFi to download your rides and view your statistics. Full video on the app coming soon!

      Absolutely will. I think it's a great product for the price. You're not getting customized maps for the ECU or anything crazy, but it's a lot of data, which I like. I personally like the ability to decrease the amount of engine braking. Next video is coming soon. Unfortunately, a bit delayed if you saw my previous video with the crash. Thanks for watching!

    I'm contemplating switching from yamaha to ktm. I've seen a lot of videos on the CUO but none of them really demonstrate how much the programming can change to bike. I would like to see video on how much the engine braking can be reduced and throttle response actually change as a result of the app. I'm hoping someone throws on a go pro and demonstrates how much the engine braking and throttle response change. Sort of a before and after programming change demo. You could be the first! It's quite an investment so don't really want to spend the money if the app doesn't really change the bike that much. Nice channel and content!

      Thank you! I actually just rode a 2024 YZ250F (video will be live in a few minutes from this comment).
      The biggest change the CUO makes, in my opinion, is to the engine braking and throttle response. You can feel a significant distance. If you watch this video, you can see my settings and I talk about them: th-cam.com/video/rpdzBRBhav8/w-d-xo.html
      I'll make a video showing the differences between 1 and 5 in those two settings and try to get up soon. Thanks for watching - more on the way!

      @@ShiftGearsMoto Thanks so much! I like my 2017 yz250f but find it hyper torquey in corners and quite a bit of engine braking so I find it hard to roll into corners. I have the CUO installed on my 24 MY 250 SX-F. Well worth it for the weekend warrior! Word of caution - if you are worried about the accuracy of your hour meter, which I suspect you would be for resale value in future - when the CUO is on, ie any time it is lit up, the hour meter will be counting up on your bike! (Even if the engine is not running). That is true when you are sending new maps to the bike and downloading rider data (which can take a few minutes). After install, I gained about 2 hours on my hour meter of time when the bike was not even running!
    I contacted KTM, and their advice - The CUO acts as a diagnostic device and as such will add hours onto your bike. The recommendation from KTM when any diagnostic device is plugged in, is that the hour meter be disconnected before and reconnected after.
    So worth pulling the number plate off and unplugging the hour meter while you download or upload your data.

    • @ShiftGearsMoto
      @ShiftGearsMoto  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and the comment. I actually didn't realize the hours meter was still on when the CUO is on (it takes about 2-3 minutes to shutoff even after the bike shuts off, which is kind of annoying). All those extra minutes add up I suppose. I'll have to check today, but I thought the hours meter screen timed out when the bike off, even if the CUO is still on. Can you confirm it's actually still on?

    • @stevoppl
      @stevoppl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ShiftGearsMoto no worries, I enjoyed the video 👌
      I’ll send you what the KTM Technical Team sent me:
      “With regards to the hour counter. Loading maps falls under diagnostic classification, therefore please follow the guidance under section 6.9 Combination instrument:
      The combination instrument (1) is attached in front of the handlebar.
      The combination instrument shows the total number of operating hours of the engine.
      The operating hour counter begins counting when the engine is started and stops when the engine is switched off.
      Info
      Nothing can be cleared or adjusted on the combination instrument.
      As soon as the diagnostics tool is connected, the service hour counter starts running.
      Before longer diagnostic sessions, unplug the service hour counter behind the start number plate.”
      I noticed the hours had jumped up significantly after installing the CUO but before riding with it. It was quite obvious to me though as the bike was still basically new and had only 7 hours total.

    • @ShiftGearsMoto
      @ShiftGearsMoto  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great - thanks for sharing the info. I'll definitely keep an eye on it and if I plan on keeping the CUO on for awhile, I'll unplug the hours meter.
      Do you know which plug is the hours meter?

    • @stevoppl
      @stevoppl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On my bike there are 2 of the fully blue plugs, like the one at 3:28 (If I were to hazard a guess I’d say that blue plug is your hour meter as well).
      If you follow the wire down from the hour meter it will lead you to the correct plug. Then test it - quick flick of start button and if you hear the fuel pump prime but the hour meter doesn’t come on you’ve got the right one 😎

    • @platin2148
      @platin2148 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Uhh that is a nice thing. Well the CUO isn't acting as diag device but, you know what this can be something I'll add to the feature list. So that we remove the amount of time the CUO was on for that what we report in the TDT inside the app.
      There is also the issue that the hour meter of the app and the tacho will not match up as there is a different way to how they measure.

    • @ShiftGearsMoto
      @ShiftGearsMoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      $250 is for the GPS and unit. The KTM app is free, but you have to pay $70 per year for the LITPro integration for all the statistics like lap times, segments, etc. There is no additional fee to adjust the engine characteristics. It does not show overall mileage, just what was recorded.

      I think you need to run a loop 3 times for it to be recorded as a track. I'm not sure if there's a max distance or if dense trees would mess with the GPS. I've been meaning to try it, but I always just take my 250 XC-W for woods days.

      there are some really cool features, like reducing or increasing engine braking that I like, but it doesn't replace an ECU tune if you're a competitive racer. @@ShiftGearsMoto That i don’t fully get because it starts the logging and does end only if you stalled the engine or turned it off. Yes that would include the time to the pit but should not be captured by the smart phone as a track layout. I suspected already that the starting condition is definitely a thing that is more individual. And obviously it can’t know where the track is as that data isn’t on the unit (for now).
