I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
I started the TH-cam channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on TH-cam which i am extremly proud of.
I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

Liam I think you should visit my course in Derbyshire - stanedge golf club. It was closed down on the brink of being sold for farm land and fame Tate took over and has worked wonders there. It would be a good video to watch.
We cut our course by ourselves last season......and will do so again this season.
GOLF VLOGS & THE GOLFMATES Sadly, between the early 2000s and now there have been about a dozen course closures in Myrtle Beach, but that’s been due to over saturation of courses being built in the first place, and leases on property running out on land that is just too valuable to have a course on it. Real estate and commercial development has been what’s replaced the courses, although a few just remain dormant, waiting for development to begin.
Key thing you mentioned is getting the community involved and getting more people into golf. That's the key to maintaining the future and keeping courses open. Love the video and the passion is there.

Great vid, I want to do this with my local club - it's been mismanaged and asset stripped for the last 20 years - current management want to stick houses on it but thankfully the council have rejected it, so suspect they will move on ... i am putting a plan together with emphasis on bringing golf back to the masses, so happy to see that it works!

I'm a season ticket Member at Marland and play 4 or 5 times a week. Andrew and his team, from Clubhouse to Green Keeper are doing themselves proud! Liam, thank you so much for doing this video, and sharing with the Golf Mates Community not only what a great little course Marland is, but what an inspiration Andrew (not bloody Paul) and his team are. Ps, hope you enjoyed the walk up the 17th. Monkeytown.
Andrew Terry deserves to be knighted for saving Marland golf course, I`ve played here for 47 years , and the condition of the course now is superb. Liam said that Andrew has also kept Heaton Park GC from closing also, I and many others will be Paying £350.00 green fees, For Both Courses, For The YEAR. nuff said. p.s. Why is golf so cheap by you.... I'm an hour and 30 South of you and even the municipal courses are £80p/m. Privates are 1k+ for 18 holes.
It's a joke... I'm fortunately a member somewhere because I have a student card so they charge £325!
Chris M I pay £680 for the year at a course just outside Newcastle. I try and play once a week in winter and at least three times a week in the summer so it works out not too bad. But yes golf is expensive particularly clubs, clothing etc
Not only has Andrew saved a golf course, he has saved the love of golf and all the surrounding community's and it's members in them having their daily exercise with their golf mates, it's not easy trying or having to find another golf course to become a member, golf is becoming popular as ever now, so well done Andrew - respect as Liam said and from all golfers who have seen this video!

Liam It’s nice to hear that there people out there who will save golf courses. Living in south Birmingham over the last few years they have closed Hill Top golf course for landfill, they’ve closed the North Worcestershire for houses, they are in the process of closing Brandhall Golf Club for houses and there’s rumours going around that they going to close Church Lane golf club as well. Absolutely disgusting.
Andy and his partners have done a fantastic job of saving these 2 courses (marland and Heaton park). These are the 2 main courses I started to learn my golf. Every weekend I would have to queue up outside the pro shop at 5.00am to book for the weekend after ...how times have changed. Good luck to Andy for putting his self out there and taking on a massive challenge. Thank you Liam for giving this guy and his golf courses a helping hand. Love this type of vlog. #golfmates give these courses your support.

Great Video - Keep looking for the stories like this, plus games with your little group, plus some lessons etc, It's a great community, and deserves to succeed and be very much bigger, which it will be. It's come a long way since I joined and we all need to keep the momentum. Talk about it at the club, every chance. Support the events, I had twenty years off golf, returned last February and started to learn again, am currently laid up after an abdomen operation, BUT getting involved in events on occasions is one of my targets. Forward Coffin Dodgers!

August of 2020 the course has survived Covid so far, played it 2 times since and I can say for the money its one of the best in the Lancashire. Club is relaxed and friendly locals, great value
If you know a little bit about the history of golf you'd know that James Braid was a very famous golfer of his time and part of a group known as the great triumvirate. Harry Vardon, James Braid and JH Taylor won The Open 16 times between them in 21 tournaments between 1894-1914. For the record Vardon 6, Braid and Taylor 5 each.
I'm guessing, if the course was indeed designed by James Braid, you're playing a pretty special place 👍

I played Marland regularly back in the late 1970's. It was not £12 a round then, but I digress.

I've been playing here a couple of times every month since Autumn last year, first proper course I ever played after taking up golf last Summer... it's superb. Always in great condition and the guys are really cool.

I Think it’s Great what Andrew is doing and obviously the team behind him at both Courses, I am from South Wales and if these courses were down here at £350 a Year they would have 800 members +, James Braid course are great, if you ever get the opportunity go to the Headquarters of the James Braid Golf Society up in the Highlands in Scotland, Brora GC, Great Course and Welcome

Played my 2nd round ever at their other course Heaton Park 13 years ago after playing my 1st round of my life at Castle Hawk.
Heaton is a great course and good luck to them. Next time I'm over in the UK I am definitely doing Marland to show some support. I would bite off my left arm to pay only £12 for a round. Costs £60 to £400 a round here 😩😩. #useitorlossit. Great job Liam. 👍
I sometimes play Cannock Park Golf Club which is £11 a round and very similar to this course. I'd call the driver The Whistler and best advice I can give you Liam regarding your back is CBD oil. I use it all the time for different reasons but especially for aches and pains. Also you should do hot and cold treatment once or twice a week. (Sauna,steam room plunge pool)

Another great video Liam, thanks for giving me the golf bug again. Loch Ness Golf course, Inverness is closing 18 hole course and keeping open the 9 hole. Less than 100 members were left, land being sold off to more housing!
Well Liam - your video re golf clubs closing has now affected me. COLLINGTREE PARK GC in Northamptonshire. Staged the British Masters and EuroPro tour.
Collingtree Park Golf Club in Northampton was opened in 1990 by designer and former British & US Open Champion, Johnny Miller.
The members are trying to raise capital to turn it into a Members owned club since the owner has decided to sell it or close it after taking millions off Bovis Homes to build some houses on part of it. It’s the best track in the County - such a bloody shame!!!!

The clickiness in clubs, price of new clubs, and the stuffiness of some members is what puts many people off taking up the game and joining clubs. Great job 👍

Me, my brother and a couple of mates played here last week and I was genuinely impressed at the conditions of the course, some really good holes here. the front nine were really good.
Great looking course, would love for you to go back in the summer to see how good it is then. Massive respect to Andrew for his vision and keeping it open. I wish we had some courses like that here in Canada near me, it would make it affordable for many people to play more often.

Liam I'm going to give you the best advice I was given for a bad back. Stretch your hamstrings!!!!!! 10 minutes a day, every day. People have bad backs for many different reasons, but
stretching the hamstrings can alleviate most causes. For me initially it was painful, but the pain decreased and my flexibility increased and my pain went away. Give it a go, it

One of your comments took me back fifty years to my first ever "win", a monthly medal at Cold Ashby in Northamptonshire. So long ago that the prize was JJJ (Jacklin Jump Jets) merchandise. Back hurt like hell, from football, only turned up to be courteous to the group, swung S L O W and won!! - Did I learn from it, carry on swing slow and on to greater things?, Did I hell!, Back got better and back to trying to kill the ball.

Another good track especially in the summer & the greens are 1st class then. Another golf course, Castle Hawk only 10mins away so a bit of choice. I bet you was blowing walking up the 17th, after that picturesque par 3, What a Calf Wrecker. Good work pal 👍
Good video Liam looks like a really nice course and can't beat it for price ,I agree it's not much fun playing off mats,the course I play doesn't open until 28th of March then I can play off grass again if I can hit a fairway lol.Good to see someone seeing potential in a golf course hope it stays open as it looks good
I've thought about this for a while. With regards to courses struggling. You know how single golfers don't get right of way, if golf clubs would implement that rule I think it would help folk who just fancy a quick round to go out and play. May only be something small but I think it might help. Great video as always Golfmate

@@GolfMates The course is nice for letting you do that👍. Over here you would need to do that (with course's permission) around first tee time of the day. Still might encounter mowing on back 9 at that time.

The course where I played my high school district championship ...and several youth golf comps closed last year and even though I knew it was probably going to close I just was blew away when it actually did ....it was one of the longest and more challenging tracks around ....it was even the college I work at practice facility and course ....it was sad to see but there was just not enough business to keep it going ....and sad part is that it wasn't expensive 26 dollars for golf cart and 18 and ran specials in summer for twilight golf ....and dress code was very relaxed pretty much wear what you want within reason ... but it just couldn't survive .... maintenance cost were more than it was taking in and even though the owner kept it open couple years loosing money it finally took its toll on her and she had close the doors ....and it's grown over now .....and I am afraid the course I grew up on and playing is not going to make it very much longer .....anyways great see you playing better ....hope you are enjoying your new sticks .....and if I knew where send it I would send you a towel .....but proud see you at least making an effort to keep your clubs clean .....grooves are there for a reason mate ......
