That doesn't mean anything in rhe real world. You must become a mature lady in time for adulthood. Then you must decide on whether you will better yourself beyond tr he idea of physical fighting and use your heart as katana. You will not understand this now. But believe when i say all at once you may become aware when you have acheived this very thing i speak of.
I dont know who or what that is, but as a teenager Shorinji Kempo was associated with a far more unfortunate symbol. The Nazis stole the Swastika from Asia and perverted the symbol for eternity, regardless of how it is drawn. The sight of Japanese men wearing swastika (albeit left-facing) on their gi would not have helped their recruitment efforts one iota - fortunately, that is all history now, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shorinji_Kempo#Emblem
Despite the advancement and popularity of MMA style fighting today, there is no doubt that the basis for excellent control in fighting is still firmly rooted in traditional martial arts... a foundation that builds better fighters with control than most who just go straight to MMA/Gracie Jujitsu alone. Failing to understand the the full benefits of discipline of technique, failing to understand the importance of controlled emotion, and failing to appreciate the value of the tradition of martial arts; only from youth to adulthood can a martial arts practitioner develop the skill and technique necessary to become a better master of MMA fighting style. Yes, we see a lot of 'McDojo's' and fake martial arts 'masters,' but it is important to also realize that the most respected Dojo's have produced some of the best fighters in the world today. There is still value in traditional Kempo, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, and Aikido, etc., among other forms, but it is the practitioner who has to master the art by applying it in real-world scenarios; only to realize the weaknesses of the art, then to improve it. Most of these arts are effectives against a non-initiated martial artists, but only when challenged by another well-trained martial artist do we learn of our weaknesses, and this is where we learn that real-world martial arts no longer is competing just against the uninitiated, but by others who have mastered MMA style fighting. A real martial artist uses his discipline to challenge him or herself against other martial artists' styles; it is here we begin to see where are technique is strong and weak, and recognize where we need to improve it. But it is in the tradition of training from a young age that helps to build discipline that is needed to make advancements in traditional martial arts to become the next leading style that is proven effective; not just against a single opponent from the same style, but to further advance it to make it effective against multiple opponents from all styles; regardless their training, style, and technique. Martial arts is a process of evolution; first founded on traditional martial arts, then with years of training, we begin to evolve it and make it more effective form; a personal form that transcends the tradition toward advancement and improvement... a hybrid of the most effective techniques from today's traditional martial arts.
i just wanna say that... MMA is maded of traditional martial arts, MMA is not a martial art itsfelf but a system of them, usually it is a system of Muay thai, boxing and BJJ but some of them might go like Judo, Taekwondo, Boxing Or Bjj, Muay thai, Karate
@M T I agree with you in part, but from what I have seen from some 'MMA' dojo's, they don't treat it like a traditional martial art. The point that I was making is, in traditional (former) martial arts, students work their way up the ranks; months, if not in years, long before engaging in dangerous 'MMA' style grappling, choke holds, leg and arm locks, etc. However, in some MMA dojo's, they go right into it at all ranks. My concern is the lack of discipline and care of restraint that places some new practitioners with techniques far too early before comprehending the dangers - like giving a kid a Ferrari before he has learned to drive safely in his dad's old 4-banger... these arts need time and discipline; tradition and responsibility, long before teens and young adults are unleashed with these new skills. One of the problems we see today are cops using certain choke holds that end up killing people; they lack the training and discipline in how to use this technique, and it invariably causes unnecessary damage to a would-be person suspect... permanently injuring or killing without the intentions of either; not knowing just how much applied pressure to use for a lack of experience.

so-do-shin. the founder was a very practical man so the grappling techniques are very usable, too. `maybe after a decade or two of practice. but it’s possible. i have met high ranking teaching masters from the headquarters and they were really applying the techniques in realistic situations.
i was with them for four years while i was in university. i was a busy busy student so i never made it to all three classes in a week that they offered but i have got basic techniques so well woven into me that i can do a small demonstration at parties even after thirty years.
i did boxing before shorinji and full contact karate after. but my hart is with the kempo. the demonstration on the video were not performed by the most qualified people so it saddens me when i think about their image. but they never were into that anyway. too bad it’s exclusively for domestic market. definitely something to look forward to when you decide to move to japan.
Is it difficult for someone overweight like me to do Shorinji Kempo?
Not really
Excelente!!!
Great!!!
