- Join me as we explore the history of Piper Park, a journey over 150 years in Battle Creek, Michigan. Edward Piper Sr moved his family from New York to the Battle Creek area in 1864, and purchased 160 acres of land that spanned both sides of present day Capital Ave NE.
His son Edward Piper Jr donated the land which would become Piper Park in the early 1900's, and over the years the park has seen many changes. The landscape designer T. Clifton Shepherd spent many years designing and changing the park along with other city designers over the decades as the needs and interests of the community changed.

Thank you, Michael, for another wonderful video about the history of Piper Park. I found it very interesting. I have lived on Piper Ave. for 50 years and have witnessed many of the changes you discuss in the video. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it
Not only are your videos well edited and informative, they serve as a sourcebook for fellow historians. Thank you for your work, I am so glad you have chosen to share your research on this modern format!
Thank you
So much learning has occurred! Thanks!
Interesting history. One of my favorite parks in the city. Thanks Mike.
Mine too!
Thank you Michael. I really enjoyed that. I have always wondered where the first main house was located. Now I know. Amazing. Someone told me long ago that the river consumed a lot of verona and that they filled it in. They said that was why we have so many rocks under our lawns. Can hardly put a shovel in the ground without hitting rocks. Guess that was just a myth. Thank you again for doing this.
Thank you for another great video. Looking forward to the next one
More to come!
Another great video feather in Mr. Delaware's growing library of local history. Bravo!!!
Many thanks!
Thank you very much for this video.

Great video. I grew up in the 50's and 60's on Piper Ave and spend lots of time at the park . Thanks .
Cool memories!
