Chris Hedges gave an accurate explanation for the invasion of Ukraine by putting it in the historical context and then that other gentleman (and I use that term advisedly) tried to argue for his perspective by taking the initiation of the conflict back out of the context into which Chris had just placed it. An obvious example of partisanship, he characterized the explanation as being pro-Putin, and anti American, when in fact, it was merely a rehearsal of historical facts that didn’t excuse Putin’s decision to invade, but rather explained it and at the same time condemned it as a horrific waste of human life. He made it clear that this conflict could have been avoided altogether but for the hegemonic designs of the imperialist war-based economic regime in the United States.

Scott Lucas is purposely misreading Chris Hedges. Lucas needs to read John Mearsheimer who has been at "analysis" longer than Lucas; he would disagree with his reading of Russia and Ukraine.
Lucas is a shameless tool of US imperialism.
John mearsheimer also makes a lot of bad calls on it. So I prefer to look at the hard data myself. Russia is getting clobbered in losses of equipment. 5-1 ratio is staggering.

Scott is condemning Hamas and saying that they killed civilians, but it's been proven that the idf killed many of its own people as part of the hanibal directive. Also, there are no israeli civilians, all israelis above age 18 are in the idf, and the kubutz's are well armed and militaristic. All israelis have guns, there are no israeli civilians. Condemning Hamas is equivalent to condemning the Palestinian people to genocide.

Scott Lucas accuses Chris Hedges of being simplistic while him saying that in the war on Gaza only Hamas and Israel are involved (knowing that without the US Israel wouldn't be the military oppressive colonial force it is and that the US is able to stop this war overnight) is simplism par excellence.
I love the unweavering and unapologetic honesty of Chris Hedges (owning the mistakes of his country) and the objectiveness of the Professor from Dublin University!
I want to hear more of this argument between Chris and Scott. On the whole, Chris is right, unchecked U.S. imperialism is at the heart of a lot of the global disorder we're seeing today. On the other hand, there should be a lot of pushback on Chris's assessment of Russia/Ukraine. He sees it through a lens that, though not entirely inaccurate, really misleads on the cause of Russia's invasion.

I would have liked to have seen an entire episode about the potential nuance in the difference of opinions between the two speakers at the very end, i personally think both Chris and the other guy needed at least another 20 minutes each to convey the complex intricacies of their particular points of view, and despite there being an obvious difference of opinions I dont think leaving it where it was left was truly conducive to the overall intention of the discussion.
