    Superb presentation. I've been doing this for so many years. You are always learning how to do it better. There is no naturally right color for the milky way. It never really appears in color in real life. But as you present, having a tracker immensely improves your efforts. It is a must have.
    Now, blending the foreground is never expertly presented. You mentioned trees. What is the answer?

  • @ScotTheGr8
    @ScotTheGr8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I wish I could have better seen what the answer was to how to take a panorama. Is there a class for this? My efforts have been pretty sub par and I haven’t yet been able to come up with a good technique for this.

    Excellent presentation. What I take away are two things. 1) Don't discount the time spent researching and getting to and back from the place where you want to take the shot. It dwarfs everything else done in the process. The key driver is to treat the subject with respect. Planning, preparation and patience. It's the same with street photography only much longer. 2) Draw the line in the sand when it comes to what you want to achieve and don't overreach. GAS can take you to unnecessarily expensive places.

    Eric, if you see this... Are you saying that for polar aligning the Star Adventurer Polaris should be positioned on the reticle in the "opposite" position from that indicated in the polar clock utility on the phone? Or should Polaris be positioned as exactly depicted in the polar clock utility?

    Just found your channel and I know where all my TH-cam time will be spend in the coming weeks! Looks like you have a ton on here for me to learn. One quick question. At 33:10 in this video, Eric mentions that "Mike" showed a great technique for blending trees. Is the video of that session on your channel or otherwise viewable? I shoot in the Shawnee NF and trees continue to drive me mad now after 3 years of trying to learn better masking skills.

    • @wildlife351

    Hi Aaron,
    When we do tracked pano.
    As the camera has moved due to the tracker , we have to level it back up .
    How often do we have the level the camera back up while we are shooting?
    Every single shot? Or Once a row ?
    Thanks

I really haven't even gotten into post yet. It's a great hobby though, and maybe I can make some money back! Thank you again!

    Hi, do you do panos from left to right or right to left. Or does it not matter?

    • @CRAIGSCHULER
      @CRAIGSCHULER 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t matter. Stitching software like PTGui has settings where you tell it how your shot; start top left, zig zag etc., which helps in the stitching. I usually start top left.

    • @boardriderz
      @boardriderz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually it does matter a bit, but not how you think. It doesn’t matter for stitching software, because, as you say, the software can figure it out. I recommend shooting panos west to east through the pole (southwest to north to southeast in the northern hemisphere, and northwest to south to northeast in the Southern Hemisphere) as you will then shoot the descending sky in the west first meaning by the time you shoot all the sky (if going full 360) then you actually have more sky than you need, allowing you to hide the excess. It can easily take 15+ mis to complete 360 degrees and the sky can move a lot in this time. If you shoot the other way the sky will be smaller than actuality. Let me know if this makes sense, as I can explain it in more detail if needed. If you are only shooting smaller panoramas, then it does not really matter

    I feel like many of his images are totally over-processed. The wide Milky Way images especially.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting! You aren't alone and even two others gave a thumbs-up to your comment so they agree as well. I know Eric's process and it is A LOT of work. But whether it is over processed is a judgment call and very subjective. I don't personally feel his images are ruined by it though. They can be crazy full of airglow color but they are fantastic! I will be HOPEFULLY getting a Star Tracker myself this year and I am curious to see how my easy-going post-processing looks like with a star tracked image coming with benefits intrinsically even without extra steps to the post-processing. Can't wait to see! :D -Aaron

      Aaron King I believe he is taking about the first panorama milky way at the begin of the video. The sky is over satiated with green that completely ruined the image.
