  • We love cruising in our 1967 Plymouth Fury - and love that it's original AM radio works. But there's really not much on AM anymore. I wanted to keep the stock radio, yet I also wanted to listen to bluetooth audio from my phone.
FM Modulators are easy to find - but what about AM Modulators? Fortunately there is the RediRad! (redirad.com/) This is a unit, Made in USA, that takes your audio and transmits it over 1000khz AM - it's super easy to install, and works great!
We also added a Bluetooth adapter to our install - an add-on piece. In this video we will show how we installed, how we got the Bluetooth adapter to work with our RediRad, and how it all sounds - which is awesome by the way - like modern tunes over AM.

Wire Cutters/Strippers - These are great, I have both of these but you only really need one. 8-inch is good for most sizes if only getting one.
IRWIN Vise-Grip Wire Stripping Tool / Wire Cutter, 8-Inch (2078309)

    amzn.to/3nESsoW
    INNOVA 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter
    amzn.to/2Za5GzR
Wire Terminal ends - if you don't have these, best to buy an assortment, or hit up local parts stores for the ones you need. Here are some possible assortments that may work - I used what I had around the shop...
Qibaok 720 PCS Ring Crimp Terminals Connectors Electrical Wire Connectors Insulated Assortment Kit 22-16/16-14/12-10 Gauge
    amzn.to/3hJHB9c
Glarks 540pcs 22-16/16-14/12-10 Gauge Mixed Quick Disconnect Electrical Insulated Butt Bullet Spade Fork Ring Solderless Crimp Terminals Connectors Assortment Kit
    amzn.to/3EtdRHs
Remember, even if these are insulated terminals, you can easily remove that, crimp them using non-insulated die in the Astro tool above, and heat shrink.
I think that's it but will add anything I may have missed...thank you for watching!

Thanks for this. We have a gold 67 Fury III and we wanted to find something that plays on our factory radio... perfect video for our car!

Great video. I just bought a ‘68 Fury, and need to do the same thing. I never luck out with finding videos that show this type of thing on the same(ish) car as mine!

hmm, I am looking for best modern speaker sound coming from any of my classic cars. Not the one OEM dud of a speaker that came with the car, so I don't get what you are speaking about when you say you are looking forward to the factory sound system. I have a 65 Dodge Polara Convertible, first year the Polara was a C-Body Chrysler, so I appreciate your Fury.

2 questions, I didn't see how the RedRad conected to the radio, Does it splice in from the AM antenna wire, or does the RadiRad have an in and out antenna plug? 2, I noticed that power wire for the RadiRad and the Bluetooth had an in line fuse link . With that, does it need to go through the cars fuse box? Thanks for the video. I've been wanting to do something like this for my 66 Mustang and 63 Falcon.

You are correct in that the redirad goes inline with the antenna - it has an in and out. So plug the car antenna into the redirad and then the redirad to the radio.
Also yes since the items are fused you could hook directly to power however you may want a switch too so they're not constantly powered on. I chose the fuse used on the block mainly for convenience of a key-on power source.

Thanks very much for this. The Bluetooth unit is out of stock. Would you happen to have another specific recommendation and link?
Are you still happy with performance?

Is that white knob for reverb?

    • @VortexGarage

It's actually a fader knob and still works pretty well

How does feedback sound?? Is there a whine when its on?

I'd recommend giving RediRad a buzz if you have specific questions - as my reply may not be super helpful. I do have a slight bit of feedback on mine, but the car also has a very cheap set of plug wires that are giving off some noise. You get the same noise over the regular radio.
That aside, no feedback - and way less than listening to terrestrial AM.
Basically what RediRad points out is that the health of your electrical system, ignition system, and other factors can affect AM radio interference and hiss. Make sure you have a good ground for the redirad, and you should be good. But in my case I agree with RediRad that any of the feedback I've heard on my Fury is a result of deficiencies in the 54 year old electronics. I just upgraded the ignition to a Pertronix, and just got my new 8mm wires that I'm going to cut to custom lengths and that should solve what I hear. I'm super happy with the solution otherwise to keep my AM radio and play bluetooth off my phone.

@@VortexGarage Thanks for the video!!! Did you ever upgrade the ignition? Did it remove the hiss sound? I have Redirad using a Bluetooth adapter that has a battery and charging port. I only hear the hiss when I plug the Bluetooth into the cig lighter charger. I want to have direct power to the bluetooth like you do but don't want the hiss sound when i plug in the charger.
