holy shit man, massive respect and appreciation for this vid. my sister's red eared slider ended up getting his claw stuck in the filter and was completely lifeless, but we managed to get him awake and aware from your vid and a few articles we found within a couple hours❤❤❤ from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the no-nonsense, straight to the point video. he's now stable, got a vet appointment in the morning and we're watching him till then😊

This video saved my turtles life on Tuesday. No joke. I actually posted a comment the other day that said this. But i deleted it b/c I didn’t wanna jinx anything until she was in the clear. But I’m glad Pancakes is okay & I’m beyond happy you posted this.
So somehow one my logs in my Clemmys Guttata tub/pond got dislodged & she got trapped under it. When I found her she was seemingly gone. Eyes glazed over. Limp. No sign of life. I tipped her upside down w/ her head facing downward to get the water out, I couldn’t open her mouth b/c she’s so small.. but this helped & then I did some leg movements by pulling her legs in & out to get her lungs pumping & then I did mouth to mouth while I had her laying on my counter on her belly. After I’d give her air I would pump her front legs 5-8x & then her back legs 5-8x by pulling them in & out. Then more air. I did this for about 25 minutes & then she took a huge gasp of air & coughed out water. So I kept repeating the steps & her eyes started to clear up & she started to come back. After awhile she was reacting to me touching her back legs. But she was lethargic for about 16 hours. I decided to take her to the ER since she kept stretching out her neck which looked to me like she was struggling to breathe. Then she got horrible diarrhea & I could tell she was becoming dehydrated but it was too soon to put her back in the water. The ER prescribed her some antibiotic injections to give every 3 days for 2.5 weeks. They said you can’t see pneumonia & stuff right away on xray. So this was just precautionary. But now she’s doing really good. I’ve got her dry docked with a little Tupperware of 1.5 in water & she drank for like 45 minutes the first time I put her in it. Now she’s just lounging in the water & is acting normal.
Idk if I would have saved her if it wasn’t for this video. When my dad died at the end of 2020 I inherited his 15 aquatic turtles, his 4 tortoises & 1 box turtle & now they’re basically my life. They’re my kids man. They’re the one thing I have that helps me feel close to my dad & Rhoda, the turtle I saved is my favorite of the bunch. He saved her life after she was run over by a golf cart.. so she’d already had a rough life. Losing her would have sent me down a very dark path. I’ve been trying to find her a male to mate with but I can’t seem to find a male that’s of breeding age anywhere. Hopefully one day soon I’ll be able to be because she’s such a special little turtle & I would love to carry on her genes. But yeah, I just wanted to post this all to thank you for posting this & to maybe help someone else who may not know that you can save a drowned turtle. These are remarkable little creatures & they’ve saved my life too. After losing my pops who was my best friend I had a hard time finding meaning in life.. but these turtles helped me to do that… so you don’t know how grateful I am for you & your channel! Thank you for posting this!

Was your turtle moving at all? In the video I see the turtle is moving. This morning I found my mud turtle belly up. Took him out of water immediately. His eyes were open but he did not move or react at all. I didn’t know this method. I dry docked him flat for an hour then took him to vet. They tried to listen to his heart beat with a device but they couldn’t hear any. So they told me that my sweet boy is dead… I am very heartbroken. I am now wondering if I did apply this method would it work even if the turtle didn’t have any heartbeat, or was it too late already?

I did a small intake bay for my pond with a pump vault to avoid direct contact--even without the intake bay, you could use a pump vault (quality product from aquascape, another company or a diy with a 5 gallon bucket and several large holes drilled) instead of a bag... as long as the water enters the vault faster than the pump can empty it. The basic principle is how the pump draws from the many openings lightly as opposed to the strong suction at a single opening.
Best of luck with the recovery--love your videos.

This is great! I had a very similar situation with my pink belly sideneck, Pinks. I was also successful. I was an absolute wreck. It took about 24 hours for her to get back to acting normal. She was pinned by her head under my filter. The suction cups had come loose while she was underneath it. She had a horrible indention on her head. It was awful. But I am SO happy to say she has fully recovered! ☺️🐢💦

At first when i picked him up his neck had no control. He flopped like a dead fish and he was completely limp. I did what you said and he came back to life. He still needs to recover some more but for no vets being opened right now .. your video was key to my turtles life. Ive had splash since i was 6 years old. Im 29 now.

I just had this crazy idea, I wonder if placing the turtle inside a bucket of raw rice would dry out its saturated lungs. Kinda like when you drop your phone in the water and before turning it on, you immediately place in rice overnight.

My painted turtle drown and thankfully we went outside that night to check on the turtles before we went to bed. When we found him at the bottom of tub looking dead. I put him up on the basking platform that I made for that tub. And I was getting ready to go dig a hole. I thought I seen him lift his head and I told my husband he's not dead he moved. So then I put him inside my house and dry docked him. He started moving around after a couple hours. It was his first winter outside so I don't know if that was part of the cause. I live in FL so we don't have normal winters. Anyway he is fine now still growing and a very happy boy.

My baby box turtle died in bottom of my tank.... I saw him just in time, I had to cpr him. I put him shell down in my palm kinda upside down I had to force the fluids out of my 1inch and a half baby, he was definitely gone and I brought him back I was so happy. He was definitely dead for a few.. But chest compressions worked for him gave him a puff or 2 of air it was not air that I inhaled yet that's important just open your mouth "bite" air don't inhale use your tongue to force atmosphere air into him and boom he was back it was the coolest thing. I'm so glad I go look at my tank all the time otherwise he would have been dead. I love my baby rescue box turtle...

I couldn't even look at her empty tank for a week. I know some think, "It's just a turtle". BULLS**T. My Josie and me were so close. I only started watching turtle videos now despite losing her months ago. But I decided to watch your videos today just to remind me what it was like to have her. But I can't bring myself to get another one. It will feel as if I'm trying to replace her and no one could replace my precious baby girl💔😭💔. Thank you so much for your videos

I am so glad that pancake is gonna pull through!! While I know this has nothing to do with this exact video I need some help because I am dealing with an issue in my RES aquarium and wanted to see if you had any advise. I recently discovered I have freshwater copepods in my planted and my RES tank. I have been told it's nothing to be worried about yet all the turtle groups I follow on FB say I should still do an entire filter and tank cleaning on my RES tank even though it would cause a bacteria bloom they said it should handle getting rid of the copepods yet everything else I've read including the pet stores told me not to worry and that you can't get rid of all of them short of throwing everything out and starting all over. I am so stressed and confused and need help! Should I do a full cleaning or just not worry about it. It's 1 4.5 inch male in a 75 gallon. No fish or anything live besides Buddy (RES) in that tank and its a bare bottom. I already do monthly maintenance on my Fluval 407 and weekly 25% water changes. Please any advise would help ease my troubled and worried turtle mom mind! Thank you in advance.

I didn’t know turtles could drown. I thought since they live in water they’d be fine.

My 6 month old common snapper drowned today. I used to leave a sock in his tub because I thought it comforted him. He ended up crawling inside and could not get out. When I get off work, I found him inside lifeless. He already had that death smell so I knew it was too late. Please do not put anything inside their enclosure that they could crawl inside and not get out. Rest In Peace Romeo. You were a great turtle and friend. I’ll miss you very much.
PS. I want to get another one but do not know the next time they lay eggs. Romeo was a Florida common snapping turtle if that helps. Stay safe and love your turtles everyone.
