An excellent choice of book - I would recommend First Light to anyone. A marvellous read and really makes you understand the realities of air to air combat.
At 03:35 75-80% my arse! They won't be flying anything like that kind level, not even close. Oh and please play the dogfight at actual speed, this is not Hollywood.
1, the aircraft are 80 years old now so they won´t fly at full tilt because they want to keep them flying a while longer. 2. The last thing they want to do is to have to clean puke out of the control rods that run through the aircraft when they have a passenger on board. I flew in a the twin seat Spitfire based at Goodwood with Boultbee a few years ago, I wasn´t allowed ANYTHING in the cockpit as the control rods to the elevator and rudder run under your feet, even the smallest thing could jam them. The one thing the pilot said was "do NOT puke in my aircraft!" ;)
Lovely film. I always had Dermot down as a bit of a pillock tbh, but respectfully done. Nice one.
Because he really cares what you think about him 😂
One day I will book a flight in a Spitfire. It's been 10 years since I had a ride in the Goodwood Aero Club Harvard. It's long overdue.

First Light is an incredible book, isn't it! It should be one of the top reads for any Spitfire fan.

Dermot looks very pale during dogfight 🤢
I wonder if he had permission from Simon Cowell to go up in that spit.
