Abandoned Prison - Cresson State Correctional Institution

- Last winter I explored this large minimum security abandoned prison with my friend Chris. We didn't realize there would be snow on the ground so we were very unprepared with wearing sneakers. We only got to check out about 6-7 buildings on the property before the sun started setting. It looked like theres a good 15-20 buildings there. I couldn't find much history about this prison closing besides that it was due to funding being cut. Hope you enjoy the video!

I spent 6yrs here from 2000 - 2006 got out then went back 2009 and got out 2010 for the final time

I served a bit of time here, between 2012/13, right before it was shut down. All of the remaining inmates were bussed (along with SCI Greensburg inmates) to various prisons around the state. Most ended up at SCI-Phoenix. The amount of sex offenders housed at Cresson was absolutely staggering. I couldn't wait to get out of that damned place.
This is my first time watching your incredible videos. I'm sorry, but may I ask what happened to your lovely friend Rebecca with whom you are filming? I saw that you had wrote the Memorial to Her at the end of a few videos she was on with you, and I was shocked to see that. I am Extremely Sorry For Your Loss, and of her Family's.

Thank you! We didn't realize how long it would take to get around in the snow. We wanted to go back and finish the video but we heard of people getting caught a few months after this.

Why gravy?
I worked in that prison for nine years. At the heydey, there were almost 2,000 inmates and 500 employees. Great employees, some of the best people I ever worked with and knew. Richard Bell here not Jeff Miller.
Wow, that's a lot of inmates. The property was huge. I heard the buildings are now being used for hydroponic farming.
I went there about two years ago and parked across the street at the.. state park I think. Didn't think it would be super easy access so walked around the whole perimeter before entering and only go to explore about 5 buildings as well. Dope place.
is the place still abandoned? I know that some of the buildings were up and running when I went.
We hiked pretty far ourself for this one. We seen a good half of the buildings, but I wish I went back to see the rest before they started using the property again. Now its a huge grown farm for indoor weed plants. I really wish I could explore it now, haha!
It isn't abandoned anymore now. It's a huge weed growing facility.
