Yes. Reduce and reuse your plastic and glass bottles as well as plastic grocery bags. Grocery bags make great packaging material to protect the product inside the box. I can easily put hundreds of bags in a small box to protect fragile goods.

I've been looking into it, and what Oregon does is crush glass into fine sand and use it to build roads and for drainage material in land fills (the exact same thing they would use sand for). I think that's probably the best option, because it is still recycled, and it does not cost a lot of money (they would have to collect glass for trash too).

Nothing should go into the landfill unless it is absolutely necessary.
My local recycling centre always gets so much glass bottles and jars from the recycling wheelie bins that they'll take some if there's storage, the rest all dumped. If places or recycling centres are getting too much glass coming in then there should be a separate place for trucks to dump all of the cities glass bottles and jars where there's plenty of storage for it, and to break and sort through it.

That should not actually be too difficult at least on a small scale. Blood cells are separated by colour in a device called a Coulter counter, a similar machine is used for detecting bad peanuts and other similar foods. But in the process, the normal ones are still crushed into cullets. Providing if we can get broken glass into recycling plants safely (without harming waste handlers), is broken glass still recyclable? Hello Lam, Devon accepts broken glass bottles as the glass is completely crushed to be melted and reused. There is no way to recycle glass that doesn't involved crushing and melting it, so we don't know why the strength of the broken glass would be an issue! We don't accept broken drinking glasses or vases etc though as they are made from a different sort of glass which may be what you are talking about?

First world countries tend to throw out a lot of glass without it being recycled because they really don't care. and there is no one to go through it piece by piece. In third world countries the glass can often be sold, so everyone recycles it and if they dont the garbage men sort through it all to pull out all plastics and glass to help supplement their terrible salaries.
