    As an Ex Hotel GM , who opened a luxury hotel or two and spent years managing hotels in the Middle East and Asia, I recognize lots of the pre-opening stress, the endless lists of things " to do" the co-ordination requirements between suppliers, differing departments, owners, prospective guests, government folk who want a peak and the one abiding knowledge that there just isnt enough time. And probably that opening date wasnt within your control and that you wish there were 3 months more. etc......

    the pressure when working in luxury hotels like this is really huge. this reminds me of the time working in the Palace ... first few months or even years of adjusting to the pressure and the work environment and coping with stress. Luckily i have overcomed it until 12 yrs. The experience taught me a lot of things and im thankful.

    I’m so glad there are people that can do all the little things that makes ones stay amazing. To the little candies/snacks left in the room to house keeping that has to clean up after rich slobs. For all of them to still be professionals all while being yelled at by management, at least some of the time, astounds me.
    There’s a reason why some of us fix things for a living while others create, clean, direct, guide, manage, etc, etc, etc. I like being a mechanic, because my jobs don’t have feelings and have an owner that’s glad you showed up, even though they know it’s costing them money.
    The people in the service industry are a different breed, an amazing breed, they have to be to want to see people smile. KUDOS to everyone in these industries.

      I hope they paid you well, as well as all the other 8000 workers. The hotel will charge an arm and a leg to stay and dine there, but unfortunately the workers who built it and now service it will only benefit from that place when they leave, if they leave, that they can put it in their C.V. Other than that, the money won’t be worth the stress and vigorous training they will endure.

I've been through this process, I was part of the Emirates Palace contigent team and the Address Hotel Dubai Marina. It was fun and at the same time heart-wrenching. The Gulf has the best hotels in the world, even here in Canada, luxury hotels like Ritz-Carlton doesn't met theat level of standard.

      For the people talking about the construction workers , have you seen it with your own eyes or you're just blindly hearing stuff and believing it?? I've lived in Dubai for more than 15 years , sure the workers live in bad conditions , but that's hard labour jobs for ya. It's not a 5 star hotel , they come there for work , not to fool around. Show me any construction site in the world , they live the same way , even worse. Construction workers get breaks and days off most of the time , they always walk and gather around in parks and budget cafes , they walk around in malls and throughout the city just like all the other employees who are on a working visa. So stop spreading misinfo and believing nonsense. Other countries are just jealous of Arab people being the richest in the world and having the safest countries in the world. If the Gulf was so bad , then why does the whole world go there as tourists and job seekers??

    • @chah5001
      @chah5001 ปีที่แล้ว

      But lets not forget that those 8000-10000 claimed construction death figures are absolutely false and those figures are actually of all south east asian people that died in Qatar over a 10 years period of all ages of all genders of all types of work and not just construction worker and that figure was weaponized into a propaganda hit piece that was made and regurgitated by other news companies and spread out of sheer hatred, envy and racism toward Arabs.

      Around a thousand years ago Imam Muhammad Al Ghazali told story of a man walking in the jungle. A roaring lion ran towards him and the man ran as fast as he could to escape from it. He noticed a well in front of him and he jumped inside hoping to escape from the lion. As he was falling inside the well, he grabbed onto the rope and saved himself. The man was so relieved but when he looked down he saw a big snake at the bottom of the well. It had its jaws wide open ready to swallow him up. The man then looked up and saw two mice nibbling at the rope. A black mouse and a white were both chewing into the rope. The scary lion was still prowling outside the well. The man's heart was pounding as he wondered how he could escape from this. Then he noticed a honeycomb in front of him which had delicious honey dripping from it. He stuck his finger into the honey and put it inside his mouth. It was delicious and for a moment he forgot about the lion, the snake and the two mice chewing at the rope. Imam Ghazali explained that the lion is like the angel of death which is always looming above us. The snake was like his grave which all humans will face. The black mouse and white mouse were like the day and night which are always nibbling at our life (the rope). The honey was like this dunya (this temporal world) which with its momentary sweetness makes us forget the death and the eternal life.

      You have to understand that those what you call poor were not forced to come to the gulf and work. They need what the could not find in their own home. They were hired by recruiting companies from their own country to work for western companies who have contracts with the gulf countries. A lost of them came without any experience. I do not know why some western people criticized the gulf government and do not criticized the western government who brought them as cheap labor. You can see so many companies who left the west and head toward the east because of the cheap labor. The western media are hypocrites they criticized the gulf countries because someone dies during a construction and forget thousand of children and people died from war in the middle east specially in Palestine. The massacres in Gaza as an example. The poor Latinos who get the lowest wage working in the US farms etc.

    Chapeau to everybody involved in this project, great job! I could now go on with a couple of things, but first German Managers/Chefs have some of the best reputation for large scale projects. Earlier someone made a comment to that the employees work for long time. Most of them are below 30 and unfortunately not many many of them will still be there in 5-10 years, for private reasons and guest like to see young employees especially at the front of house, housekeeping etc.

      If you want the West to patronize the East.....standards of both human rights and luxury will have to be exceptional. The West looks askance at paternalistic societies. After all, it was because of the cruelty of autocratic European societies that the West came to dominate the world. The East must adopt to Western aolues or else perish as oil supplies and need dwindles.
