  • The Katara Tower, Doha. After 10 years of planning and construction, these two towers are a symbol of Qatar on the Arabian Gulf. In just 12 weeks, two luxury hotels will open on 37 floors each, with almost 500 suites and hotel rooms as well as 18 restaurants, bars and cafes. Money is no object- as the goal is to surpass all previous mega-hotels on the Gulf. With the world's largest chandelier at a height of 57 meters and the world's only multimedia kaleidoscope in a hotel lobby, there are only 80 days left to finish on time. An almost impossible task for Christian Hirth, the German manager of both hotels. Despite construction sites everywhere, the team and Christian Hirth are meticulous in their attention to detail and ensure that everything is absolutely perfect before it opens. Two weeks before the opening, the 1,130 employees from 73 countries finally see their uniforms for the first time. Join us as we explore this mega-hotel, the new landmark of Doha.

As an Ex Hotel GM , who opened a luxury hotel or two and spent years managing hotels in the Middle East and Asia, I recognize lots of the pre-opening stress, the endless lists of things " to do" the co-ordination requirements between suppliers, differing departments, owners, prospective guests, government folk who want a peak and the one abiding knowledge that there just isnt enough time. And probably that opening date wasnt within your control and that you wish there were 3 months more. etc......

I hope they paid you well, as well as all the other 8000 workers. The hotel will charge an arm and a leg to stay and dine there, but unfortunately the workers who built it and now service it will only benefit from that place when they leave, if they leave, that they can put it in their C.V. Other than that, the money won’t be worth the stress and vigorous training they will endure.

I've been through this process, I was part of the Emirates Palace contigent team and the Address Hotel Dubai Marina. It was fun and at the same time heart-wrenching. Around a thousand years ago Imam Muhammad Al Ghazali told story of a man walking in the jungle. A roaring lion ran towards him and the man ran as fast as he could to escape from it. He noticed a well in front of him and he jumped inside hoping to escape from the lion. As he was falling inside the well, he grabbed onto the rope and saved himself. The man was so relieved but when he looked down he saw a big snake at the bottom of the well. It had its jaws wide open ready to swallow him up. The man then looked up and saw two mice nibbling at the rope. A black mouse and a white were both chewing into the rope. The scary lion was still prowling outside the well. The man's heart was pounding as he wondered how he could escape from this. Then he noticed a honeycomb in front of him which had delicious honey dripping from it. He stuck his finger into the honey and put it inside his mouth. It was delicious and for a moment he forgot about the lion, the snake and the two mice chewing at the rope. Imam Ghazali explained that the lion is like the angel of death which is always looming above us. The snake was like his grave which all humans will face. The black mouse and white mouse were like the day and night which are always nibbling at our life (the rope). The honey was like this dunya (this temporal world) which with its momentary sweetness makes us forget the death and the eternal life.

I’m so glad there are people that can do all the little things that makes ones stay amazing. To the little candies/snacks left in the room to house keeping that has to clean up after rich slobs. For all of them to still be professionals all while being yelled at by management, at least some of the time, astounds me.
There’s a reason why some of us fix things for a living while others create, clean, direct, guide, manage, etc, etc, etc. I like being a mechanic, because my jobs don’t have feelings and have an owner that’s glad you showed up, even though they know it’s costing them money.
The people in the service industry are a different breed, an amazing breed, they have to be to want to see people smile. KUDOS to everyone in these industries.

After all, it was because of the cruelty of autocratic European societies that the West came to dominate the world. The East must adopt to Western aolues or else perish as oil supplies and need dwindles.

That is why I work with Joseph Sylvan Anderson, who introduced me to a better financial community, a reputable organisation where I learned how money functions and how to make it, as well as free books, courses, and daily lectures. Furthermore, you get to socialise with new people, which was the best choice I ever made.

As a travel professional and planning to visit the Raffles, Fairmont or both hotel properties in Doha I am very impressed with the design of the building and I am appreciating being made aware of how the staff are trained, the food is prepared, and the background workings of the hotel(s). I am a stickler for excellence so I am truly looking forward to visiting and experiencing all that the hotel(s) have to offer for myself as well as my potential clientele. I am impressed with the attention to detail. And what I have seen so far is amazing!

Chapeau to everybody involved in this project, great job! I could now go on with a couple of things, but first German Managers/Chefs have some of the best reputation for large scale projects. Earlier someone made a comment to that the employees work for long time. Most of them are below 30 and unfortunately not many many of them will still be there in 5-10 years, for private reasons and guest like to see young employees especially at the front of house, housekeeping etc.

Gotta smile as the young, blonde toy boy/hotel manager has no clue what to do, while the older woman clearly knows what's going on, as she repeatedly shoves him out of the way to show him how to solve a problem, (the phone on the night table shown at 13:58 needs to be set on the gold lamp tray and leave the charger exposed on top with the small writing pad and pen set above it... problem solved, if pretty boy would just get out of the way and stop playing for the camera, and let the expert do her job.)

The problem is, an average tourist can’t afford to pay $1,500.0 Euros a night for that luxury. To me this kinda luxury hotels and buildings are just a bragging rights in Middle East, who can outdo the other countries hotels or buildings. But it’s extremely uptown and beautiful. May be if our civilized politicians in USA stop their business of money laundering from other countries and stealing taxpayer’s money, may be only may be they can spend some money in on our infrastructures like roads and broken bridges in this country. But this is just a wishful thinking.
