  • Learn when the letters/sounds t and d are removed at the end of words. When are the t and d sounds silent at the end of words. I also talk about the glottal stop at the end of words and how to pronounce it.
    Removing /t/ and /d/ isn't vital to use in your own speech, however, it's very useful for your listening comprehension. :)

    I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

    Emma I dunno why n how but whenever I see ur videos, I just become extremely happy. You videos tend to make me smile alot. It's probably coz I start felling like I can do this (british accent), or maybe because I start felling like a Britisher whenever I watch your videos.

    It happens naturally. I noticed that I do it very often even in phrases like inside me, all right, don't etc. Speaking like this is easier and more fluent and understanding different accents is getting better. And I'm not stuck in it any time I can change my type of pronunciation and that delivers.)

    I am a native English speaker (just 70 years experience…) but I’ve never really thought about this before. You are correct that we do sometimes drop the fricative at the ends of words, at least in normal conversation. This is certainly important for language students to be aware of, so they can follow dialogue more easily. But I wouldn’t encourage them to do it themselves, unless they are very confident - foreigners’ attempts to speak colloquially are often a bit embarrassing.
    It’s also important to be aware that these dropped ‘t’s and ‘d’s are really elisions not glottals.

    • @Pronunciationwithemma
      @Pronunciationwithemma  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I don't quite understand the intention behind your comment as it's riddled with mistakes, sadly.
      Ellision and glottal stops are two different things (both covered in the video but they're NOT the same thing and that's made quite clear).
      Furthermore, /t/ and /d/ aren't fricatives, they're plosives.
      Finally, non native speakers can choose to speak however they wish. If they want to cut or glottalise sounds, they should be able to. This video is for those people as well as those who want to simply understand it.
