Unfortunately some people are just here to hate on EVs. Had their mind made up. I wonder how many even watched the video before making comments.
It’s a good video. The car is not for me but was glad to learn about it.

The only reason Americans, especially lefties, are tolerating these things is because the damage to the environment for the lithium and such is not happening in their back yard.

I watched it and still hate EVs. First and foremost our PM and ENVIRONMENT minister is forcing us to be all EV in 2035. With the recent cold snap in Alberta and Illinois, EVs showed their true colors dealing with cold. EVs are useless for towing...is why I own a Tundra with a v8. On the hiway with no trailer, my truck can go 1200 kms on a full tank. If i take my 5 gerry cans of gas, now my range is 2 000 kms or more. With an ICE vehicle, once fully warmed up, you have infinite amount of heat. In the summer you can use AC all you want. Then there isnthe charger issue...many are not working...or occupied or something AND many are powered by fossil fuels. Totally idiotic.

Maybe not necessarily hate, it's the current state of EVs impossible to ignore ... Mostly for same or more money you get less of vehicle due to all charging deficiencies and more depreciation because of battery age... Other then that the positives are fun, but in my opinion they outweighed by negatives if you can't afford 2nd vehicle

One thing people often overlook about range anxiety is that the issue is not limited to electric. If you were in a gas vehicle, driving in a remote area, you could also find yourself in a situation where you are low on fuel with no station nearby. So it’s always important to research your route.

    • @drivingsports
      @drivingsports  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

BUT with petrol you can reasonably assume that a gas station works. Electric chargers in the US are far more unreliable than they should be.

Lots of reviewers like to play up the range anxiety even when it won’t affect them or say they aren’t. Even based on what the vehicle was telling him, that he had more than enough range to make it back, he kept mentioning it. Just Interesting. I like his reviews but that just something and and many others play up at this point.

I actually like electric cars. I think they are a cool tech, and I’m sort of a gadget geek. However, that being said, there needs to be many, many improvements in charge times, range, availability of public charging (not to mention properly operating public chargers, as you experienced in this video) price compared to petrol vehicles, etc etc before these are anything other than a very small minority of vehicles. And I have a feeling if governments/car manufacturers try to “force” these vehicles onto consumers, which some states will be doing in the next few years, the car manufacturers in those states will see a fairly precipitous drop in new car sales as electrics are simply not financially viable nor practical for a large majority of people and people will keep their current petrol cars until the wheels fall off. All that said, this is actually a pretty sweet ride. And another good quality video Ryan, thanks.

I was skeptical jumping into the electric car movement. There are some great incentives going on and I was able to pick up the 2024 twin motor version for $43K, it was a good deal off the 61K MSRP asking price, at least in my eyes. Thus far, I actually like it, makes great for running errands and visiting customers. I would never give up my two petrol vehicles but this makes great for a throw around spare car.

I suspect in the 2030s many brands we know and love will be discontinued entirely or sold of for a cheap buck. I don't get how such large companies with enormous workforce can put all their eggs into one basket. It's not good business. Hundreds of thousands of workers will be unemployed if the EV industry doesn't get to those huge targets set in many countries. Why? Why do EV manufacturers put bells and whistles in their vehicles that use valuable electricity when they already don't have all that great of range compared to their gas equivalent?!? And I'm really loving the comments by two EV cheerleaders who are ignoring a lot of facts and telling us we're all wrong. If I want to have range anxiety I'll pass the gas station that's a very comfortable 380 miles into my drive and go to the one 440 miles that's slightly uncomfortably further. It'll still take roughly 5 minutes to top my tank to 100% either way and the gas flows pretty much as easily at 0F as it does at 80F. And it doesn't ding my range to run the heater.

Until a new battery technology gets invented, the concept of the EV will always be of novelty. Even if we did invent a new battery technology that could be fully recharged in 5 minutes, the electrical grid would collapse. Here in the state of Texas, ERCOT runs with around a 10,000 MW overhead for safety in the winter. At a 5 minute charge rate, around 100kW... it would only take approx. 50,000 EV's to crash the grid. Texas has 22 million registered automobiles. If only 0.2% of those were a "fast charge" EV we would be sitting in the dark. I shouldn't have to explain further how EV's are insane and at least 100 years away from being ready.

Finally someone who is thinking rationally about how ridiculous it is for these states and governments to really believe that in 5 or 10 years we will be able “switch to EVs”. Not to mention, add to your calculations the fact that the heavy truck industry is starting to play around with EVs as well. As you said, it would be a blackout without billions upon billions of dollars being invested in infrastructure. Some states, that will go unnamed, are already asking residents to limit electricity use in extreme cold and heat weather conditions and it’s those same states that want all new vehicles to be electric. Complete lack of common sense.

@@adamblakeley5865 You’ll see on the internet and TV people talking about “deep state” and such trying to destroy the human race. That’s about as far from the truth as you can get. The truth is even scarier: The people we appointed as leaders are just really ignorant. They think they are doing the right thing, backed by scientists who are just as ignorant advising them.

I think Volvo is making a big mistake by going all electric.
I love my gas XC60 but will not buy an electric car.
      Mercedes is being smart.
They will offer gas, hybrid and electric cars.Let the market decide!

If you're wondering why auto manufacturers don't install small generators in EV's to get around the dismal charging systems... It's because a onboard generator that could output 20kW would burn around 5 gallons an hour for up to 60 miles per hour of battery recharging. That means your EV would get around 10 miles per gallon and showcase just how inefficient and frankly... stupid... these cars are. A modern gasoline car averages 35mpg, or over 3 times more "environmentally friendly" than any EV.
Now, to counter that argument? A modern electrical grid like what powers your home can be upwards of around 65% efficient, much better than a small ICE. This is the whole concept why Elon Musk made Tesla. Regardless what you drive, you're going to burn fossil fuels so he wanted to shift the burning of the fuel to a more efficient and less polluting system (large scale power plants). That means using something like a Chargepoint to recharge your EV gives you an overall gasoline equivalence of 20-25mpg but with a much smaller carbon footprint in terms of burning fossil fuels. Unfortunately, the production of the lithium battery totally removes that environmental benefit as making those things is one of the most environmentally disastrous thing humans have ever done.

You're basically describing a hybrid. Some of them seem to siphon off a little of the engine's output to charge the battery when load allows.

You analogy just points out the inefficiency of the internal combustion engine, where most of the fuel's energy is wasted as heat. Plus if your name matches where you live, Texas has one of the worst electric infrastructure in the US. Most of TX isn't connected to the rest of the grid (except for the TX panhandle). Guess who in TX didn't lose power during the big ice event 2 years ago? The TX panhandle.
