As someone who has worked with the young furs meets at anthrocon for the past two years (I ended up running half of 2019s when we had to split up), I know firsthand of whats up. The reason we had to split up was because the amount of attendees to the meetup had increased so much, the room couldnt fit them anymore! I would be fine if adult activities went on behind closed doors or in designated areas, but the sheer amount of people in outright fetish gear, in daylight, in the public streets of pittsburgh not only gives us a bad name, but also exposes children--not teens, children--to nsfw content. On top of that, the dealers den is chock full of poorly covered pornographic material I've had so many kids accidentally stumble upon. Yes, I always will appeeciate the openness of this wonderful fandom, but I think that we have a duty as a group to protect the pups who are trying to find a place. We were all there once; we all found a sense of community here. Why would we want to take that away from others by scarring off their parents and possibly traumatizing the children? (My 12 year old brother did NOT need to see a half naked man in bondage gear waltzing about at noon) If you're still reading this, when conventions start up again, I implore you to just keep an eye on the young furs. There is an admittedly disproportionate amount of pedophilia going around and the amount of times I've had these kids have told me they had to get security because some asshole was creeping on them is astonishing. I feel like part of the reason the fandom is like this could be because (from what I've seen) our fandom is much more open to sexual content and fetishes than other fandoms. I'm okay with it, adults can choose to do whatever, but I wish the fandom could be more thoughtful of others (like the minors in the fandom) before being so public about their kinks
I think the problem really stems from what people consider NSFW, I really feel that moving soft-core fetish art to a separate section is what we need to move toward.

@@SAMO_1977 I think the problem is that were seeing it as a something bad, so the people that prefer things that are risque are feeling oppressed and acting offensively defensive about it. A lot of people are pushing for the sexuality of the fandom to be erased, and a lot of people don't want that. Especially because part of what made the fandom so diverse in sexuality in the first place is that lack of fear of the subject. So some people see pushing sexual themes out of the fandom as a slipperly slope to pushing LGBTQ-ness out of the fandom. It happened before with the Burned Furs, and it looks like it's happening again in some cases.
People tend to forget that there are large amounts of minors here and that there's been a lot of influxes too. I kinda wish people kept it more private and not so public and in everyone's faces... I don't mind what people do, because why should I? Overall I wish people were more considerate of others.

Frankly I think that family-friendly cons are a bad idea, there's always going to be people who are creepy at any con and enforcing a strict 18+ age limit helps avoid any moral / legal issues that could arise out of actions at events. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable sending a kid to a furry con, even if it was marketed as all ages. What FC did by advertising a NSFW panel during an event attended by minors was in my opinion fundamentally wrong - even if they didn't see the content, the title and description could have caused issues on its own.

The biggest thing I've come to understand is that since the Furry Fandom has adults in it, like any other fandom, the adults are going to want to do adult things. The same happens to literally any show, movie or game that has fans. I dare you to find one that has adult fans and doesn't have any NSFW associated with it.
I think the biggest problem is that even adults will think stuff like yiff is weird, and counts as z**philia, and they will associate sfw furries with those who draw nsfw, even if the art they see is minimum. As an asexual furry, I would try to tell people that I’m not into that stuff and there’s a clean side to the fandom, but they always go on a rant and even bring up how they were traumatized as kids due to furries assaulting them, which, I’m really sorry about, but they generalized us. Actually, I’ve been noticing a pattern where commentors would bring up the reasons why they hate us are: 1. They can’t differentiate yiff from z**philia, which, is understandable but at the same time, there’s still a major difference. 2. They assume all of us are deviant and r**ey, and had a bad childhood that caused that assumption. 3. They simply don’t understand us and follow the trend of hating furries, even if it means sending death threats. Number 2 is a pattern, at least in my experience. I think an interesting video idea would be discussing when deviancy goes too far, and how that directly affects the public. However, I think I know why it happens: Kids grow up watching anthro-based content, and there are many furries who start out young. And with every fandom popular with children, there are creeps. The creeps may not even be into the concept of the fandom, but they try to lure kids in with the same hobbies. Now, I know the majority of furries aren’t like this, but I DO think that part of the fandom needs to be addressed. I apologize if it’s too much for you, but it’s just something I’ve noticed constantly with non-furs/anti-furs. They could be trolling, but people usually don’t make up stuff like this, and it’s certainly not a subject to be taken lightly. Maybe there are adult furs who are inappropriate and should be addressed and prevented from interacting with kids somehow? You don’t have to do this topic. I know it’s uncomfortable, but again, this has been a recurring thing I’ve noticed.

I roll my eyes every time I hear someone say it’s not all sexual. So much of it is sexual it’s a major part, to ignore its existence for PR is an absolute failure. It isn’t everything and it’s not the primary motive for most people, but it’s most certainly prevalent. Just be careful who your kids watch or talk to, I’ve meet some people who are behind bars for good reasons now. Be weary, be safe.

@@deltafox757 In the case of Ef I understand the anger because Ef has some of the strictest rules of what you are allowed to wear/do at the convention space that i've ever seen... I find it quite weird, that there is no such age restriction for other cons where you can see people running around in fetish gear from time to time, which is something that you shouldn't show to children, and that thus can lead to tose children being creeped out of the fandom. I think the best way to deal with age restriction is to make it fitting to the conventions rules, so when you have verry strict restriction you can let people under 18 attend and if not then it would be 18+. But then again this isn't Ef's choice but much rather are they restricted by the german law.

So obviously, as someone who is under the age of 18, I haven't been directly exposed to that side of the fandom. (Directly as in actively seen and/or participated in it) Yet I still feel like people are downplaying the amount of sexual content in the fandom considering half of the Twitter accounts I see suggested to me have 🔞 in their names, but I think that's because people are scared of what the general public will think, especially since a lot of it is LGBTQ+, because 1. A lot of the general public already has "all the furries are sex maniacs" mindset, and 2. A lot of the general public are rather... squirmish when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. I'm pretty sure furries are just saying a very small percent of furries are into the adult side of the fandom because they want the general public to think that, not other furries. I still think that it would be better to just be honest about it being a bigger part of the fandom to try to spread awareness that sexuality and sexual stuff is ok (as long as it's between consenting adults), like we already do in the fandom, instead of just hiding that away from everyone else.
For me, it’s because with a fursona you’re a lot more free to use your imagination. So all those sexual back room doors we often keep shut because they’re unrealistic, awkward or embarrassing, or inexperienced with are suddenly accessible. Through art and exploration you’re able to accept new things about you easier because it’s almost like having a friend there with you who’s just as new to this stuff or better; into it too. Obviously within ethical reason.
great video beta and I completely agree with your view here, but I'd recommend changing the title to something which would cue in kids and parents to the bigger message the video gives -- something like "parents, be aware of young furry viewing", or "understanding and approaching sexuality in the fandom" or something like that.

Ahhh. all the respect for this. I will admit i haven't watched many of your videos but that's mainly because I somewhat avoid furry you tube in general. But this is because I don't like seeing all of the overly suggestive content on youtube. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind it. I'm all over it on twitter. But when I see it on TH-cam it's from people who have a very large percentage of minors following and looking up to them and it makes me kinda uncomfortable knowing that minors are watching that and being unexpectedly exposed to that type of content. So I wanted to leave my own input in this. As someone who is also a content creator I 100% follow basically everything you said in this video. As a content creator In hopes of the future if the fandom I don't curse, nor do I say anything over PG-13 because I wanna set a fine example for younger furs that their parents would be fine watching my content. There is a time and a place when people can be "frisky" And I 100% love how the fandom is so enlighting about sexuality I appreciate the fandom as a safe haven so to speak! Honestly, after re watching this video and taking some time to think about it, I think I get what Beta is saying. But the thing is... The people who went to that convention prob went there for that nsfw event because that was a big event and a place were they finaly could and knew they could purchase this adult content. Eitherway, one furry convention is not a good representation of all furries.

Since this fandom has grown so large even a multiple thousand people aren't of any significant statistical importance. Edit: this is also called Anecdotal evidence.
That is true, its too small a sample, but half of the attendees as a decently big convention would suggest a higher amount are interested in the nsfw. It still needs to be confirmed, but if it was only 3%, the liklihood that half the sample (being the attentees) attending this event is very slim

@Garett Crook I'm not someone who tries to deny that furries are sexual, really I couldn't care less about what people do in their spare time. I am just talking about the statistical side here. I don't considder furscience to be actually representative of the fandom. The full substance of the survey was built over multiple years, which means that if there was a change in demographics over the years where the survey took place it would be washed out. Also the number of partisipants is still relatively low, compared to attendance numbers of major conventions. Also the ARP had its last surveys on 2017 (if i saw that corectly) so its also not really up to date.

Honestly I dont know of a lot of surveys in the fandom but if there are so many then thay can definately paint a picture. Edit: the point that I wanted to make was, that you shouldn't assume something about a group of people just because of anecdotal evidence, but if those surveys exist and they all show the same results you can ofcourse be assured, that they cant all be wrong.

As a murrsuiter (I go by a different murrsuit name), it's hard. I gatekeep because yes, I'm open NSFW, but minors aren't welcome in any of my NSFW spaces. Sometimes it does slip. I've been in murrsuit chats where children do slip by, and we have to make sure they get out, even after initially making the rules clear that they don't belong there. It's just hard. We wanna have fun, but in an organized manner where adults, not children, can engage in 18+ content and consume material they enjoy. So yes, we harsh on children. It's literally because they know the rules, and they refuse to listen. Having a minor in an NSFW space and allowing that is not only illegal, but it jeopardizes everyone involved and ruins the fun.
As a malaysian youngfur, Malaysia I think has a good environment for pg 13 fur cons. Malaysia in and of itself as country is strict about sexual content. Technically last year I was finally going to go to my first Fur con but due to covid it didn't happen, which is kinda sad.

Odin Wolf has recently done this video series where he discusses some of the most "taboo"/extreme sexual fetishes in the furry fandom, which is really worrying to me because i know how young his fanbase is (judging from his comments especially). I love odin a lot and am a big fan but worry about his younger fans seeing them idk , coz it is discussing sexually explicit content and almost promoting it . No hate to him at all of course, or trying to "cancel" him, just something ive been worried about . he's talked openly about his sexual history previously and can make whatever he wants, but sometimes it just rlly rubs me the wrong way . has anyone else felt this ?
people in the comments are like "human sexuality is normal, it's all over the internet"...... yes but the problem is other fandoms can keep it to themselves and control themselves, but this one, you go to the homepage of FurAffinity, even with the default "sfw" mode on and you'll always see tons of fetish art. there is a disproportionate amount of it and you CANNOT hide from it.
Honestly, as someone who's been rather shy and deals with intensive social anxiety, the furry fandom helps me with how openly it accepts sexuality. It helps me accept myself and learn to be more open with my partners, something I would have had a much more rough time with had the furry fandom not exist. It's helped my social anxiety in every way, honestly! I will cherish the day I get to go to my first con with my friends.

As someone who has worked with the young furs meets at anthrocon for the past two years (I ended up running half of 2019s when we had to split up), I know firsthand of whats up. The reason we had to split up was because the amount of attendees to the meetup had increased so much, the room couldnt fit them anymore! I would be fine if adult activities went on behind closed doors or in designated areas, but the sheer amount of people in outright fetish gear, in daylight, in the public streets of pittsburgh not only gives us a bad name, but also exposes children--not teens, children--to nsfw content. On top of that, the dealers den is chock full of poorly covered pornographic material I've had so many kids accidentally stumble upon.
Yes, I always will appeeciate the openness of this wonderful fandom, but I think that we have a duty as a group to protect the pups who are trying to find a place. We were all there once; we all found a sense of community here. Why would we want to take that away from others by scarring off their parents and possibly traumatizing the children? (My 12 year old brother did NOT need to see a half naked man in bondage gear waltzing about at noon)
If you're still reading this, when conventions start up again, I implore you to just keep an eye on the young furs. There is an admittedly disproportionate amount of pedophilia going around and the amount of times I've had these kids have told me they had to get security because some asshole was creeping on them is astonishing. I feel like part of the reason the fandom is like this could be because (from what I've seen) our fandom is much more open to sexual content and fetishes than other fandoms.
I'm okay with it, adults can choose to do whatever, but I wish the fandom could be more thoughtful of others (like the minors in the fandom) before being so public about their kinks
I think the problem really stems from what people consider NSFW, I really feel that moving soft-core fetish art to a separate section is what we need to move toward.

@@SAMO_1977 I think the problem is that were seeing it as a something bad, so the people that prefer things that are risque are feeling oppressed and acting offensively defensive about it. A lot of people are pushing for the sexuality of the fandom to be erased, and a lot of people don't want that. Especially because part of what made the fandom so diverse in sexuality in the first place is that lack of fear of the subject. So some people see pushing sexual themes out of the fandom as a slipperly slope to pushing LGBTQ-ness out of the fandom. It happened before with the Burned Furs, and it looks like it's happening again in some cases.

Frankly I think that family-friendly cons are a bad idea, there's always going to be people who are creepy at any con and enforcing a strict 18+ age limit helps avoid any moral / legal issues that could arise out of actions at events. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable sending a kid to a furry con, even if it was marketed as all ages. What FC did by advertising a NSFW panel during an event attended by minors was in my opinion fundamentally wrong - even if they didn't see the content, the title and description could have caused issues on its own.

The biggest thing I've come to understand is that since the Furry Fandom has adults in it, like any other fandom, the adults are going to want to do adult things. The same happens to literally any show, movie or game that has fans. I dare you to find one that has adult fans and doesn't have any NSFW associated with it.
I think the biggest problem is that even adults will think stuff like yiff is weird, and counts as z**philia, and they will associate sfw furries with those who draw nsfw, even if the art they see is minimum. As an asexual furry, I would try to tell people that I’m not into that stuff and there’s a clean side to the fandom, but they always go on a rant and even bring up how they were traumatized as kids due to furries assaulting them, which, I’m really sorry about, but they generalized us. Actually, I’ve been noticing a pattern where commentors would bring up the reasons why they hate us are:
1. They can’t differentiate yiff from z**philia, which, is understandable but at the same time, there’s still a major difference.
2. They assume all of us are deviant and r**ey, and had a bad childhood that caused that assumption.
3. They simply don’t understand us and follow the trend of hating furries, even if it means sending death threats.
Number 2 is a pattern, at least in my experience.
I think an interesting video idea would be discussing when deviancy goes too far, and how that directly affects the public. However, I think I know why it happens:
Kids grow up watching anthro-based content, and there are many furries who start out young. And with every fandom popular with children, there are creeps. The creeps may not even be into the concept of the fandom, but they try to lure kids in with the same hobbies. Now, I know the majority of furries aren’t like this, but I DO think that part of the fandom needs to be addressed.
I apologize if it’s too much for you, but it’s just something I’ve noticed constantly with non-furs/anti-furs. They could be trolling, but people usually don’t make up stuff like this, and it’s certainly not a subject to be taken lightly. Maybe there are adult furs who are inappropriate and should be addressed and prevented from interacting with kids somehow?

@@deltafox757 In the case of Ef I understand the anger because Ef has some of the strictest rules of what you are allowed to wear/do at the convention space that i've ever seen... I find it quite weird, that there is no such age restriction for other cons where you can see people running around in fetish gear from time to time, which is something that you shouldn't show to children, and that thus can lead to tose children being creeped out of the fandom. I think the best way to deal with age restriction is to make it fitting to the conventions rules, so when you have verry strict restriction you can let people under 18 attend and if not then it would be 18+. But then again this isn't Ef's choice but much rather are they restricted by the german law.

So obviously, as someone who is under the age of 18, I haven't been directly exposed to that side of the fandom. (Directly as in actively seen and/or participated in it) Yet I still feel like people are downplaying the amount of sexual content in the fandom considering half of the Twitter accounts I see suggested to me have 🔞 in their names, but I think that's because people are scared of what the general public will think, especially since a lot of it is LGBTQ+, because 1. A lot of the general public already has "all the furries are sex maniacs" mindset, and 2. A lot of the general public are rather... squirmish when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. I'm pretty sure furries are just saying a very small percent of furries are into the adult side of the fandom because they want the general public to think that, not other furries. I still think that it would be better to just be honest about it being a bigger part of the fandom to try to spread awareness that sexuality and sexual stuff is ok (as long as it's between consenting adults), like we already do in the fandom, instead of just hiding that away from everyone else.

For me, it’s because with a fursona you’re a lot more free to use your imagination. So all those sexual back room doors we often keep shut because they’re unrealistic, awkward or embarrassing, or inexperienced with are suddenly accessible. Ahhh. all the respect for this. I will admit i haven't watched many of your videos but that's mainly because I somewhat avoid furry you tube in general. But this is because I don't like seeing all of the overly suggestive content on youtube. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind it. I'm all over it on twitter. But when I see it on TH-cam it's from people who have a very large percentage of minors following and looking up to them and it makes me kinda uncomfortable knowing that minors are watching that and being unexpectedly exposed to that type of content. But the thing is... The people who went to that convention prob went there for that nsfw event because that was a big event and a place were they finaly could and knew they could purchase this adult content. Eitherway, one furry convention is not a good representation of all furries.
8:29 Just because over half of the attendance of said convention went to this particular 18+ event doesen't have to mean, that not just a small percentage of the fandom isn't sexual. Since this fandom has grown so large even a multiple thousand people aren't of any significant statistical importance.

That is true, its too small a sample, but half of the attendees as a decently big convention would suggest a higher amount are interested in the nsfw. It still needs to be confirmed, but if it was only 3%, the liklihood that half the sample (being the attentees) attending this event is very slim

@Garett Crook I'm not someone who tries to deny that furries are sexual, really I couldn't care less about what people do in their spare time. I am just talking about the statistical side here. I don't considder furscience to be actually representative of the fandom. The full substance of the survey was built over multiple years, which means that if there was a change in demographics over the years where the survey took place it would be washed out. Also the number of partisipants is still relatively low, compared to attendance numbers of major conventions. Also the ARP had its last surveys on 2017 (if i saw that corectly) so its also not really up to date.
@Garett Crook Yea you are probably right... I think in the end we can agree, that as long as you dont ask literally everyone in this fandom there is always going to be a certain margain of error. Honestly I dont know of a lot of surveys in the fandom but if there are so many then thay can definately paint a picture.
Edit: the point that I wanted to make was, that you shouldn't assume something about a group of people just because of anecdotal evidence, but if those surveys exist and they all show the same results you can ofcourse be assured, that they cant all be wrong.

As a murrsuiter (I go by a different murrsuit name), it's hard. I gatekeep because yes, I'm open NSFW, but minors aren't welcome in any of my NSFW spaces. Sometimes it does slip. I've been in murrsuit chats where children do slip by, and we have to make sure they get out, even after initially making the rules clear that they don't belong there. It's just hard. We wanna have fun, but in an organized manner where adults, not children, can engage in 18+ content and consume material they enjoy. So yes, we harsh on children. It's literally because they know the rules, and they refuse to listen. Having a minor in an NSFW space and allowing that is not only illegal, but it jeopardizes everyone involved and ruins the fun.
As a malaysian youngfur, Malaysia I think has a good environment for pg 13 fur cons. Malaysia in and of itself as country is strict about sexual content. Technically last year I was finally going to go to my first Fur con but due to covid it didn't happen, which is kinda sad.

Odin Wolf has recently done this video series where he discusses some of the most "taboo"/extreme sexual fetishes in the furry fandom, which is really worrying to me because i know how young his fanbase is (judging from his comments especially). I love odin a lot and am a big fan but worry about his younger fans seeing them idk , coz it is discussing sexually explicit content and almost promoting it . No hate to him at all of course, or trying to "cancel" him, just something ive been worried about . he's talked openly about his sexual history previously and can make whatever he wants, but sometimes it just rlly rubs me the wrong way . has anyone else felt this ?

Honestly, as someone who's been rather shy and deals with intensive social anxiety, the furry fandom helps me with how openly it accepts sexuality. It helps me accept myself and learn to be more open with my partners, something I would have had a much more rough time with had the furry fandom not exist.
It's helped my social anxiety in every way, honestly! I will cherish the day I get to go to my first con with my friends.

Im really gald to talked about this. Im 14 and have been in the furry fandom sense i was like 7 or 8 and did not know there was NFSW part untill I was 12. That hit hard, After i found out about this a bunch of people at my school kept saying was part of the nfsw but I wasn´t. Ive even seen a few furrys say the 13+ and 18+ isnt safe for the furry fandom. I have never been so disgusted my adults by asking a 14 YEAR OLD if I have done something ¨sexual¨ in the furry fandom or fursuit. I was in shock for so long after that. If also been told that if there 18+ then there 18+ there adults and if they wanna be sexual they will. You cant really stop them.
