I really enjoy the early Stan Lee Fantastic Four. Issues 48-51 are some of Marvel best ever comics. It may not be a great place to start, but for us Silver Age nuts it is must read stuff.
Grant Morrison absolutely loves writing super heroes. Some guys across the pond like Garth Ennis hate superheroes, but Morrison is a huge fan of superheroes and their entire history. So much so he wrote a non-fiction autobiographical book about his love of them called Supergods: What Masked Vigilantes, Miraculous Mutants, and a Sun God from Smallville Can Teach Us About Being Human. He's just more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy. He's written very little Marvel stuff with the exception of his run on New X-Men and his Marvel Boy and FF mini-series. Some of the best superhero comics ever written like All- Star Superman and Animal Man and Doom Patrol and (my favorite) Flex Mentallo were written by Morrison. Also a few years back he wrote his own version of DC's alternate Earths called Multiversity that is probably the best DC superhero comics of the last ten years.
These two videos have been amazing! I've been collecting comics on and off for 25+ years and have been into collected editions for 2 years (after taking a long spell off comics prior). So having a video like this touching on great reads from each title is just fantastic. You always see "best of " or "top tens" but I'll I need is just a good "hey I liked this book you should try it out" it's complicated just trying to figure out if you can just jump right into a book and these last two video have just done a great job explaining everything. I own about half the books , but I won't lie I had to get a note book out to write down the titles I'm missing too. Anyway it was a very big help. Big thanks to you for making it and John for coming up with the idea.

I should add that after watching your video on dc absolutes to own I finally decided to add the Preacher absolutes to my collection. I won't lie I was a little apprehensive and wasn't sure that I would like the books but wow was I wrong. They are such gorgeous books and build quality is insane. This coupled with the fact that they are an awesome read have put them up there with my favourite books that I own. Many thanks for that recommendation 👍😃.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here but isn't X-Men heavily inspired or even taken from Doom Patrol? I'm more of a DC guy myself due to their longer history and with characters or teams that have come before many of Marvel's. I do understand many creations were inspired or taken from others though. Deadpool for example taken from Deathstroke, etc.
that's interesting, can you elaborate on that? I've never heard that before! I've never heard the Deadpool example either. I'm very interested in any kind of inspiration marvel got from DC!
@@OmnidogsVault Yeah, I thought you might know more about it, wasn't sure. According to my research Doom Patrol appeared slightly before X-Men. Some say there's many similarities that point to that being the case, others say it's mere coincidence. I'm not really familiar enough with either to say one way or the other. Deathstroke appeared in 1980- Slade Wilson. Deadpool in 1991- Wade Wilson. Both have similar appearances, both are mercenaries, etc. That one to me seems the more obvious one. There's a few other examples like this- Thanos similar to Darkseid, Darkseid appeared first of course. Either way I don't take it too seriously, as both DC and Marvel took inspirations from each other over the years and characters become their own. Also Batman, my favorite character of all time, is of course heavily inspired by Zorro and The Shadow.
Omnidog's Vault ~Namor debuted in 1939, a year before Aquaman. And then theres the Swamp Thing/Man-Thing conundrum. Len Wein created Swampy at DC in 1971. Gerry Conway created Manny at Marvel the same year. The characters debuted at their respective companies a month apart. Fun fact:Wein and Conway were roommates at the time of their characters' conceptions.
