Totally agree with your description of Dalston Mill - stepping from a tiny front entrance into a vast world of fabric behind!

Thanks for taking the time to share this great view of what it is like to actually visit shops that I had definitely heard of but never been to myself.

Nice print you are wearing and the dress on mannequin behind.
I particularly like the prints you bought. The little orange flowers on white background , the bold pink zebra type.

Thank you for the video. You have to visit Walthamstow Market (London). We have here like 10 fabric shops all on one street. On Saturday there is also person coming to the market with fabric stall. I bought from him Japanese cotton, really lovely quality and print.

I grew up near Walthamstow!! Nan used to take us to the markets most weekends when we were kids! Amazing that they're still going, I'm definitely going to plan a visit 😍

Love, love, love seeing this. I also live in a rural area (in the US) and have only 1 small store to get to.

TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH GINA SWEETIE, I LOVE THE FABRIC YOU CHOSE. ALL THE PRETTY LIGHT COLORED SMALL FLOWERY PRINT FABRICS ARE PERFECT FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE LOOK OF BEING IN A LOVELY SUNNY COUNTRY MEDDOW WITH DAISYS AND BUTTERFLIES ALL AROUND. YOU HAVE THAT STYLE FLAVOR. NOW, ORANGEY-RED TYPE OF FABRIC WOULD LOOK NICE, BUT IT DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF OUTFIT YOU MAKE OF IT. I SEE A NICE PANTSUIT, WITH A SHORT, BALERO STYLE JACKET (DOUBLE BREASTED) TO GO WITH IT. I USED TO WORK IN RETAIL BACK IN THE DAY AS AN ASSOCIATE.

YOU KNOW WHAT? ONE THING I LEARNED SINCE I GOT BACK INTO SEWING (I JUST GOT BACK INTO THIS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO BACK IN JANUARY MY BOYFRIEND BROUGHT ME A SEWING MACHINE, A SINGER HD 4411. I AM 63 AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO GET BACK INTO SEWING. TOOK SEWING IN HIGH SCHOOL AND ALWAYS WANTED TO GET BACK INTO IT) I NOTICED, IT'S BEST TO GET THE WINTER FABRICS DURING THE SUMMMER BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER. I BROUGHT SOME SHERPA FABRIC AT 8.00 PER YARD AT JOANN'S FABRICS. SO YEAH, WINTER FABRICS, GET IT NOW WHILE IT'S CHEAP!

Gina i loved this! Thank you. I went to Rainbow Fabrics for the first time the last Bank Holiday and it was closed 😭even though I had checked online beforehand, so I’ll definitely be going again soon. And I just discovered the New Craft House thanks to someone on Instagram, so I’ll definitely be going there soon also. And I’m always in Dalston but haven’t been to the Mill in years (it looks so different), so thanks for whetting my appetite again. 🤣😆🤗 I’m so excited........ Only a fellow sewist can relate. 😂

Rainbow fabrics is such a gem...I picked up the green floral satin and the blue and lime animal satin. That orange linen is so pretty, must have missed that one.

They have such gorgeous fabrics don't they?! Ooh amazing, what are you planning on making with them? I don't think he has the orange linen online, I'll ask him because there was quite a bit left on the roll ❤️

Thank you for the nudge to Craft House and Rainbow Fabrics. How did I miss having these on my radar??
I nearly visited Dalston Mill recently but good job I didn’t go, I hadn’t realised how huge it was!
I did a maaaaasive fabric haul in Hong Kong and like you I couldn’t bring it all back home and had my sister bring it to me 🙈. I’ve not seen in ages so I’m meant to be on a fabric buying moratorium but a couple of pieces have snuck in .. (how did that happen?!) 😂
New to your channel and enjoying it 😊

If you ever visit Berlin, Germany, you need to visit the market at Maybachufer "Türkenmarkt". You get fabrics for a bargain like 2 to 5 Euros. There are 2 other markets where you get fabrics for 1 Euro, but they are mostly not so good quality, one is called "Crellemarkt".

Gorgeous selection - I'm looking forward to Part II when you next visit your sister 😄
Can't wait to see what you make with them!
Next time you're in the Dalston/Hackney area, try Woolcrest Textiles (a 25 min walk from Dalston Mill) - it's a cavernous warehouse with some really well-priced gems (cash only).

Hi Gina, only just found you on you tube and I love your videos. I am a good sewer but not good at fitting myself or altering patterns. I live in Spain now and can't find any really good places to get fabric so I have to shop on line. One question I have is that I always stay clear of viscos because in the past I found it creases too much. I can't do all that sewing and then hate to wear it because it creases. You seam to buy a lot ie, viscos linen etc. can you tell me does it still crese or has it got better. I am also looking for the printed broad anglaise gthat you hadon your video at the stich festival. I think the stall was Roys but they don't sell on line. Can you tell me where I can get some from on line. Thank you Gwen
PS. I made my beautiful wedding dress and I still have it and love it. So do make your own, no one will have one like it.

Hi Gwen thank you so much for watching! Honestly it all depends on the viscose, I tend to go for a viscose challis (the smooth, soft type) it doesn't crease as much as viscose crepes and even if it does crease I found it falls out as you stand up and move about because it's slightly heavier in weight than the viscose crepe too. Viscose linen does have a natural crease which at first I hated but have grown to love! Hope that all helps ❤️
