    a video that every aspiring developer should watch❤
    "Maybe not now, not tomorrow, but I will make sure I will be a professional developer someday!"
    I will be back to this comment when I'm a developer.

    Regarding bootcamps, the concept is to grasp the basics. Comparing the bootcamp metaphor to the military: there is no job in the military that only requires completing bootcamp. Everyone that completes bootcamp will then go on to learn something specific.

    I liked that free code camp listened and made amazing updates. It now feels a lot more real-world environment than just a training environment. I didn't build my skills in graphic design overnight, but I see the same learning process here, and the fact that I recognize that helps tremendously. The only way you truly learn is by receiving a real problem and having to figure out how to make it happen. I learned more that way in graphic design than I ever did in school. This has aided me in my journey and kept me from giving up a couple of times.

    I am on a 2-3 year journey to professional development and I TRULY appreciate the inspiration that this episode has provided. Every popular article I've ever seem to come across always says something about "it only took 3 months" and tbh, that made me burn out.

      I'm glad to hear that. Yeah I remember seeing Chris Sean's video when I was trying to become a developer. He mentioned that he got a job within 3 months. I know the feeling. No one wants to talk about how it took them years to become a developer and we often get these instagram-like stories of people just sharing the happy paths.

    I watched this because I was hoarding sources to learning for so long, and im new to this and I thought to myself, I have to keep it friggin simple and focus on one thing at the time and just start with something and stick to it, so I started with the courses on fcc and I love it. I think it's great so far! Almost complete two courses. I also have a bachelor's in another subject from Uni (haha), but want to become a dev. Thanks guys! f

    I’m a month into learning code. free code camp is where I started & it’s been great so far. I feel like I’ve learned so much in such a short time and I’m just scratching the surface. It’s definitely an exciting journey. I’d like to one day get a cool job coding everyday. Best of luck to everyone out there learning in this field.

    Another great video. I got another call from a career advisor from Woz U (Wozniak University) today. She was SUPER antagonistic. Spent the first 3-4 minutes trying to discredit the validity of reviews in general. Tried to compare their reviews to that of Disneyland? Implying that anymore criticising Disneyland is lying or something.
    When I brought up Wozniak not being involved anymore, she got even more triggered and went back to the Disney comparison. Basically said Walt Disney is dead and the company is doing just fine.
    Please, Don, find people from this program for a panel. I'm so curious about the ACTUAL experience and curriculum.

      That sounds like a pretty bad way to respond to your concerns about the feedback you found. I'd be skeptical if they didn't acknowledge, even a single negative review. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi Don, I love these videos. I recently stumbled upon your videos and these are so helpful to stay motivated. I've struggled for years to take the leap of faith and dedicate my free time to learning to code. I'm ironically using freeCodecamp as of right now and it's been a great experience so far. I started about 2 weeks ago and normally I would have stopped after the first few days. Videos like these have kept my inspired and motivated to keep pushing through and know that changing my life without college or a bootcamp is totally possible if I just put the effort in. I think when I feel like I need more content, I will probably try out Teamtreehouse.

    I agree with you about teaching NoSQL databases to beginners. It's not ideal. But from a different perspective. You can create "relations" in MongoDB and structure your data as if it is a bunch of tables with relations and keys. If you take a certain approach, a MongoDB collection is like a table, and you can link a field to another collection. Then it's just about learning an ORM like mongoose, and you just won't be learning SQL.
    Otherwise, learning MongoDB is not really learning anything except a way to store a blob of JSON into a file.

    • @DonTheDeveloper
      @DonTheDeveloper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you're saying. Technically you're right. You can create MongoDB's form of relationships, but to me it's similar to the idea of learning "classes" in JavaScript. You can technically create classes in JavaScript, but if your goal is to get a more fundamental understanding of object-oriented programming, there are better languages to start with.
      To your point, it's not the worst thing in the world if you have to learn MongoDB first, but it's not ideal.
