So refreshing. Whilst I appreciate I have lots of hangups when using armature. You've really dispelled some myths and increased my confidence. Thank you
This was very helpful. When I made your Angus PDF, I thought my wire was too flimsy, so I added pipe cleaners all over the wire and it has become my favorite way to make the armature. Thank you for your spectacular videos!
This was helpful. I'm still struggling with the ends of wrapping wires, but it'll just take more practice. Love your little out takes a the the end of this video.
This is wonderful, thank you! I'm hoping to make some little critters for my granddaughters for Christmas, I've never done anything like this before so I'll have a head start!
I get excited to see your channel growing! You deserve all the success in the world! You seem to be such a lovely, talented lady! Thanks so much for sharing with us all this helpful information. Because of you, I brought felting material and already crafted three little pieces that came out nicely. Can wait to start my spring break to do to some more felting, following along your videos! Have a wonderful day!
Wow and thank you, I'm really pleased you have started felting and I hope you are enjoying it. Your words are so kind and it's great knowing my videos are helpful, thanks again and take care 🙂
I had this problem last week. I've previously used paper covered wire and been fine but when I tried to use plain wire it kept winding undone. I don't have florist tape to hand but someone advised me to use micropore tape from the first aid kit and this worked a treat, no sticky residue on hands either!
I always learn from your videos and save them to rewatch. You present things in a methodical, yet fun, manner that I can follow. Thank you. A suggestion: getting correct dimensions and proportions is a very difficult area for me and perhaps others. Many of your fans don’t have the “eye” of an artist. Providing measurements more often would be helpful. I mess up proportions by pulling off too much core and the head I end up with is twice the size of yours and much too large for the body, so I often have to start over. Would it be far too work-intensive for you to provide a one time “basic sheep” (standardized) formula that includes weight of core and dimensions for various body parts? That is, 1 ounce of core for head, 3 ounces for body and 1 ounce per leg will give a fairly consistent 3x4 sheepie. We could then scale up from your basics. I know other factors influence a well proportioned sheep but at least we could start with a standard sheep (or whatever critter). Please just ignore this completely if it’s too much to ask-we will still ❤you!
Hi Barbara, yes, proportions is definitely a difficult thing especially in the beginning. I have done a video on how to measure out head, leg, body ratios, I will link it below. I do put all measurements in my PDF's and online courses, they are very thorough plus amounts of wool needed but on here I am mindful of having shorter videos to encourage a better click through rate and increased views and keep people watching. I will definitely take your suggestion forward and be mindful of measurements a bit more. At times I do think about it and promptly forget whilst videoing 😄. Thanks so much for watching and for a great comment xx th-cam.com/video/jnZ_Vjq5Sxs/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the great tips! 👍 The beeswax balm looks like a great product. I've been felting small birds and have a tip for making the legs and claws. If you wrap the wire with floristry tape first, you can then wrap a length of embroidery floss over the top to get a nice finish. The floss comes in a wide range of colours and sticks to the florists tape with only minimal felting needed. Looking forward to seeing Fabian Fox!
Oh, that's sounds so great, I will look up embroidery floss, bird legs are quite tricky so that's really helpful, glad you liked the video and fabian fox is nearly finished! X
No, not at all but it can really help, most of the time I don't, here's my video on problem solving with the wire x th-cam.com/video/6QQnY3_vVkA/w-d-xo.html
Beeswax is used in a lot of cuticle repair type things. So while it may make your hands a little sticky, at least it's helping them as well. Better than the glue stick! 🤣
You say you have a 1mm wire. Can you tell me what 22 gauge wire would be? I am use to using a 22 and 26 gauge wires. Not sure what 1 mm wire would convert to. Thanks
@@feltsbyphilippa Hi Pippa, where can I find the tutorial for the black cow please? I’m desperate to give it a go myself. Thanks in advance. Hugs from Yorkshire 🤗 🐄🤗 🐄
Hi, I think you mean the large cow at the end? I haven't done a pdf of him yet. All my PDF's are on Etsy, link in description. I am, as it happens, doing a large, realistic Highland cow online course but I will release a video when he is done, Thanks so much xx
I have found Philippa the best felting tutorials by far TX
Really glad you like them, thank you x
This was a wonderful video. Wire wrapping is my least favorite part of needle felting and these tips and tricks were so valuable. Thanks so much.
Glad you liked it, even pipe cleaners really help x
Extremely helpful tutorial… keeper keeper….thank you for sharing your knowledge…❤
You are so welcome! xx

No probs Jules, floral tape is really useful x

Thank you very much! It is very inspiring.

I don’t know why I feel so nervous about using a wire armature but I am. Thanks to your video I feel inspired to give it a try now ;)
That's good to hear, you just have to do it! X

Hi, newbie here. Do you always have to wrap something round the wire before felting??

Hi, 1mm wire is about 18 gauge x
Love the video
Thanks so much 😀🙏x
Does the needle not break when it hits the wire? I want to try something with wire but I am worried about breaking my needles.
If you use a thicker needle, say a 32 and then hold it lightly so you bounce off with practice you will be okay xx
did u make the cow's nose?
Yes just with wool
How kind of you to share your skills! How would you attach fishing line to hang felted object please?
I would probably sew it through quite deep, back up and knot through the top, when I do baubles I sew the ribbon on the top and it stays really well x
Question, do you need to use wire for the base of all animals or some or is it up to the person? Thanks for the great videos!
As the felts get bigger I move to wire but some people don't, they felt very firm though x
@@feltsbyphilippa Ah, I see. Thanks!
It is up to you but as I sell my felts I want them to be strong x
@@feltsbyphilippa Alrighty! So if you want a stronger structure it would be good to use some wire
Yes definitely x
Can you do a cow pdf? Not the highland cow...like a dairy cow. Thanks
Hopefully at some point, I'll definitely add it to the list, I do have a brief time lapse of a Longhorn Cow so it's similar shape x
Please do a tutorial on the cow /bull plaque pleeeaaasse
I am going to be doing it very soon, just waiting for supplies, it won't be long x
