This makes me think that this can be is a story that relates to the toxic netizens who are upset when idols are in relationships. When they are alone everyone is happy and loving. When they begin a relationship everyone becomes angry and fights with each other and makes life hard. When an idol enters a relationship the netizens become angry…they prefer the idols to be lonely while they themselves are happy. In the end, love yourself and do what suits you. Wonderful video, amazing song. V is so talented and his music is 🔥

Being alone, and being lonely is two different things. I think that's what V was trying to emphasize here.
This MV is ambiguous as heck so can be multifaceted and interpreted in so many ways, but it’s also a satire. This V’s dry humour is totally depicted to the max, he did say it’s a witty song about the and of friendship and the beginning of something else. This mv really has V’s sense of humour - dry, sarcastic with dark undertones and the smirk at the end is so Tae, his ‘gotchya’ face. Lol. Loved it. But for me the best takeaway was the song, the vocal gymnastics and the sound choir at the end. I can’t wait to see this performed live especially with the soul choir that backed him in the song. It will be such a great live.

Reading your comment made it click together in my head: of course! He can either choose to continue his long-time friendship as it is and feel alone and left out in a world where people are happy with their partners; or he can push the friendship into romance and be happy in his cocoon of love while the world quarrels and fights all around him. For a little while. Either way, it'll end the same, but he's basically living two lives at once as he decides which one to commit to.
I bet most of us can relate to that, if we recall a major decision we could see ahead of us. We knew it would change our lives, we weren't sure whether to grasp it or stick with the life we already knew, but we knew that once we did, we'd have to see it through to the end.
V's voice is amazing! He has a unique tone, classy style and timeless genre. The song is soo good, MV is hilariously perfect..

This is how i also interpret it
In the first scene we see him alone. So in reality now V is an artist whom we assume is single.
when he sees us ( the rest of the world) or (other artist at his age)
Some are in a relationship,others are married and in his eyes everyone seemed to be happy and showing off their affection which makes him feel lonely and dejected.
He was so focused on those around him he Lost himself in the process. That we see him dieing at the end.
So he is trying to tell us that at some point in his life he was so focused on things that were going on around him that he at some point lost himself.
In the second half: Now he has a partner which this time he focuses on ingnoring his surroundings. But he still died at the end.
So he tells us
The world around him was in chaos which are (small problems in every relationship) which he ignored. So you could see before he was hit by the car it was either when he turned around he now saw how their relationship could also get to that point or he he realizes in oreder to save their relationship he lost himself in the process hence he died agian.
He woke up again to himself . This time he is content so it his friendship ended so did his relationship but he ended up with himself meaning selflove is all what you have left at the end.
So the anthem is love yourself first and you will be content with or without a partner,ie his smirk at the end.

I LOVE Tae's vocals, his acting, and the MV creativity. Everything was outstanding. I really hope he pursues more acting projects especially romantic Kdramas because as seen with Love Wins All and now Friends, he is a natural and has great chemistry with his leading ladies.
The lyrics are clear cut about wanting to advance a longtime friendship to becoming a romantic relationship. However, the MV has so many possible interpretations.
1. The MV itself can be taken as don't depend on your relationship status to define your happiness. You have to be content with yourself rather than needing your love life to give you personal value.
2. It could also symbolize how idols keep their private life hidden so they don't get fan backlash. At first he was alone and everyone else aka the fans were happy. Then he is happy in love with his girlfriend and everyone else aka the fans are unhappy. In either case their being oblivious to his needs causes him extreme harm.
3. Another possibility is that he was trying to decide if he should pursue a relationship and each time it ended the same in his dream because the issue is unresolved. In the end he wakes up next to himself because he's still debating how he wants his life to go in this area. A visual representation of weighing the pros and cons of a potentially life changing decision.
4. The smirk at the end could just be Tae looking forward to the theories he knows the fandom will come up with. lol
I hope we get a Bangtan Bomb of the filming and he will share what the actual interpretation he intended was.

One reactor said that he thinks the death scene symbolises the end of friendship in either scenario of the MV.
He is happier/smiling in the second death scene because the friendship died as they became lovers, unlike in the first case. In the first case, friendship died because his feelings have turned to love but they did not become lovers.
The final part shows that in the end yourself is your own friend. And his smile is for the Army who he has kept guessing and thinking and theorizing about the plot and meaning or message of his MV. He just loves to give us something to think about. Love this!

Always loved how you present your reactions/analysis. And, you're right...only V can do it!!! Surely, he is part of the visuals/creative concept of this MV. That's why most of his followers are mainly attracted to how he thinks. Sapiosexuals haha. That Oooh-oooh is fire, right? 😅. While on the mv, the scenes where he was all by himself / going with the flow and people around him were happy showed his routine as it pleases many. And, when he finally decided to pursue his own happiness/freedom ( ending a friendship to pursue love or whatever it is in general), people around him started to hate/fight/argue/bully and were even unbothered when something bad happened to him. It is a reality that’s happening especially in socmed where he sees/reads everything. Fandom, supporters, shippers, solos, and media are like feeding frenzy whenever idols are rumored to be dating, smoking, and the likes. It ruins the fantasy of a perfect image of their idols being pure and wholesome. Some idols even resort to self-destruction/taking own lives because of this pressure. Sad but this goes out to most if not all idols. I may be wrong but these are just my two cents. My interpretation is that in the first scenario, he's lonely but everyone else is happy because in the role of an his fans want him to be single. In the second scene he's with a woman and was seemingly happy but everyone else was unhappy because his fans don't want him to have a partner. I say seemingly happy because note that he has a smile on his face when he dies. So maybe he's saying yes to a relationship, but not a heterosexual one. In the final secene he wakes up to another man, represented by himself, and I interpret that as when he decided to be be true to himself, he found the person he loves and who loves him in return.
