Good old trick. Thanks for passing it along to any who didn't know - Been "eraser-ing contacts" for 40 years. The pink eraser works, the new vinyl type not so much( as in zero)

Also be aware that all memory cards have a life span, SD's in devices and also SSD's in laptops/PC's. They do not last forever and contact wear and physical damage are not always the point of failure.
Constant overwrites burn out the internal tracks within every card made. This can be seen most commonly on dashcams in cars, because they are constantly overwriting on a daily basis.
Check your dashcam's memory card is working correctly every few months, because if you don't you may have not been recording vital footage.

I have a mirrorview dashcam with a 64gigs sandisk sd card. After 3 or 4 months daily use (surveillance mode included), the sd card is dead, can not even format it. Not sure if the hot weather contributed to killing it.

@@nunoact I've had two fail from use in my dashcam, and I work nights as a taxi driver. So in the daytime its always hidden away in my garage in the cold north of England where the sun doesn't shine, so I don't think its temperature related, just constant re-writing damaging the internal circuit tracks.
Both were Kingston 32Gb cards, so not cheap and cheerful!

Yes Its scary. But one thing is really annoying they just die! Seems also there is huge differences between brands. Seems that sandisk the worst, already had 3 failed card, when Toshiba card works.
But I dont more trust any sd card. Mechanical harddrives seems last better, never had failed ssd but can you trust them either?

I tried it but I have an SD card with an adapter and it still didn't work. How would I go about fixing the SD card itself?

a "scratch brush" works well for this as well. I recommend picking one up to have around.

An abrasive isn't the best way to clean dirty contacts, a little bit of rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner will do the job without removing any of the contact surface. A very small amount on a Q tip should do the job.

where you see the abrasive? you think the rubber i s an abrasive?

Nonsens. Not per se = there are of course simple cases where contacts get corroded and it's OK to give it a try, if there's no other reason in sight. But thing is: these marvels do age with write load (just like an SSD, but much earlier), long usage beyond 80% of capacity and heat. It's quite the same with USB sticks and any other flash-based storage.
The moment ANY storage device gets unreliable it makes sense to IMMEDIATELY copy its content and then do thorough testing, if there's anything else going on!

Man... I just wanted to type that this is the dumbest video I ever saw. But. It worked. I was trying to read this sd card for like 15 years! I was like, Okay, there is the rubber on the pencil, and did the trick. I was able to read the SD (because it is still bad) with DiskDrill. Thank you :)
