Not a crochet machine, but a knitting machine. This one is the LK150 (Silver Reed). The cast on method is called the crochet cast on, using a latch hook.

When I get the machine out next I'm definitely giving this a go :) I showed this video to my mum and she was very impressed she said she's spent ages wasting wool and could of done this so much more easier. Keep checking Ebay (knitting machines/machine knitting), and you will come across a nice used knitting machine within your budget. A new Silver Reed LK150 cost about $440. The learning curve is not that difficult! The number of tutorial videos on YT is extensive. When I think of the cost of cosmetics today, it will not take you long to save up for one.
Oh thankyou very much! I can run up a video of the latch tool bind off/cast off on the lk 150 but there are videos on youtube of how to do this bind off using a different machine but the proccess it exactly the same. Hope this helps.

Hi where did you buy the brothers? We had one now but we lose a lot of parts I heard now you can buy it with digitized card reader will u let me know where it is available please? My parents used to do bonnets and booties for babies and i am interested to indulge in doing it also
The videos I have seen use the gate pegs which the LK150 doesn't have. The suggestion is to use the previous needle and I haven't seen this done effectively in a video. What bind off do you use on the LK150? Could you demonstrate your choices for this machine? Thanks again!
Hi, I'm so glad I found your videos. I am clueless in Phila with a machine I havent been able to work since my VCR tape broke soon after I brought it used about 7yrs ago. Can you show how to take a simple pattern say a cowl, show how to make ribbing and maybe a simple cable repeat across? I am trying to hand knit but my hands hurt so bad and it takes me so long. And maybe a simple hat pattern too? Thanks so much.. :-)))

+carotmytop You may be casting on too tight. Also the first row you knit after doing this is a bit harder to knit than the others after this.
