So basically all you need is a rear calliper rebuild ( You can get kits for around £20-30), and a set of discs and front pads? By the video I was expecting something catastrophic?
My E91 has the same issue, it has had a fair few brake calipers over its 140k miles of life - just part of E9X ownership - good reason to upgrade to a bigger brake kit
Rule 1 of maintaining any car, anything brake or suspension related, replace in pairs. I fitted F80 M3 brakes to mine and they are much better, rears are a straight fit and don’t suffer from the binding problem as much.
When I owned my e92 m3 I didn’t have problems with either part . I just had regular wear and tear brakes , a new battery, starter shit like that . I owned my e92 m3 for 4 years driving hard 6mt with no issues, I’m my opinion these kids are nowadays are just easily spooked . Not saying there isn’t an issue that exists , I’m just saying none of my guys whom all owned e92m3s ever had a problem with rod bearings or throttle actuators.
Not sure why you would continue to drive with a known fault like that. Have the brakes been flushed every two years? I suggest less complaining and more spanners.
Had an E92 M3 Comp 6MT but sold it. I could deal with the rod bearings and actuators but once the other issues started coming up: the vanos caps needing to be replaced or else could break apart causing catastrophic failure, the potential for the fuel injectors to cause hydro lock causing catastrophic failure, and then recent observations the main bearings can wear as bad as the rod bearings leading to you guessed it…catastrophic failure. Plus the valve covers needing to be replaced due to warping causing leaks and also the paint flaking off on the inside into the engine. Replacing those is $1k plus labor. Then they’re at the age where likely the suspension arms and bushes need to be replaced, especially the rear subframe if driven hard, diff leaks, all the little stuff needed for an old car. None of the parts on this car are cheap. Then throw in the mods you need to do for it to handle like a modern car such as decent coilovers and big brakes. Then CIC upgrade to add basic modern features like rear view camera and apple car play. And it still won’t have great audio quality since you have to use the aux port. Added all that up and was just like yeah the engine is amazing but is it worth it to do all that for a car that is ultimately too heavy and underpowered and easily out performed by a stock N55 M2 let alone a tuned one or M2 comp? It’s hard to justify for an engine/exhaust sound as glorious as it is.. For all that cost I could get into something much higher performing like an M2 Comp, Porsche, Supra, Lotus, etc. The e92 is really more of a GT car than a sports car. That’s why savagegeese hates on them because he says bmw put an awesome engine in an under serving chassis. Basically if you buy this car you have to be prepared for a $15k+ engine replacement or engine rebuild if you happen to catch a bearing spin in real time. And even if you do everything right it can still bite you. Just check out speed academy’s E90 M3 stat spin a bearing after 2 laps on track even after bearing replacement. It’s just a crapshoot with these cars and an expensive one. I wasn’t willing to go all in on this platform given the performance to risk ratio so sold it. Others mileage may vary.
Nearly brought one some years ago but needed something a little more practical so went fir brand new m140i. The older a car of this type gets the more likely the chances of issues.....expensive issues. If your going to get into these types of car then you should know its not gonna be issue free or cheap, it an enthusiasts car. Personally if i could i would but sadly i can't afford the issues and i simply dont have the space for a second car Love a E92 M3
Very annoying, i had this very same problem, luckily i have a very good mechanic who got out the caliper and serviced it and that was 2 years ago and still going strong..
Even if you don't need new pads of discs, your brakes should be taken apart and cleaned once or twice a year. This will prevent any binding and seized callipers.
Sorry but this video is straight up funny. Some british guy overstating how much of a problem it is to service his car's brakes. Oh no, what do we do now!
Err, warped rear discs won't shake the steering wheel, lol, that's something else (the warped front discs probably). And yea it seems you have (another) duff rear caliper, not worthy to most of an 18 min video, but very unlucky though!
No wonder its destroying fuel , god knows what its doing with a binding brake as they arnt great as it is , the same thing happened to my mates e92 M3 rear brakes binding 👍

Unless you have got the disc to near melting point they do not warp. What you are experiencing is pad material left on the disc face. This creates high spots which feel horrible through the brake pedal.
