I drove over to South Padre Island, and saw the whole thing! SO AMAZING! My first SpaceX launch! 1) WAY louder than I thought. lol 2) Sonic booms were also WAY louder also! 3) It all happens so fast! You watch it light up, and go, that flame coming out is insanely huge - then you're watching it go up, you see the gases when they separate - and you can see the ring - then you lose all of it for a few seconds, then it's coming back, and IT IS SCREAMING BACK TO EARTH! And it's caught! So amazing, and so proud of Elon and SpaceX. Congratulations!
Well when you combine this with all the boost back repulsive landings the Falcon boosters have performed, i could see how some people might see it as "old news" even though it is anything but old news.

you could see flames on the hinge of the flaps the very last time they showed it after booster catch. After that one the CH4 level dropped much faster than O2 and then lost telemetry.
I love your enthusiasm as you watched the catch live. Watching it on video is inspiring, I can't imagine how incredible it would be to witness in person. I hope to see it one day.
I was on South Padre Island watching - closest crowds could get on land - from the north. It was my first SpaceX anything. And omg videos online do not give it justice. Do your best to get here someday! It's so worth it! It was way louder than I thought! Especially the launch, as well as the sonic booms. And that booster flame on launch and catch were way brighter in person! I'm so much more impressed now! Deffo worth a trip - as just the other day, I was able to just drive up, and look at the booster and ship mated together. I was only like 2 or 3 hundred meters away - if that! NASA doesn't let you get anywhere near that close! So it's totally worth it to make a trip out of it. Bring the family, or friends or whatever ya got. Good times are possible, and it's not a waste coming down! Good luck, man! :)

2:37:26 Clearly shows a piece of the RHS Canard fly off. This is approximately 47 seconds after takeoff and coincides with the onboard footage where a small flap of the nose comes ajar. I’m surprised nobody else has noticed or commented.
This is the first flight for V2 Starship. It looks like it had a fuel issue and blew up, or they intentionally terminated it. Great catch for the Booster, though.

My best guess is that there was a malfunction on the Starship that was serious enough to trigger the flight termination system. The whole purpose of that system is to keep a giant Starship from coming down, in one piece, where someone might get hurt. But the booster did a great job! Thanks for your amazing coverage!
@@owendeyoung6917 As it turns out, my guess was correct. Starship lost all thrust. SpaceX lost telemetry. When the Starship was close to reentry, the automatic FTS was triggered. No, SpaceX did not know because they had lost telemetry. Scott Manley has an excellent video explaining this.

I hadn't noticed before but watching that replay of the IFT 5 booster catch the shock wave impacting and traveling across the ground IVO the tower from that elevated shot is crazy. Keep up the outstanding work Tim. Sadly I missed it live today so was glad to get the chance to sit and watch it uninterrupted in the wee hours this morning.
I went back and watched the launch part of the video - by your clock T+0:01:06/7 it looks like something comes off starship body near the lower edge of an upper flap and strikes the body of the booster near the flair just above the engines - maybe a tile came loose or something of that nature but it didn't look like something that was suppose to happen for sure.

i bet the problem was a fire onboard, if you look at the official stream there is a short view to the ship's aft flap right before the engines starting to cut out and telemetry is lost, and there are flames visible in the hinge area. it would also correspond with the rapid loss of methane.
Crazy how Blue met its mission of going to orbit but missed the landing of its 1st stage and SpaceX accomplished its 1st stage recovery but lost its space vehicle.
It would be so cool to pull the various videos of the break up of Starship, and use a neural network to construct a 3D model of the debris field and its trajectory.

It reaches 142 Km the cut off is at 150 so was almost there something went worn g maybe inside and hit a pipe and burst

If they terminated FTS they would of probably known instead of waiting to confirm
