No matter what i do i cant seem to get the half notes right. They just sound so out of place in the songs im practicing. Any tips?

I’m a ninth grade clarinet player Here’s a few tips on this
1. tap your foot to the beat of the music so for example in 4/4 time you tap your foot 4 times every measure so say you have a half note and two quarter notes the half note will get 2 beats and the the quarter note will get 1 beat each I know you probably already know this but I swear it helps I will feel weird at first but you’ll get used to it
2.listen to the song first that way you can get a feel for the song
3.some songs don’t sound right but if you play every thing with perfect counts it will sound good I could make a video on my channel for you about long tones which half isn’t long for me I have 2 whole note stringed together on some pieces but I can make a video on notes if you want just ask me to
