One thing I don't see mentioned here enough is how random new people would just show up in episodes. I'd fallen in love with the chemistry and entertainment of the original 6. You can't just replace and add people in there and expect me to love them. They wouldn't take the time to introduce them, warm me up to them so to speak. I remember an off topic episode where Geoff was yelling at the audience for not doing their research on who alfredo was he was suddenly showing up in let's plays. I shouldn't have to do research. It's your audience on your channel. I might like Alfredo but you can't be mad if I don't.
Fair point. I agree. You can't just throw in new people all the time and expect the audience to eat it up. My guess is, that some of the original crew understood the value that they're adding to the show. And then asked for a solid raise. And then RT opted in for new people who cost 10% of what the original crew charged. But of course that's just speculation. Who knows.
@@TheSneezingMonkey Also let's plays, people usually want a connection. It's not the content, it's the people. And as you said, Let's Plays generally is not as popular now as it once was (probably due to livestreams, and now youtube live is much better than it was, it's even easier for youtubers and their audience to connect in there). I worked with RT a decade ago, and never had any problems. But maybe that was just a good experience that was an anomalie.
I think the biggest thing is that the new personalities (and nothing against them) treat this as a job first. The old Achievement Hunter crew were all friends and it felt like just friends playing games. They didn’t have to try super hard to entertain us beyond coming up with video ideas. Now it just feels like coworkers all trying to be funny together and not friends just being themselves. The content has no heart. Too much corporate influence on them.
I feel that you might be missing a key reason for their steady decline. A few years ago now, I believe AH chose to aggressively pursue a much younger demographic (which is evident in their content feeling more 'silly' or character driven, as well as by looking at the way they design their thumbnails to attract younger viewers / gamers), and in doing so, AH alienated the fans they had attracted during their golden age (2012 to 2015). I think they saw a younger demographic as more lucrative and felt they could easily cater their content to this demographic by doubling-down on Minecraft videos, by hiring younger on camera talent, etc. This change in content felt too juvenile for many of their older fans, and so much of their original audience flocked to channels that catered to their humour and or interests (e.g. Funhaus). However, many years on, it appears that AH was unsuccessful in bringing in these younger fans. And by losing their older fans in the process, they are now slowly spiralling downward. Just my two cents :)

This is pretty spot on. Good catch. I also think that Trevor, Lindsay and Geoff made a decision to do that in a time where if you weren't kid friendly and you played video games... YT labeled you as a kids' channel regardless and it zapped your engagement and your ad revenue. So, they basically just appealed to the bad YT ad rules and hoped for the best. And... It didn't work out... Still to this day.
That's pretty accurate. I remember once i was watching a TTT video of theirs as i normally would when i wanted to turn my brain off. About half an hour in, i realised that none of the people I subscribed to the channel for were in that video and worse, i hadn't laughed once and at that point in most of the original crews videos, I'd be dying laughing (I'll define the original crew as Geoff, jack, gavin, Michael, Ray, Jeremy to an extent and the other one). I liked that crew because of their dramatic reactions, their banter and just all around shenanigans in games. Anyone who's seen their gta 4 lets plays knows what i mean. I flicked through a bunch of their recent videos at that time and it was the same story. I immediately unsubbed from all RT content i was subbed to, i pretty much exclusively watched AH but that moment of realisation is what led me to drop RT entirely. Only one i still watch is slow mo guys
It makes sense, as most people get older the age out of a.h content. Certainly did for me. I think the issue more is although they’ve altered towards a younger demographic they haven’t captured their interest

Shout out to Ray for having the future sight. He was ahead of the curve and saw things nobody else did at the time. In hindsight, everyone probably should have followed his route cause now it's too far past the point of no return.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just crashed and burned in the near future or just get shut down by WB-Discovery and RT’s most talented get scattered around the parent company. RT is probably seeing profits due to their massive layoffs and other things they’ve cut to make their numbers look good. It’s the method that the head of Discovery did to boost profits. It works but then you get garbage content

It could be from animation or just from cutting expenses either staff or the amount to produce content. It will probably take a year or two to see the end result of a restructure and success or breakup of the business as we know it.
About 6-12 months into the pandemic, I literally stopped watching/listening to the gaming channels of RT. Otherwise I did listen to their podcasts that they were pushing out until the shenanigans that happened a few months ago. If they do recover, it better be a f%$king miracle.
Their podcasts just became the same content week after week in 2020 and with screens. Thats why I just went onto other things. Nothing to do with this "drama" plus it's nothing new. This happened like 5 years ago...
How can Rooster Teeth attract new audiences? All of their best content is behind a pay wall. The reason the grew up so much to begin with is because their videos, podcasts and series where all available on TH-cam now if you want to go and watch something that interests you you have to go and pay for membership on their site. All you have on TH-cam is the 1st episode of a new series and then they ask you to go to their website pay to watch something that you found intrsting. But all it does is just turn people away. I think that if they don't change this they will never recover.
I think the formula has just broken down by this point. RT has maintained that image of a fun company where people come into work and make jokes and play games all day, and they've maintained it for a long while in their defence. I don't think there are enough people with the proper experience to manage MCN's efficiently yet. I always saw TH-cam as a door for "regular people" to use, to get into the entertainment industry on their own platform. Now it feels like it's just become a virtual Hollywood where you're going to have a really hard time simply pursuing a passion or interest, because you need to appease sponsors and meet contractual obligations etc. I'm more concerned about the platform as a whole now that the industry titans are collapsing.
This is a very cogent and apt summary I think. When they were first emerging there still was the landscape of youtube as the place you find weird videos, late 00s vlogger youtubers doing skits and 2010s rise of corporate sponsor souped up consumer guide TH-cam gurus / lifestyle. There were people who I remember watching who did post guides and playthrus of games (GamingPixie, ChuggaConroy etc) that it seemed like an obvious next layer of atmosphere like 'oh of course ! A big mst3k sized group just playing games, of course !' The landscape of youtube isnt super different now, but theres no pretense around it not being reshaped to allow tiktok to take up the mantle of early yt / tumblr. And the corporate presence on here and tiktok is the reason I'm sure, and I'm sure the thrill of being able to work in a context like AH / LP is the ouroboros of why things ended the way they did anyways.
My own reason for unsubscribing from RT & Let's Play was because the new personalities just weren't funny in videos. No disrespect to them, but they didn't have the same sort of chaotic synergy that the original AH Crew had. They had some funny moments, but overall the quality of humor went down. With or without the controversial topics, cursing, etc. I still watch compilations from the old days because they're still very entertaining. I think Rooster Teeth as a whole will continue to slowly decline in viewership until eventually something gives out. The scandals just seem to be accelerating the pace in my opinion. It seems like they're just trying to squeeze as many views as they can, while they can. Happy New Year!
Yeah I unsubscribed but still check back in here and there to watch videos with some of the original crew, I just don’t love the new people. Sometimes they can be a good mix with the original crew, but when it’s just new people I’m not going to watch it
The issue is that RT, AH and Lets Play don't know what they are anymore and are churning out random content like the reality tv stuff, shorts and trending games to stay relevant in a time when twitch is a thing and the time between hot and not is getting shorter in the games industry and the biggest issue is that they are releasing too many low quality podcast and not focusing on fewer high quality podcasts, how many podcasts from RT/AH/funhaus can you name.
I liked red web until I realized Trevor was a big part of what was sinking AH. That and they just stopped covering anything interesting. The only RT content of any kind I consume anymore is F**kFace. It is the most real content they’ve ever put out. I can’t stand anyone else at the company at this point. None of them are worth the attention
AH in the past: a group of friends having a genuinely fun time playing games, and sharing these experiences with everyone. AH now: a group of coworkers showing up to work everyday, where they pretend to have fun while playing games Many would blame AH and RT's downfall on the recent sex and workplace abuse scandals, but as someone who has watched RT and AH for over 10 years, I can tell you it's not. The scandals were just catalysts for the inevitable; RT's content was steadily dropping in quality, and AH became too focused on Let's Plays, to the point where AH members were utterly exhausted cranking out hours-long content like a factory (the reason Ray left).
The problem too is that none of the new people are funny the way the old crew was. Only time Trevor has ever made me laugh was when Ray called him Game Kids Trevor and it wasn't even Trevor's joke 😅
For me, personally, I found the videos had started to get boring and stupid, like they were working hard to get the laughs by being morons instead of letting the laughs come naturally. I stopped watching their stuff but I was still subscribed, then the Ryan thing happened and I was done and unsubscribed back then. It's unfortunate, Rooster Teeth used to be almost the only thing I watched on TH-cam, but now I could care less for their content.
A moment that uncovered the veil for me was during the salt raid years ago where Geoff, in jest of course, said that they're not friends just co workers. I obviously knew that they're coworkers but it seemed from that point the way I saw them as a friend group changed and then their video style changed. It felt more of a chore to produce content then a spur of the moment, "Hey I found this crazy glitch in this game, let's make a video about it". The last thing I watched from RT/AH was SBI season 2 and I couldn't even get through that. I fell bad for hyping up RT and AH to my gf a couple years ago cause the quality is been so disappointing as of late.
Geoff actually mentioned this way back in the drunk tank days when it was only a couple dozen people that he misses when they could just be friends instead of focusing on content. Griffon also had trouble finding work because she said she applied to multiple places in Austin before being hired at roosterteeth. Imo that probably contributed to their relationship falling apart because his wife became his coworker.
for me its that i aged out of their new demographic. their content shifted as soon as WB bought them. Loved their content as a college student but overall their content looks like its produced by a sweat shop and their "positive/happy" moments come across as forced. im almost expecting someone to hold up an applaud or laugh sign if the camera ever panned far enough. they used to be hilarious but now its mostly screaming at each other and forced laughter to the point where it becomes unwatchable and i cant even have it on in the background.
I think for me the biggest problem was that I grew up with the core group of AH members and it wasnt the games but them that I liked to watch. I noticed I immediately started to lose interest when Ray left and then as the years went on and the roster started to change and with that the kind of humor started to change and even the games started to change. There were months when it seemed like all they would post with G-mod games and it was the same things over and over, and I really dont like to single specific people out but at some point it seemed that no matter who was in the video it was the Alfredo and Trevor show, and my god was Alfredo annoying just constantly getting in the way of progress in any kind of video and screwing around to the point where I felt like the other members in the video were tired of his crap too. I'm still subscribed but at this point I'm not sure why because I havent actively watched anything they've put out in months.
Gavin Free should leave too. His own channel, Slow mo guys is doing really well. It gets close to or over 1 million views per video. He doesn't need them anymore. I've recently again, have been watching their GTA IV videos from 10 years ago. That was when it was a group of friends having fun playing video games.

One of the biggest missteps imo is the constant barrage of new people. Ray left, Jeremy entered. Okay cool he's there for a while and we get used to him, he clicks, isn't obnoxious, good fit. The Alfredo comes in. We get a bit of time to adjust, and not as many people like him because of his personality. He's too twitch-streamer-esque. Too quippy and too "Nah dawg that shit don't jive with me you feel cuz?" For our liking. And their response is to say we're bigoted and intolerant and we didn't do our research. In short, AH responded like a keyboard warrior. Shaming its own audience when they had the audacity to not fall in line. Same was true for Fiona, and Kye, and BK, and Joe. All these people you throw at us without enough time to adjust, then throw it back at us when we don't like them because you won't give us time to get to know them. I don't care about BK or Kye or Joe because I haven't watched them for ten years. I don't care for Fiona because she was a kind of abrasive that didn't work for me, like Michael used to be. Don't you Dare blame us for refusing to roll over and say "yes master we love it" Personally, I can't wait to see the announcement that AH or even RT are disbanding. Cannot wait. Three years ago I was daydreaming about what a dream job working at AH would be. Now I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Too volatile. Too shortsighted. Too risky.
Watching Alfredo in minecraft a video where they are working together as team to a goal he just goes off very rarely helps or dose nothing to help. Like why have him in them when they know it waste of time yet they keep having him in them.
I remember watching let's play as a teenager and laughing my ass off, then they started to include more people for the sake of diversity. Like lindsay, who doesn't even know how a controller works, and when we said about it, they doubled down and claimed they enjoyed "making the racist sexists rage" Also, when trump won, they all lost about 50 iq each and had a meltdown for about a year.

I think the podcasts like Facejam and F**k Face are the last bastions of true Achievement Hunter Vibes. They actually enjoy making those shows so when you listen to them it's engaging because you can tell they're having fun. I stopped watching their let's play's because it's just sad now, it feels like no one wants to be there
90% of the issue is they replaced half the let’s play cast with these woke liberal arts college students who have absolutely no chemistry and no idea how to flow through dialogue while playing a video game. And then the company gets upset when people voice these dislikes if random ass people showing up? Screw ‘em. They deserve to fail if that’s the attitude they want to portray🤷♂️
It isnt because of the posting strategy or the different channels or anything like that. As a lifelong fan of Roosterteeth, I can with certainty say its because half of the most loveable people there and their relationships and synergy with others are gone. Wehn I go to the channel now, besides Gus, barbara and Gavin, you only occasionally see a veteran roosterteeth maybe, and everything else is filled with new people or staff that arent nearly as enticing as the original crews.
Exactly, they're just a shell of their former glory. And i know people will get butthurt if i don't include the fact that I'm black when i say this to "validate," my opinion: but it's also because of their constant insistence on bowing down to progressive/ woke ideology. Sorry, not sorry. I've also been subject to racism in my life and been made the butt of racist jokes, but never have I allowed that to get me emotionally shipwrecked. I've been an RT/AH fan for 10+ years now and it's just annoying to see all of the changes that have been made in the name of woke-ism and inclusiveness. Of course i know that they do such things to remain relevant/ keep workplace relationships happy. And I have nothing against any women or lgbt people that work there, its just... if you're not funny, you're not funny. And one shouldn't get butthurt over that. I started watching Let’s Play in 2012. Over the years, Ive been disgruntled and jaded from all the controversies: from Ryan to Kdin to terrible working conditions. Nowadays, I barely gain pleasure from going back and watching the classics. Such a shame.
Jaded? Kdin’s a massive hypocrite and a freak. And Ryan cheated on his wife. Big woop. I don’t watch the channel, but I’ve researched what people are whining about and concluded that it’s about a bunch of overly sensitive PC complainers, and they didn’t do themselves any favors by pandering to them by trotting Kdin out as their pet transgender for brownie points, etc.
Kdins controversy is that he sucked at his job and they didn’t want to put him on air it just blew up because they wanted a progressive audience because jack is a huge left the real issue is that they forced content a lot had bad hires like Fiona and put Trevor in charge despite him failing at the last channel he ran
For me... the Achievement Hunter and Let's Play channel just lost all its personality. What made it popular is no longer there. The only time I click on a video anymore is if Michael is in it, and the, now-rare, appears of Matt. It's a spicy topic, but this is another case of political correctness destroying something. Your mine-field analogy was spot on. Sadly, the decline of RT was inevitable... you cant be offensive in today's culture (usually for good reason) and that's what made them. Just a bunch of "bros" hanging out, bashing on another in good banter. It's unfortunate what went on behind the scenes, I think that contributed to a lot of people walking away, myself included.
I miss the old crew. 12 years ago, when almost every video was a freaking masterpiece. For a brief moment of time, they were able to capture lightning in a bottle. I’m still subscribed after all of these years, though I never tune in. I rewatch older content from time to time due to feeling nostalgic.
That was when it was just a group of friends having fun playing video games together. I've just recently been watching their GTA IV videos. One of the reason why I think many people have stopped watching is because they became to big and corporate.
Part of the problem with their popularity is that a lot of them went the usual "celebrity" way of going political because of their viewer count. A lot of people just want to watch them play games and have fun, not listen to their political positions. They did the current trend of straying from entertainment to go into social grand standing, and it backfired on them. Like most people, I stopped watching because they kept bringing in people that wanted to win points on Twitter and not actually entertain the viewers. Their success was from how entertaining the content was and not how social grand standing. They lost sight of where they started, and it shows.
It's kinda hard to watch them since they've become so Woke and bring their Liberal crying to their videos.... Facejam has become half actual content and half liberal crying....
It’s been a steady decline with RT for me. Once Burnie left I stopped watching the podcast. Once Ray left I stayed subscribed but didn’t really watch their content any more outside of Minecraft and GTA. Ryan became my favorite at that point. Then once I saw your videos on the Ryan Haywood situation I was out. Unsubscribed from the RT and LetsPlay TH-cam channels. Even though I didn’t watch their content I still but followed the individual creators like Gavin, Michael, Alfredo, etc. because I believed they were good people. Then when I saw your videos on the crunch news and the Kdin situation, along with RT’s poor response and the poor responses from Gavin/Gus/Geoff/Michael to that situation, I unfollowed all of them too Sad to see how far they’ve fallen
RT/AH have been terrible at finding talent for years. Sure people like Ray and Michael were pretty much nobodys but they actually saw potential in them and liked their content. Plus they obviously all jelled well together. Even though i was never the biggest matt and Jeremy fans (though compared to people after them they are millions times better) they slowly integrated them on and they had actual chemistry with the group. After that it just seems like they hire all these random nerdy weirdos that have no social.skills what so ever. When they use to hire nerdy weirdos that actually had social skills lol. Lastly it just seems like not only did they not grow up but they became even more childish. They are one step away from being blippi. That's literally why im here I saw some community post with Alfredo acting like a little kid and got curious to how the downfall is going.
I stopped watching let play after Geoff stopped playing and new guys like Trevor and Alfredo joined, plus they stopped there GTA videos which were my favourite. Without Geoff,jack as regulars and Ryan (despite his crap) were the most interesting to me
I unsubscribed from all Rooster Teeth channels when every other video seemed to have political crap in it. I watched to escape the real world, not be reminded of it and told I'm less than if I don't agree.
To be honest. I think AH/LP has gone to shit. RT is still kinda doing what it’s always done. But AH/LP has utterly gone to shit. They’re woke, they’re bland, their reactions are forced, they only hire non-white personalities (I have no problem with this. BK, Ky, Alfredo, are all people I watch and follow on their own platforms away from achievement hunter. Blizzbear from RT as well, they’re extremely entertaining and funny and I love them, but lately it’s seemed like they’re forcing ethnic/people of color to be their forefront as if to say ‘look we aren’t racist’ or hiring lgbtqa+ personalities and pushing them to the front to say ‘look we’re not racists OR homophobes’. I have no issue with lgbtqa+ representation, I love it, I need it as a member of the community myself it’s helpful. But then they do things like Joe, I’m sure he’s funny and great, but for like 4 months every single video was him. You couldn’t watch achievement hunter or lets play without him, I got burnt out of seeing him and I’m sure he got burnt out of having to do so much (I’m not sure that’s just speculation). I’m not saying I don’t want Joe in ah/lp, I just want to see ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE TOO! When was the last time Gavin was in videos back to back to back? When was the last time Jack was in videos back to back to back? I watch every video of every channel, atleast everyone I can, and lately, I’ve found myself going back and watching things from 5-6-8 years ago, when id say ah/lp/rt peaked Bc they’re that much more enjoyable. (And I hate rewatching stuff) I’m not saying I want the old RT back, it wouldn’t be successful these days imo. What I want is for the content to feel genuine like it used to, I want the inside jokes and the seemlessness, the REAL laughs, these days it feels like they have a big red sign that says ‘LAUGH’ that lights up every now and then. I quite frankly hate it. And the only reason I watch anymore is Bc I’m holding on and hoping they find their way again.. Bc I’m not sure I can take much more of this falling. I mean look, they hired people and then fired Matt Bc there were too many people. WHAT? They didn’t have to hire anyone after the Ryan/Adam thing. But they did. For me personally I stopped watching the Let's Play videos (on the site not YT) because they went to shorter video format while it being obvious they were still recording for the same length of time. Conversations and game play were clearly missing. Don't get me wrong if it doesn't add to the experience then it should probably be cut, but if they are referencing something that was said in a piece of content that ultimately ended up being cut, it made it jarring for me to watch. While I understand trying to chase the algorithm is probably something they were told to do by the higher ups, I feel like it was a bad move. Hell sometimes the absurd length made is what made the video. That combined with the fact that they can't take criticism(real criticism not people being hateful). Just see Ky's post on the Reddit or the Q&A with Griff and Simmons in which Griff (I'm assuming with Geoff's acting choice) mocked someone asking a genuine question about the quality of RvB Zero. If I were a betting man, my money would be on RWBY's success being tied to whether or not WB starts shutting things down. Obviously there's no way to tell. I'm not associated with WB or Rooster Teeth in any way, and this is just wild speculation. That being said, I think WB has more invested in RWBY than any other of Rooster Teeth's IPs with the crossover movies coming out. Again, wild speculation.
The first AH video I saw came out almost 9 years ago (Geoff's GTA 5 Heist) I discovered it by accident but kept watching. Eventually I branched out into everything else and got addicted. I used to hurry home for the daily Let's play and I never missed a GTA or Minecraft. Looked forward to Off Topic every week and then at some point early in the pandemic I missed an episode and I havent watched one since. I can't really explain it. I could't say when the last time I watched a Let's Play was. On the other hand, I absolutely love F**CK FACE and Annual Pass. I think some off it has to do with age, I'm 22 now but there is more to it than that. Anyone else?
I found them through Gavin and Geoff’s things to do in Minecraft about 10 years ago and branched out to the let’s plays from there. Watched religiously from 7th grade until 3rd year of university when I just missed like a week’s worth of let’s play content and stopped watching entirely like you did. I tried getting back to it but I couldn’t finish any videos I started. The only RT created content I consume now is Facejam. I liked f**kface for a while but I missed a couple of episodes and there are too many inside jokes/ongoing sagas to just listen to the most recent one and know what’s going on so I fell off that too
I’m 23 and started watching them back in 2009. I stopped watching them when I got into Funhaus. Funhaus’ videos were short and to the point and had a ton of improv, whereas AH’s were really long
I have been watching achievement hunter since Michael joined. And it's seems like the content they release now is almost like throwing it at the wall and hope it gets popular. If it doesn't then they try something new. Too many ideas are thrown out and so different, it's hard for someone to wanna watch it all.
Their content started going downhill when YT changed how the content was pushed to new viewers. Since video views went down and Trevor was in charge of content direction, he was vocal about changes to the channel. But that also meant chasing the views. So if G-mod is getting pushed by YT to viewers, that's what AH made more of. And so it became a rollercoaster of view chasing where they would ride a vid theme trying to "recreate" the vibes until they ran it into the ground then they would get another vid with views and repeat. Progressively over the years Trevor in particular was vocal about what "worked" and what didn't in terms of viewership and it was off-putting for a lot of audience to realize that it is a business and they have to make the numbers go up, so content and relationships within the group started to feel forced or faked. Not to mention, with long-running personalities leaving left and right, they basically Walking Deaded themselves much like when Glenn was removed.
I’m now one of those who has finally decided to cancel my first membership as I really just didn’t care anymore about 90% of the content that was being posted, I was never really one of those people who watched the RT side of it except for the RT podcast but I was mostly on there for AH and FH mostly, but over time I just kept getting more and more bored of the content AH was bringing and yes I will say that I was a little biased because my least favourite member of AH was just being put into more videos (Trevor) and I tried to do the thing where I would just be silent and skip that video but then it just got more and more videos that I had to skip because he was in it and then eventually I tried watching a new video and it didn’t feel the same at all, then there was funhaus they were the only reason I was hanging because even though they didn’t have most of the OG cast they tried to keep things new, fresh and inventive unlike AH and they hired people who genuinely worked well with their humour and fitted in well so as soon as they started saying about how you can support them with the members part on TH-cam I thought to myself that I would rather support them there than keep subscribing to the site where I feel like my voice is no longer cared for, so that’s my rant about how I feel about the RT at this point in time 😅
The lack of edginess is why I unsubscribed. They literally only attack Trump supporters for like 2 years and refused to take shots at anyone else. They also started to get offended by their audience and started complaining so much more about their jobs. It also didn't help that Ray, Jeremy, and Ryan were widely considered the funniest achievement hunter members and they are all gone now.
It such a shame I grew up with ah and rt and they are no longer the people I admire I unscribe from them because how they respond to controversy. And they say it will do better but aren't better. I think maybe they should just do an massive restructure of the staff
I think they’ve already done a massive reconstruction that started with burnie stepping down. Geoff doesn’t have a power he once had and it seems gus strictly does podcasts. With the saturation of media and TH-cam just being old in general I can’t see roosterteeth ever recovering unless they completely changed the way they release content and where they release content too and when.
I stopped watching RT around the RVB season 11/12ish and AH around the time that the whole RWBY Vic situation started up. I knew just from the woke guilty until proven innocent bullshit that was going on that the RT I once knew was gone. The writing was on the wall, the happy go lucky yolo gamers I knew had grown older and become more reserved and had been badgered by woke mobs online and probable HR from their knew parent company so much that they are now the entity they once sought out to be the reverse of... corporate. Personally, I think Ray chose the perfect moment to springboard out of AH and do his own thing. Burnie dipped out to save his sanity, ofc he had insider info and knew what went on but I think post Lazer Team Burnie looked and sounded DONE with whatever tf was going on at the time. he seems actually happy again in his most non RT recent content.
Its crazy their Lets Play channel took such a massive downfall during the pandemic. Other video game content and streamers hit their peaks in that same time.
Not to mention the incompetence and entitlement of the employees as well. I hope Zaslav shuts it down to scare their fans and others who behave like them
I think they probably would start a new channel if that ever happen. And some of the editor would go freelancing. They probably merger wit Bruce and Lawrence's Inside game.
Without spoole Bruce Lawrence and Adam there just isn’t the same vibe it used to have. I loved funhaus but James and Ellie can’t make up for all of them
I know the biggest reason I don’t watch the content much these days is there is very little variety. They seem to just play the same games. Years ago you had the GTA mondays and Minecraft fridays but the other days of the week would be random games.
I've been a long time AH and Let's Play viewer. It saddens me to see the state that their channel is in. Every now and then I watch their old content; GTA IV and GTA V, Destiny, and other videos. To me, the channels started to die once Ray left. He was smart and saw what was coming. Then once they went corporate, it was GG. Their charm was that they just seemed like a group of 6 friends who were just having fun messing around on games, and everybody had their sort of "character" which made it work. Gavin was the moron, Michael was the rage guy, Geoff was the one who sucked at games, Ray was the one who was good at games, Ryan was the creepy psycho one, and Jack was the big teddy bear. Jeremy fit in well too as the fiesty one. But once they started just adding random people, that's where the charm left. Matt and Alfredo had their place, but people like Lindsay and Trevor just didn't work (especially Trevor). Trevor just honestly seemed like an actor, and would try WAY too hard to be funny, to the point of being just cringe. I haven't watched any of their new content in years, and I don't plan on it. They just play random games, and get maybe 50k views if they're lucky. It's a shame what happened to them

I’m a pretty OG Achievement hunter fan, I have watched since before Gavin and Micheal. The main cast was so effortless before, but now many of the new cast just don’t mesh as well at all. I feel bad but BK (sometimes, depending on the video), Ky and Joe just aren’t funny to me. I also hated Fiona at first but over time she found her groove and it was like the moment I started to finally really appreciate her content, she left. I have been subscribed to achievement hunter for well over a decade and I want to give the new cast a chance in hopes they turn out like Fiona, Alfredo and Matt who took a while for me to warm up to but it’s been a long while and I still haven’t found their contributions to the channel to be enough to keep me watching. I will remain subscribed but it sucks that there are so many uninteresting videos that are uploaded now. I hope things change but I doubt they will a positive way.
I think the main issue with roosterteeth in general is that it is too insular and isolated from other forms of online content. They need to collaborate more. Bring on more guests from outside communities. Clearly the algorithm isn't pushing their content so they need to manufacture engagement.
I used to watch LP religiously when there was a core 6 personalities and occasionally somebody would sub in. Around the time they brought in Alfredo was when I felt things started tomgo downhill then it got worse after Geoff started participating less, Ryan got fired, and they moved Lindsay and Matt into the main room. I would go in and watch the occasional play pals with Michael and Gavin but even that lost its appeal
OG RT fan here, I'm in my 40's now and stopped watching their content about 5-6 years ago. Mostly due to not having time anymore to sit and watch hours of content every week in hopes of the 1 or 2 good jokes that would land. When you have multiple 45 min plus videos going up every day and the entertainment value isn't there for most of it then it's just a simple numbers game. I would rather watch or do something else with my limited time than live off of nostalgia and hope the content would get better. Ray was true to himself and left, other's stayed because they probably thought the fans would always be with them and they could just live off of past success and maybe put out some good content. The problem is though when that doesn't happen and you still stay, it's no longer loyalty, it's just stupidity.
To your comment on Achievement Hunter's/Let's Plays' shift away from "offensive" content as well as the decline of the Let's Play style, I want to make an analogy to a group of video game streamers/content creators: SMI77Y, BigPuffer, Grizzy, and Blarg. All these people are relatively solo, but are an obvious group of friends who make content and often collab. Their humor tends to be more "offensive" or edgy at times, but it is out of the trying to trip each other up rather than being malicious. Which, imo, is a very common thing friends do to each other to try and keep each other laughing. I was a huge fan of AH up until early 2021 when I kind of realized things were different. Many people in the comments here have already pointed out that it felt less like friends and more like work. I bring up these other creators for a reason, they may not have the largest number(save for SMI77Y's channel), but their personalities are consistent and they never try to be more than what they are, often times showing their humble sides when their relative popularity hits them out of nowhere. This creates a very (relatively) wholesome community that is loyal to their content. Let's Plays are no longer the big craze perhaps, but showcasing good friendship and how "on-the-line" humor is genuinely tossed around in it is something incredibly endearing to watch imo
I miss old AH and old FH. I really only liked RT itself from the old RvB days. I only kinda vibe with the RT podcast after I became more acquainted with the RT people from being interested in the AH personalities. Ray leaving AH really hurt, and a lot of people never returned or felt that it felt the same after that. Myself included I turned to FH quick as the sting from Ray was still healing. FH is the shit literal golden age of youtube for me. However Matt and Jeremy did grow on me, and AH I feel had a pretty awesome 2nd golden age there for a while. However the Ryan Haywood and Adam thing fucked me. Ryan Haywood maybe it very hard for me to rewatch old content and I have tried a few times, and i don't know these new people in AH and I'm 28 years old at the time and I don't care anymore lmao. Luckily I still can watch old funhaus/IG, honestly it's often times even funnier. It's not all bad though, what I've lost in AH/FH/RT I've gained in other places. I have transferred over to Game Grumps, Ray, Blunder/Pokeaim, Emvee and Jan/Pchals for gaming content.
About a year ago i unsubbed from their channels and that was after not watching them for a year. Their content became awful. They destroyed their best two series, GTA and Minecraft, by having crap people in the videos,sort of remaking older videos with the new people. The only thing I did watch recently was Minecraft Survival Island when they put the first one on TH-cam. That wasn't bad. Haven't watched the second series because I'm not paying them money.
Besides most of the videos being boring now, they don't seem as into it anymore. Lindsay has been in almost every video for a month, I've always found her annoying+video ruining..she doesn't understand the vibe and all her jokes flop yet she obnoxiously laughs and says come on like it's the most hilarious thing ever said when only she's laughing. The only thing I'll watch now from them is the ds3 playthrough when they upload a video every 1.5 months. Once they lost Ryan cause the scandal they went downhill, he seemed to keep the videos going in a linear direction and vibed with each member. After that the videos feel like they lose direction 10 mins in and everything feels forced.
I've been watching since 2012. I'm definitely someone who stopped watching after Fiona left. Then Ify kind of left, Jeremy and Jack don't really show up. I lost my shit after seeing they made a scripted "reality show" based on Survivor. They've definitely fallen off. The reality cooking show and the other bs took me out completely. Disgusting as some their actions were, a lot of the Achievement Hunter guys were genuinely funny in their content. But, their treatment of co-workers and things they did in their personal lives was abhorrent. It still plagues the group. I just miss the 2012-2020 content. It felt much more genuinely funny and organic.
warner should cannibalize the company :/ its just spinning its wheels. you hit it it on the head with "they used to be offensive" that shock value was what made things hilarious and getting the raw reactions and feeding that energy was amazing... its dead now because everything is wrong- even being right.
Let’s Play was the only RT channel I was subscribed to in 2022. I hardly watched at that point, but I stuck around in case they played something I was interested in. After Kdin speaking out I officially unsubbed. I’m curious to see how long the channel survives
Lol. I really liked RT way before cancel culture became a huge thing in media brands. They've cancelled so many of the primary faces of the company for whatever reasons and more they're cancelling their selves. Let's need honest their content is pretty trash at this point. It's not entertaining it's not funny. I'll be lucky to get a chuckle out of their content when i actually watch it.
If I May share an opinion about why I unsibbed from Let's Play. There were 2 things that really pushed me away. What Ryan did was not good , thats not what we are talking about tho. However he was a true staple in much of their content. He really made let's plays fun and interesting with his personality. The other thing was the people they brought on, like Fiona. AND BEFORE ANYONE JUMPS DOWN MY THROAT, it has NOTHING to do with the fact that she's of African decent NOR the fact that she's a female. Her humor was awful, she was a broken record repeating funny things other members just said and wondering why no one was laughing. In my opinion Lindsay was hilarious, Mica Burton was phenomenal, the new girl (Ki?) I've only seen like 1 video since 2 years ago. She was pretty good. The people they brought in just weren't filling those shoes left behind. Thanks for your time
I used to watch a lot of RT content and had a first membership for a while but slowly intrested faded. RWBY fell off hard past season 3 it was a good premise with a lot of potential but with Monty's death you could see a decline in the combat animation, and I finally stopped after season 5 or 6 due to the Vic Mignogna were RT and Funimation did him dirty and they decided to ignore all wrting conversations and just lore dump everything. Achievement Hunter started to suck when they felt the need to force more people down our throats. Even before the Ryan drama they kept introducing more and more people before we can even warm up to the just person. The whole company had an identity issue, it was originally centered around gaming and machinama that how grew into have multiple podcasts, sketch comedy, animation and tried to make drama series like netflix. Felt like they we're just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what stuck. Which costs mo be wy if it fails hard. Like genlock. Then it has a horrible work environment where is both over controlled and under controlled. Where you have a push be to make new exclusive content for first, but no good supervision to make sure they weren't stealing money for their own projects *cough* genlock *cough* It's possible they could make a turn around kinda like collegehumor did with dropout but I find it unlikely based on what I have seen.
Things certainly did go downhill once they were acquired by Full Screen and they suddenly tried shifting into a media company with movies, animation, etc. And the organic nature of friends hanging out was gone. Now they had to meet quotas, push content, ads and exploit trends.
I stopped watching at about early 2019. It really feels to me like this is where their quality of content started to drop significantly for me. They didn't seem to be playing to have a good time, they were playing to get paid. The chemistry of the original 6 kept me watching and when they left for one reason or another, I didn't care anymore. Mica was cool, but her time was brief, Alfredo is annoying, Jeremy bounced back and forth being entertaining and boring. I can't really tell you who is on there now. I think they forgot why they are doing what they're doing.
I want to see the fall of RT, to see them suffer sire that’s a bit mean and overreacted but I seen it all, famous channels or company’s rise so high and becoming so low to the point of hatred and lies, I can’t wait for their down fall soon.

I dont want to sound like that person but where i started having issues is where it seems they got more interrsted in checking boxes than people that would have good chemistry. Sure hire people based on skin color and sexuality, but make sure they know what they are doing, BK has been the first new hire since jeremy that is a all around gamer and knows whats going on. Also when theu decided to stop scheduled episodes (i think also a younger person idea) killed them. I find myself watching old lets play minecraft and gtav becasue its better than the current content
I’ve a lot of love for the Lets play guys hell I still watch their old vids now and then but my opinion is so many factors at least for me came to my slow stoppage of watching them, Ray leaving I understand idk it never felt the same after at least for me, after a while it was cool but like I got bored of what they were doing their minecraft series while their move from Achievement City was out of their control I feel like it for me lost what was special but at the same time they did still have a few good here and there but over time i definitely watched them less and less occasionally going back to see what was going on. Then their was the Ryan Haywood drama I always found him funny and there was the Adam dude but tbh I didn’t know him didn’t watch their stuff I remember I was like I can relate to these guys would love to be apart of it one day and to hear the Haywood drama it opened my eyes and sorta diminished me ever watching them in the same way don’t get me wrong I can turn it on ignore the fact one’s a criminal and shouldn’t be brought back I just can turn my brain off to their old vids then the rooster teeth drama didn’t help and it’s just a lot of factors where I’m like these guys are really cool we don’t know fully what happens behind closed doors maybe it is fucked up but yeah it’s out of their control by this point
Well, to be fair, it's not great to judge any of RT based on view numbers now and then. They got destroyed by the algorithm during the adpocolypse and seem to be one of the largest groups which were unable to recover. They were still producing some fairly decent content around that time, but viewer numbers crumbled. A large reason why YT is dying is that they pushed hard for people to watch on their website. To the point in which it became hard to be a fan, since their website was, and likely still is complete garbage. To push people towards their website, they began to produce more paid content, which only further turned people off. At some point, their 'normal' content began to feel monotonous, as their focus began completely towards paid content and forcing people onto the website. As for personality driven content, they were always personality driven by nature, the games were just a vehicle which allowed them to showcase those personalities. Splitting the channels into two different content types was actually fairly intelligent, as fans generally wanted more personality driven content. Myself included. I've always maintained that one of they key reasons behind the downgrade in content was due to the AH podcast. In the past, the 'golden years' if you will, the group would fill up downtime and quite moments through storytelling. Some of the best moments in early minecraft was Geoff telling stories. After the podcast was created, stories in normal videos vanished and were saved for the podcast. In order to fill up the gaps, it became just nonsense screaming. Don't get me wrong, AH was always loud. But long gone were the bird noises and angry screaming, it became nothing more than "WhoAoAoAAOOOAAOOO" and "AHhhhHHHhHhHHhhHhHh". That content may work for children, but their audience had already matured for several years by that point. The final problem with their content was people, but this fact has been beaten like a dead horse. No point in discussing it again.
Other channels put out one video a week and do great. RT produces too much content and it probably floods subscribers feeds. They need to trim down their staff as they brought on a lot of horrible people and rely on their personalities to produce fun and original content. It can't run like a big business, it needs to be more fluid. They also need to stop all their woke BS. They keep tip toeing and it makes them look pathetic and they still get in trouble. Real fans of theirs will be there if they get back to their roots.
Does anyone actually ever hit the like button for a video like this? Because for me personally I only hit the like button for videos I mean to rewatch somewhere down the line. The like button takes on a sort of bookmark for content I mean to find in the future. Videos with some comedic or rewatchable entertainment value. So I never hit the button for content like the majority of this channel because why would I want to rewatch outdated news about Rooster Teeth or gaming down the line? I'm sorry the algorithm puts so much value on likes but it really is a content producer side problem that gets put on the viewer. Its just funny how every TH-camr says "smash the like and subscribe" and how that tired slogan at the end of so many videos by now only serves to tell me as a viewer that the that video I clicked on is over and that I should click off of this one.
Notice how the halo 5 LASO videos are the highest viewed video series and have not had a laso in a few months since then. Due to LASO being a monthly video series.
I stopped watching Roosterteeth a while ago, one of the main reasons was the let's play channel once i realised i was watching videos that didn't feature any of the members i grew to love like geoff, jack, ray, gavin and Michael. I grew to love Jeremy, especially after ray left but some of the other personalities i just didn't find that entertaining to watch. Their chemistry felt almost corporate, like they were forced to play games and have funny moments because it was their job, it didn't have the same feeling as say their old GTA 4 videos. The one exception of this group is Lindsey because they are or were (I'm not up to date on anything at RT anymore aside from the big scandals) married to Michael so they had good chemistry together. Other reasons i left are people saying braindead things on multiple shows including the podcast (Gus' comments about kingdom come deliverance) come to mind, the decline of shows like RWBY because they couldn't live up to montys legacy and their pushing of a website that hardly works. It's a shame because i once considered achievement hunter and RT as a whole to be among my favourites and i started watching them very early when i first started watching TH-cam. I think the only group i still watch from that time is the yogscast, but they've had their fair share of scandals that were handled relatively well and every member they've added has managed to fit in well with the main cast there
The reason I unsubbed a while ago is they used to feel like a group of friends hanging out playing video games. Now it feels like a bunch off coworkers creating content. I enjoyed them when it reminded me of me and my friends, now it seems fake and forced.

You can sum it up to "Go woke, go broke". I unsubbed to them and stopped watching right after Ryan got canned for his BS. When they started to add new people, I just lost interest. They just weren't that funny.
The reason I stopped watching let's play is simply I outgrew them. I was a massive fan I watched every video, I loved the AH crew. As the crew expanded with new members they became increasingly less funny, one of their new members was Fiona which a lot of fans pointed out via comments that she is not entertaining at all. The last straw for me was AH made a live stream where fiona was calling all the fans who said she wasn't funny racists which made me sick. I now refuse to watch them at all.
For me it was the personalities pushed in videos. If it had a certain member in a video and I didn't like them... I'd leave. After a while, I stopped watching all together and then I unsubscribed. Right now, I only listen to the F*** Face Podcast.
They are loosing subs because they add people who are just unpleasant to listen to. you need people who are either funny or interesting, and they need a pleasant voice. The recent additions are legit grating to listen to, and that is from someone who has a really broad tolerance for voices. If they can't escape the diversity hires, at least they need to pick ones that have at worst a plain voice.
One thing I don't see mentioned here enough is how random new people would just show up in episodes. I'd fallen in love with the chemistry and entertainment of the original 6. You can't just replace and add people in there and expect me to love them. They wouldn't take the time to introduce them, warm me up to them so to speak. I remember an off topic episode where Geoff was yelling at the audience for not doing their research on who alfredo was he was suddenly showing up in let's plays. I shouldn't have to do research. It's your audience on your channel. I might like Alfredo but you can't be mad if I don't.
Fair point. I agree. You can't just throw in new people all the time and expect the audience to eat it up. My guess is, that some of the original crew understood the value that they're adding to the show. And then asked for a solid raise. And then RT opted in for new people who cost 10% of what the original crew charged. But of course that's just speculation. Who knows.

And as you said, Let's Plays generally is not as popular now as it once was (probably due to livestreams, and now youtube live is much better than it was, it's even easier for youtubers and their audience to connect in there).
I worked with RT a decade ago, and never had any problems. But maybe that was just a good experience that was an anomalie.

I think the biggest thing is that the new personalities (and nothing against them) treat this as a job first.
The old Achievement Hunter crew were all friends and it felt like just friends playing games. They didn’t have to try super hard to entertain us beyond coming up with video ideas.
Now it just feels like coworkers all trying to be funny together and not friends just being themselves.

I feel that you might be missing a key reason for their steady decline.
A few years ago now, I believe AH chose to aggressively pursue a much younger demographic (which is evident in their content feeling more 'silly' or character driven, as well as by looking at the way they design their thumbnails to attract younger viewers / gamers), and in doing so, AH alienated the fans they had attracted during their golden age (2012 to 2015).
I think they saw a younger demographic as more lucrative and felt they could easily cater their content to this demographic by doubling-down on Minecraft videos, by hiring younger on camera talent, etc. This change in content felt too juvenile for many of their older fans, and so much of their original audience flocked to channels that catered to their humour and or interests (e.g. Funhaus).
However, many years on, it appears that AH was unsuccessful in bringing in these younger fans. And by losing their older fans in the process, they are now slowly spiralling downward.

This is pretty spot on. Good catch. I also think that Trevor, Lindsay and Geoff made a decision to do that in a time where if you weren't kid friendly and you played video games... YT labeled you as a kids' channel regardless and it zapped your engagement and your ad revenue. So, they basically just appealed to the bad YT ad rules and hoped for the best. And... It didn't work out... Still to this day.
That's pretty accurate. I remember once i was watching a TTT video of theirs as i normally would when i wanted to turn my brain off. About half an hour in, i realised that none of the people I subscribed to the channel for were in that video and worse, i hadn't laughed once and at that point in most of the original crews videos, I'd be dying laughing (I'll define the original crew as Geoff, jack, gavin, Michael, Ray, Jeremy to an extent and the other one). I liked that crew because of their dramatic reactions, their banter and just all around shenanigans in games. Anyone who's seen their gta 4 lets plays knows what i mean.
I flicked through a bunch of their recent videos at that time and it was the same story. I immediately unsubbed from all RT content i was subbed to, i pretty much exclusively watched AH but that moment of realisation is what led me to drop RT entirely. Only one i still watch is slow mo guys
It makes sense, as most people get older the age out of a.h content. Certainly did for me. I think the issue more is although they’ve altered towards a younger demographic they haven’t captured their interest

Shout out to Ray for having the future sight. He was ahead of the curve and saw things nobody else did at the time. In hindsight, everyone probably should have followed his route cause now it's too far past the point of no return.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just crashed and burned in the near future or just get shut down by WB-Discovery and RT’s most talented get scattered around the parent company. RT is probably seeing profits due to their massive layoffs and other things they’ve cut to make their numbers look good. It’s the method that the head of Discovery did to boost profits. It works but then you get garbage content

It could be from animation or just from cutting expenses either staff or the amount to produce content. It will probably take a year or two to see the end result of a restructure and success or breakup of the business as we know it.
About 6-12 months into the pandemic, I literally stopped watching/listening to the gaming channels of RT. Otherwise I did listen to their podcasts that they were pushing out until the shenanigans that happened a few months ago. If they do recover, it better be a f%$king miracle.

How can Rooster Teeth attract new audiences? All of their best content is behind a pay wall. The reason the grew up so much to begin with is because their videos, podcasts and series where all available on TH-cam now if you want to go and watch something that interests you you have to go and pay for membership on their site. All you have on TH-cam is the 1st episode of a new series and then they ask you to go to their website pay to watch something that you found intrsting. But all it does is just turn people away. I think that if they don't change this they will never recover.

I think the formula has just broken down by this point. RT has maintained that image of a fun company where people come into work and make jokes and play games all day, and they've maintained it for a long while in their defence. I don't think there are enough people with the proper experience to manage MCN's efficiently yet. I always saw TH-cam as a door for "regular people" to use, to get into the entertainment industry on their own platform. Now it feels like it's just become a virtual Hollywood where you're going to have a really hard time simply pursuing a passion or interest, because you need to appease sponsors and meet contractual obligations etc. I'm more concerned about the platform as a whole now that the industry titans are collapsing.
This is a very cogent and apt summary I think. When they were first emerging there still was the landscape of youtube as the place you find weird videos, late 00s vlogger youtubers doing skits and 2010s rise of corporate sponsor souped up consumer guide TH-cam gurus / lifestyle. There were people who I remember watching who did post guides and playthrus of games (GamingPixie, ChuggaConroy etc) that it seemed like an obvious next layer of atmosphere like 'oh of course ! A big mst3k sized group just playing games, of course !' The landscape of youtube isnt super different now, but theres no pretense around it not being reshaped to allow tiktok to take up the mantle of early yt / tumblr. And the corporate presence on here and tiktok is the reason I'm sure, and I'm sure the thrill of being able to work in a context like AH / LP is the ouroboros of why things ended the way they did anyways.
Agreed and to a lower scale, this is how I feel about Game Grumps as well. You can kind of see it all collapsing.

My own reason for unsubscribing from RT & Let's Play was because the new personalities just weren't funny in videos. No disrespect to them, but they didn't have the same sort of chaotic synergy that the original AH Crew had. They had some funny moments, but overall the quality of humor went down. With or without the controversial topics, cursing, etc. I still watch compilations from the old days because they're still very entertaining. I think Rooster Teeth as a whole will continue to slowly decline in viewership until eventually something gives out. The scandals just seem to be accelerating the pace in my opinion. It seems like they're just trying to squeeze as many views as they can, while they can. Happy New Year!

The issue is that RT, AH and Lets Play don't know what they are anymore and are churning out random content like the reality tv stuff, shorts and trending games to stay relevant in a time when twitch is a thing and the time between hot and not is getting shorter in the games industry and the biggest issue is that they are releasing too many low quality podcast and not focusing on fewer high quality podcasts, how many podcasts from RT/AH/funhaus can you name.
I liked red web until I realized Trevor was a big part of what was sinking AH. That and they just stopped covering anything interesting. The only RT content of any kind I consume anymore is F**kFace. It is the most real content they’ve ever put out. I can’t stand anyone else at the company at this point. None of them are worth the attention

Many would blame AH and RT's downfall on the recent sex and workplace abuse scandals, but as someone who has watched RT and AH for over 10 years, I can tell you it's not. The scandals were just catalysts for the inevitable; RT's content was steadily dropping in quality, and AH became too focused on Let's Plays, to the point where AH members were utterly exhausted cranking out hours-long content like a factory (the reason Ray left).
The problem too is that none of the new people are funny the way the old crew was. Only time Trevor has ever made me laugh was when Ray called him Game Kids Trevor and it wasn't even Trevor's joke 😅
Remember the 2 months they forced the “Chuck joke” down our throats with merch and then suddenly Trevor was in every video and every animated short
For me, personally, I found the videos had started to get boring and stupid, like they were working hard to get the laughs by being morons instead of letting the laughs come naturally. I stopped watching their stuff but I was still subscribed, then the Ryan thing happened and I was done and unsubscribed back then.
It's unfortunate, Rooster Teeth used to be almost the only thing I watched on TH-cam, but now I could care less for their content.

A moment that uncovered the veil for me was during the salt raid years ago where Geoff, in jest of course, said that they're not friends just co workers. I obviously knew that they're coworkers but it seemed from that point the way I saw them as a friend group changed and then their video style changed. It felt more of a chore to produce content then a spur of the moment, "Hey I found this crazy glitch in this game, let's make a video about it". The last thing I watched from RT/AH was SBI season 2 and I couldn't even get through that. I fell bad for hyping up RT and AH to my gf a couple years ago cause the quality is been so disappointing as of late.
best series they ever did was the 7 days to die one, after that I haven't really been interested....

Geoff actually mentioned this way back in the drunk tank days when it was only a couple dozen people that he misses when they could just be friends instead of focusing on content. Griffon also had trouble finding work because she said she applied to multiple places in Austin before being hired at roosterteeth. Imo that probably contributed to their relationship falling apart because his wife became his coworker.
for me its that i aged out of their new demographic. their content shifted as soon as WB bought them. Loved their content as a college student but overall their content looks like its produced by a sweat shop and their "positive/happy" moments come across as forced. im almost expecting someone to hold up an applaud or laugh sign if the camera ever panned far enough. they used to be hilarious but now its mostly screaming at each other and forced laughter to the point where it becomes unwatchable and i cant even have it on in the background.

I think for me the biggest problem was that I grew up with the core group of AH members and it wasnt the games but them that I liked to watch. I noticed I immediately started to lose interest when Ray left and then as the years went on and the roster started to change and with that the kind of humor started to change and even the games started to change. There were months when it seemed like all they would post with G-mod games and it was the same things over and over, and I really dont like to single specific people out but at some point it seemed that no matter who was in the video it was the Alfredo and Trevor show, and my god was Alfredo annoying just constantly getting in the way of progress in any kind of video and screwing around to the point where I felt like the other members in the video were tired of his crap too. I'm still subscribed but at this point I'm not sure why because I havent actively watched anything they've put out in months.

Gavin Free should leave too. His own channel, Slow mo guys is doing really well. It gets close to or over 1 million views per video. He doesn't need them anymore. I've recently again, have been watching their GTA IV videos from 10 years ago. That was when it was a group of friends having fun playing video games.
RT started aggressively pursuing diversity over talent. Fiona was the first misstep and it just tumbled over the cliff. You don’t hire someone for a gaming role then teach them about games. Fiona killed it for me.
Fiona is a spoiled brat who only got the position because of her father. When no one liked her because she was untalented and not funny she goes “hurr racism”.
One of the biggest missteps imo is the constant barrage of new people.
Ray left, Jeremy entered. Okay cool he's there for a while and we get used to him, he clicks, isn't obnoxious, good fit.
The Alfredo comes in. We get a bit of time to adjust, and not as many people like him because of his personality. He's too twitch-streamer-esque. Too quippy and too "Nah dawg that shit don't jive with me you feel cuz?" For our liking.
And their response is to say we're bigoted and intolerant and we didn't do our research.
In short, AH responded like a keyboard warrior. Shaming its own audience when they had the audacity to not fall in line.
Same was true for Fiona, and Kye, and BK, and Joe. All these people you throw at us without enough time to adjust, then throw it back at us when we don't like them because you won't give us time to get to know them.
I don't care about BK or Kye or Joe because I haven't watched them for ten years. I don't care for Fiona because she was a kind of abrasive that didn't work for me, like Michael used to be.
Don't you Dare blame us for refusing to roll over and say "yes master we love it"
Personally, I can't wait to see the announcement that AH or even RT are disbanding. Cannot wait. Three years ago I was daydreaming about what a dream job working at AH would be. Now I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

As a lifelong fan of Roosterteeth, I can with certainty say its because half of the most loveable people there and their relationships and synergy with others are gone. Wehn I go to the channel now, besides Gus, barbara and Gavin, you only occasionally see a veteran roosterteeth maybe, and everything else is filled with new people or staff that arent nearly as enticing as the original crews.

Exactly, they're just a shell of their former glory. And i know people will get butthurt if i don't include the fact that I'm black when i say this to "validate," my opinion: but it's also because of their constant insistence on bowing down to progressive/ woke ideology. Sorry, not sorry. I've also been subject to racism in my life and been made the butt of racist jokes, but never have I allowed that to get me emotionally shipwrecked.
I've been an RT/AH fan for 10+ years now and it's just annoying to see all of the changes that have been made in the name of woke-ism and inclusiveness. Of course i know that they do such things to remain relevant/ keep workplace relationships happy. And I have nothing against any women or lgbt people that work there, its just... if you're not funny, you're not funny. And one shouldn't get butthurt over that.

I don’t watch the channel, but I’ve researched what people are whining about and concluded that it’s about a bunch of overly sensitive PC complainers, and they didn’t do themselves any favors by pandering to them by trotting Kdin out as their pet transgender for brownie points, etc.

For me... the Achievement Hunter and Let's Play channel just lost all its personality. What made it popular is no longer there. The only time I click on a video anymore is if Michael is in it, and the, now-rare, appears of Matt.
It's a spicy topic, but this is another case of political correctness destroying something. Your mine-field analogy was spot on. Sadly, the decline of RT was inevitable... you cant be offensive in today's culture (usually for good reason) and that's what made them. Just a bunch of "bros" hanging out, bashing on another in good banter. It's unfortunate what went on behind the scenes, I think that contributed to a lot of people walking away, myself included.

I miss the old crew. 12 years ago, when almost every video was a freaking masterpiece. For a brief moment of time, they were able to capture lightning in a bottle. I’m still subscribed after all of these years, though I never tune in. I rewatch older content from time to time due to feeling nostalgic.
That was when it was just a group of friends having fun playing video games together. I've just recently been watching their GTA IV videos. One of the reason why I think many people have stopped watching is because they became to big and corporate.
Part of the problem with their popularity is that a lot of them went the usual "celebrity" way of going political because of their viewer count. A lot of people just want to watch them play games and have fun, not listen to their political positions. They did the current trend of straying from entertainment to go into social grand standing, and it backfired on them. Like most people, I stopped watching because they kept bringing in people that wanted to win points on Twitter and not actually entertain the viewers. Their success was from how entertaining the content was and not how social grand standing. They lost sight of where they started, and it shows.
go woke go broke, all the quota hires they put in their videos killed the content for me.
It's kinda hard to watch them since they've become so Woke and bring their Liberal crying to their videos.... Facejam has become half actual content and half liberal crying....

Once Burnie left I stopped watching the podcast.
Once Ray left I stayed subscribed but didn’t really watch their content any more outside of Minecraft and GTA. Ryan became my favorite at that point.
Then once I saw your videos on the Ryan Haywood situation I was out. Unsubscribed from the RT and LetsPlay TH-cam channels. Even though I didn’t watch their content I still but followed the individual creators like Gavin, Michael, Alfredo, etc. because I believed they were good people.
Then when I saw your videos on the crunch news and the Kdin situation, along with RT’s poor response and the poor responses from Gavin/Gus/Geoff/Michael to that situation, I unfollowed all of them too

RT/AH have been terrible at finding talent for years. Sure people like Ray and Michael were pretty much nobodys but they actually saw potential in them and liked their content. Plus they obviously all jelled well together. Even though i was never the biggest matt and Jeremy fans (though compared to people after them they are millions times better) they slowly integrated them on and they had actual chemistry with the group. After that it just seems like they hire all these random nerdy weirdos that have no social.skills what so ever. When they use to hire nerdy weirdos that actually had social skills lol. Lastly it just seems like not only did they not grow up but they became even more childish. They are one step away from being blippi. That's literally why im here I saw some community post with Alfredo acting like a little kid and got curious to how the downfall is going.

To be honest. I think AH/LP has gone to shit. RT is still kinda doing what it’s always done. But AH/LP has utterly gone to shit. They’re woke, they’re bland, their reactions are forced, they only hire non-white personalities (I have no problem with this. BK, Ky, Alfredo, are all people I watch and follow on their own platforms away from achievement hunter. Blizzbear from RT as well, they’re extremely entertaining and funny and I love them, but lately it’s seemed like they’re forcing ethnic/people of color to be their forefront as if to say ‘look we aren’t racist’ or hiring lgbtqa+ personalities and pushing them to the front to say ‘look we’re not racists OR homophobes’. I have no issue with lgbtqa+ representation, I love it, I need it as a member of the community myself it’s helpful. But then they do things like Joe, I’m sure he’s funny and great, but for like 4 months every single video was him. You couldn’t watch achievement hunter or lets play without him, I got burnt out of seeing him and I’m sure he got burnt out of having to do so much (I’m not sure that’s just speculation). I’m not saying I don’t want Joe in ah/lp, I just want to see ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE TOO! When was the last time Gavin was in videos back to back to back? When was the last time Jack was in videos back to back to back? I watch every video of every channel, atleast everyone I can, and lately, I’ve found myself going back and watching things from 5-6-8 years ago, when id say ah/lp/rt peaked Bc they’re that much more enjoyable. (And I hate rewatching stuff) I’m not saying I want the old RT back, it wouldn’t be successful these days imo. What I want is for the content to feel genuine like it used to, I want the inside jokes and the seemlessness, the REAL laughs, these days it feels like they have a big red sign that says ‘LAUGH’ that lights up every now and then. I quite frankly hate it. And the only reason I watch anymore is Bc I’m holding on and hoping they find their way again.. Bc I’m not sure I can take much more of this falling. I mean look, they hired people and then fired Matt Bc there were too many people. WHAT? They didn’t have to hire anyone after the Ryan/Adam thing. But they did. They should’ve made the circle SMALLER not bigger. That’s just my two uneducated cents on the matter

I’m gonna put it like this, when was the last time Achievement Hunter put out an achievement guide? Or a collectable guide?
For me personally I stopped watching the Let's Play videos (on the site not YT) because they went to shorter video format while it being obvious they were still recording for the same length of time. Conversations and game play were clearly missing. Don't get me wrong if it doesn't add to the experience then it should probably be cut, but if they are referencing something that was said in a piece of content that ultimately ended up being cut, it made it jarring for me to watch. While I understand trying to chase the algorithm is probably something they were told to do by the higher ups, I feel like it was a bad move. Hell sometimes the absurd length made is what made the video. That combined with the fact that they can't take criticism(real criticism not people being hateful). Just see Ky's post on the Reddit or the Q&A with Griff and Simmons in which Griff (I'm assuming with Geoff's acting choice) mocked someone asking a genuine question about the quality of RvB Zero.
If I were a betting man, my money would be on RWBY's success being tied to whether or not WB starts shutting things down. Obviously there's no way to tell. I'm not associated with WB or Rooster Teeth in any way, and this is just wild speculation. That being said, I think WB has more invested in RWBY than any other of Rooster Teeth's IPs with the crossover movies coming out. Again, wild speculation.

The first AH video I saw came out almost 9 years ago (Geoff's GTA 5 Heist) I discovered it by accident but kept watching. Eventually I branched out into everything else and got addicted. I used to hurry home for the daily Let's play and I never missed a GTA or Minecraft. Looked forward to Off Topic every week and then at some point early in the pandemic I missed an episode and I havent watched one since. I can't really explain it. I could't say when the last time I watched a Let's Play was. On the other hand, I absolutely love F**CK FACE and Annual Pass. I think some off it has to do with age, I'm 22 now but there is more to it than that. Anyone else?
F*CK FACE is good for me too because it’s back to what they used to be- friends just having fun doing dumb stuff together.

I found them through Gavin and Geoff’s things to do in Minecraft about 10 years ago and branched out to the let’s plays from there. Watched religiously from 7th grade until 3rd year of university when I just missed like a week’s worth of let’s play content and stopped watching entirely like you did. I tried getting back to it but I couldn’t finish any videos I started. The only RT created content I consume now is Facejam. I liked f**kface for a while but I missed a couple of episodes and there are too many inside jokes/ongoing sagas to just listen to the most recent one and know what’s going on so I fell off that too
I’m 23 and started watching them back in 2009. I stopped watching them when I got into Funhaus. Funhaus’ videos were short and to the point and had a ton of improv, whereas AH’s were really long
I have been watching achievement hunter since Michael joined. And it's seems like the content they release now is almost like throwing it at the wall and hope it gets popular. If it doesn't then they try something new. Too many ideas are thrown out and so different, it's hard for someone to wanna watch it all.

Their content started going downhill when YT changed how the content was pushed to new viewers. Since video views went down and Trevor was in charge of content direction, he was vocal about changes to the channel. But that also meant chasing the views. So if G-mod is getting pushed by YT to viewers, that's what AH made more of. And so it became a rollercoaster of view chasing where they would ride a vid theme trying to "recreate" the vibes until they ran it into the ground then they would get another vid with views and repeat. Progressively over the years Trevor in particular was vocal about what "worked" and what didn't in terms of viewership and it was off-putting for a lot of audience to realize that it is a business and they have to make the numbers go up, so content and relationships within the group started to feel forced or faked.
Not to mention, with long-running personalities leaving left and right, they basically Walking Deaded themselves much like when Glenn was removed.
I’m now one of those who has finally decided to cancel my first membership as I really just didn’t care anymore about 90% of the content that was being posted, I was never really one of those people who watched the RT side of it except for the RT podcast but I was mostly on there for AH and FH mostly, but over time I just kept getting more and more bored of the content AH was bringing and yes I will say that I was a little biased because my least favourite member of AH was just being put into more videos (Trevor) and I tried to do the thing where I would just be silent and skip that video but then it just got more and more videos that I had to skip because he was in it and then eventually I tried watching a new video and it didn’t feel the same at all, then there was funhaus they were the only reason I was hanging because even though they didn’t have most of the OG cast they tried to keep things new, fresh and inventive unlike AH and they hired people who genuinely worked well with their humour and fitted in well so as soon as they started saying about how you can support them with the members part on TH-cam I thought to myself that I would rather support them there than keep subscribing to the site where I feel like my voice is no longer cared for, so that’s my rant about how I feel about the RT at this point in time 😅
Ryan while being a vile individual, was the funniest member of ah. After he was exposed they dropped in quality quite a bit.
I know Ryan is bad but I can still watch the old let's play content with him in it.
Once Ryan left and new people started coming in, it just became Geoff, Jack, Gavin and Michael that I still cared about. Now its just not fun

I think they’ve already done a massive reconstruction that started with burnie stepping down. Geoff doesn’t have a power he once had and it seems gus strictly does podcasts. With the saturation of media and TH-cam just being old in general I can’t see roosterteeth ever recovering unless they completely changed the way they release content and where they release content too and when.

I stopped watching RT around the RVB season 11/12ish and AH around the time that the whole RWBY Vic situation started up. I knew just from the woke guilty until proven innocent bullshit that was going on that the RT I once knew was gone. The writing was on the wall, the happy go lucky yolo gamers I knew had grown older and become more reserved and had been badgered by woke mobs online and probable HR from their knew parent company so much that they are now the entity they once sought out to be the reverse of... corporate.
Personally, I think Ray chose the perfect moment to springboard out of AH and do his own thing.
Burnie dipped out to save his sanity, ofc he had insider info and knew what went on but I think post Lazer Team Burnie looked and sounded DONE with whatever tf was going on at the time. he seems actually happy again in his most non RT recent content.
Its crazy their Lets Play channel took such a massive downfall during the pandemic. Other video game content and streamers hit their peaks in that same time.
for me it was the way RT treated its own employees.

I know the biggest reason I don’t watch the content much these days is there is very little variety. They seem to just play the same games. Years ago you had the GTA mondays and Minecraft fridays but the other days of the week would be random games.

I've been a long time AH and Let's Play viewer. It saddens me to see the state that their channel is in. Every now and then I watch their old content; GTA IV and GTA V, Destiny, and other videos. To me, the channels started to die once Ray left. He was smart and saw what was coming. Then once they went corporate, it was GG.
Their charm was that they just seemed like a group of 6 friends who were just having fun messing around on games, and everybody had their sort of "character" which made it work. Gavin was the moron, Michael was the rage guy, Geoff was the one who sucked at games, Ray was the one who was good at games, Ryan was the creepy psycho one, and Jack was the big teddy bear. Jeremy fit in well too as the fiesty one. But once they started just adding random people, that's where the charm left. Matt and Alfredo had their place, but people like Lindsay and Trevor just didn't work (especially Trevor). Trevor just honestly seemed like an actor, and would try WAY too hard to be funny, to the point of being just cringe.
I haven't watched any of their new content in years, and I don't plan on it. They just play random games, and get maybe 50k views if they're lucky. It's a shame what happened to them

I’m a pretty OG Achievement hunter fan, I have watched since before Gavin and Micheal. The main cast was so effortless before, but now many of the new cast just don’t mesh as well at all. I feel bad but BK (sometimes, depending on the video), Ky and Joe just aren’t funny to me. I also hated Fiona at first but over time she found her groove and it was like the moment I started to finally really appreciate her content, she left. I have been subscribed to achievement hunter for well over a decade and I want to give the new cast a chance in hopes they turn out like Fiona, Alfredo and Matt who took a while for me to warm up to but it’s been a long while and I still haven’t found their contributions to the channel to be enough to keep me watching. I will remain subscribed but it sucks that there are so many uninteresting videos that are uploaded now. I hope things change but I doubt they will a positive way.

I think the main issue with roosterteeth in general is that it is too insular and isolated from other forms of online content. They need to collaborate more. Bring on more guests from outside communities. Clearly the algorithm isn't pushing their content so they need to manufacture engagement.
I used to watch LP religiously when there was a core 6 personalities and occasionally somebody would sub in. Around the time they brought in Alfredo was when I felt things started tomgo downhill then it got worse after Geoff started participating less, Ryan got fired, and they moved Lindsay and Matt into the main room. I would go in and watch the occasional play pals with Michael and Gavin but even that lost its appeal
OG RT fan here, I'm in my 40's now and stopped watching their content about 5-6 years ago. Mostly due to not having time anymore to sit and watch hours of content every week in hopes of the 1 or 2 good jokes that would land. When you have multiple 45 min plus videos going up every day and the entertainment value isn't there for most of it then it's just a simple numbers game. I would rather watch or do something else with my limited time than live off of nostalgia and hope the content would get better. Ray was true to himself and left, other's stayed because they probably thought the fans would always be with them and they could just live off of past success and maybe put out some good content. The problem is though when that doesn't happen and you still stay, it's no longer loyalty, it's just stupidity.
I believe after the downfall of the original collegehumor, the life span of a comedy website is 18 to 19 years
To your comment on Achievement Hunter's/Let's Plays' shift away from "offensive" content as well as the decline of the Let's Play style, I want to make an analogy to a group of video game streamers/content creators: SMI77Y, BigPuffer, Grizzy, and Blarg.
All these people are relatively solo, but are an obvious group of friends who make content and often collab. Their humor tends to be more "offensive" or edgy at times, but it is out of the trying to trip each other up rather than being malicious. Which, imo, is a very common thing friends do to each other to try and keep each other laughing.
I was a huge fan of AH up until early 2021 when I kind of realized things were different. Many people in the comments here have already pointed out that it felt less like friends and more like work.
I bring up these other creators for a reason, they may not have the largest number(save for SMI77Y's channel), but their personalities are consistent and they never try to be more than what they are, often times showing their humble sides when their relative popularity hits them out of nowhere. This creates a very (relatively) wholesome community that is loyal to their content.
Let's Plays are no longer the big craze perhaps, but showcasing good friendship and how "on-the-line" humor is genuinely tossed around in it is something incredibly endearing to watch imo

I miss old AH and old FH. I really only liked RT itself from the old RvB days. I only kinda vibe with the RT podcast after I became more acquainted with the RT people from being interested in the AH personalities.
Ray leaving AH really hurt, and a lot of people never returned or felt that it felt the same after that. Myself included I turned to FH quick as the sting from Ray was still healing. FH is the shit literal golden age of youtube for me. However Matt and Jeremy did grow on me, and AH I feel had a pretty awesome 2nd golden age there for a while. However the Ryan Haywood and Adam thing fucked me. Ryan Haywood maybe it very hard for me to rewatch old content and I have tried a few times, and i don't know these new people in AH and I'm 28 years old at the time and I don't care anymore lmao. Luckily I still can watch old funhaus/IG, honestly it's often times even funnier.
It's not all bad though, what I've lost in AH/FH/RT I've gained in other places. I have transferred over to Game Grumps, Ray, Blunder/Pokeaim, Emvee and Jan/Pchals for gaming content.
About a year ago i unsubbed from their channels and that was after not watching them for a year. Their content became awful. They destroyed their best two series, GTA and Minecraft, by having crap people in the videos,sort of remaking older videos with the new people.
The only thing I did watch recently was Minecraft Survival Island when they put the first one on TH-cam. That wasn't bad.
Haven't watched the second series because I'm not paying them money.
Besides most of the videos being boring now, they don't seem as into it anymore. Lindsay has been in almost every video for a month, I've always found her annoying+video ruining..she doesn't understand the vibe and all her jokes flop yet she obnoxiously laughs and says come on like it's the most hilarious thing ever said when only she's laughing. The only thing I'll watch now from them is the ds3 playthrough when they upload a video every 1.5 months. Once they lost Ryan cause the scandal they went downhill, he seemed to keep the videos going in a linear direction and vibed with each member. After that the videos feel like they lose direction 10 mins in and everything feels forced.

I've been watching since 2012. I'm definitely someone who stopped watching after Fiona left. Then Ify kind of left, Jeremy and Jack don't really show up. I lost my shit after seeing they made a scripted "reality show" based on Survivor. They've definitely fallen off. The reality cooking show and the other bs took me out completely. Disgusting as some their actions were, a lot of the Achievement Hunter guys were genuinely funny in their content. But, their treatment of co-workers and things they did in their personal lives was abhorrent. It still plagues the group.
I just miss the 2012-2020 content. It felt much more genuinely funny and organic.
warner should cannibalize the company :/ its just spinning its wheels. you hit it it on the head with "they used to be offensive" that shock value was what made things hilarious and getting the raw reactions and feeding that energy was amazing... its dead now because everything is wrong- even being right.

Let’s Play was the only RT channel I was subscribed to in 2022. I hardly watched at that point, but I stuck around in case they played something I was interested in. After Kdin speaking out I officially unsubbed. I’m curious to see how long the channel survives

Lol. I really liked RT way before cancel culture became a huge thing in media brands. They've cancelled so many of the primary faces of the company for whatever reasons and more they're cancelling their selves. Let's need honest their content is pretty trash at this point. It's not entertaining it's not funny. I'll be lucky to get a chuckle out of their content when i actually watch it.

If I May share an opinion about why I unsibbed from Let's Play. There were 2 things that really pushed me away. What Ryan did was not good , thats not what we are talking about tho. However he was a true staple in much of their content. He really made let's plays fun and interesting with his personality.
The other thing was the people they brought on, like Fiona. AND BEFORE ANYONE JUMPS DOWN MY THROAT, it has NOTHING to do with the fact that she's of African decent NOR the fact that she's a female. Her humor was awful, she was a broken record repeating funny things other members just said and wondering why no one was laughing.
In my opinion Lindsay was hilarious, Mica Burton was phenomenal, the new girl (Ki?) I've only seen like 1 video since 2 years ago. She was pretty good.
The people they brought in just weren't filling those shoes left behind.

I used to watch a lot of RT content and had a first membership for a while but slowly intrested faded.
RWBY fell off hard past season 3 it was a good premise with a lot of potential but with Monty's death you could see a decline in the combat animation, and I finally stopped after season 5 or 6 due to the Vic Mignogna were RT and Funimation did him dirty and they decided to ignore all wrting conversations and just lore dump everything.
Achievement Hunter started to suck when they felt the need to force more people down our throats. Even before the Ryan drama they kept introducing more and more people before we can even warm up to the just person.
The whole company had an identity issue, it was originally centered around gaming and machinama that how grew into have multiple podcasts, sketch comedy, animation and tried to make drama series like netflix.
Felt like they we're just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what stuck. Which costs mo be wy if it fails hard. Like genlock.
Then it has a horrible work environment where is both over controlled and under controlled. Where you have a push be to make new exclusive content for first, but no good supervision to make sure they weren't stealing money for their own projects *cough* genlock *cough*
It's possible they could make a turn around kinda like collegehumor did with dropout but I find it unlikely based on what I have seen.
Things certainly did go downhill once they were acquired by Full Screen and they suddenly tried shifting into a media company with movies, animation, etc. And the organic nature of friends hanging out was gone. Now they had to meet quotas, push content, ads and exploit trends.
Rooster teeth is just messing up so bad when the pandemic was around I just want the community would just heal and hire employees

I stopped watching at about early 2019. It really feels to me like this is where their quality of content started to drop significantly for me. They didn't seem to be playing to have a good time, they were playing to get paid. The chemistry of the original 6 kept me watching and when they left for one reason or another, I didn't care anymore. Mica was cool, but her time was brief, Alfredo is annoying, Jeremy bounced back and forth being entertaining and boring. I can't really tell you who is on there now. I think they forgot why they are doing what they're doing.
For me, it was when they hired some Valerie Solanas esque writer for RWBY
I want to see the fall of RT, to see them suffer sire that’s a bit mean and overreacted but I seen it all, famous channels or company’s rise so high and becoming so low to the point of hatred and lies, I can’t wait for their down fall soon.

I dont want to sound like that person but where i started having issues is where it seems they got more interrsted in checking boxes than people that would have good chemistry. Sure hire people based on skin color and sexuality, but make sure they know what they are doing, BK has been the first new hire since jeremy that is a all around gamer and knows whats going on. Also when theu decided to stop scheduled episodes (i think also a younger person idea) killed them. I find myself watching old lets play minecraft and gtav becasue its better than the current content
I’ve a lot of love for the Lets play guys hell I still watch their old vids now and then but my opinion is so many factors at least for me came to my slow stoppage of watching them, Ray leaving I understand idk it never felt the same after at least for me, after a while it was cool but like I got bored of what they were doing their minecraft series while their move from Achievement City was out of their control I feel like it for me lost what was special but at the same time they did still have a few good here and there but over time i definitely watched them less and less occasionally going back to see what was going on. Then their was the Ryan Haywood drama I always found him funny and there was the Adam dude but tbh I didn’t know him didn’t watch their stuff I remember I was like I can relate to these guys would love to be apart of it one day and to hear the Haywood drama it opened my eyes and sorta diminished me ever watching them in the same way don’t get me wrong I can turn it on ignore the fact one’s a criminal and shouldn’t be brought back I just can turn my brain off to their old vids then the rooster teeth drama didn’t help and it’s just a lot of factors where I’m like these guys are really cool we don’t know fully what happens behind closed doors maybe it is fucked up but yeah it’s out of their control by this point
Well, to be fair, it's not great to judge any of RT based on view numbers now and then. They got destroyed by the algorithm during the adpocolypse and seem to be one of the largest groups which were unable to recover. They were still producing some fairly decent content around that time, but viewer numbers crumbled.
A large reason why YT is dying is that they pushed hard for people to watch on their website. To the point in which it became hard to be a fan, since their website was, and likely still is complete garbage. To push people towards their website, they began to produce more paid content, which only further turned people off.
At some point, their 'normal' content began to feel monotonous, as their focus began completely towards paid content and forcing people onto the website.
As for personality driven content, they were always personality driven by nature, the games were just a vehicle which allowed them to showcase those personalities. Splitting the channels into two different content types was actually fairly intelligent, as fans generally wanted more personality driven content. Myself included.
I've always maintained that one of they key reasons behind the downgrade in content was due to the AH podcast. In the past, the 'golden years' if you will, the group would fill up downtime and quite moments through storytelling. Some of the best moments in early minecraft was Geoff telling stories. After the podcast was created, stories in normal videos vanished and were saved for the podcast. In order to fill up the gaps, it became just nonsense screaming.
Don't get me wrong, AH was always loud. But long gone were the bird noises and angry screaming, it became nothing more than "WhoAoAoAAOOOAAOOO" and "AHhhhHHHhHhHHhhHhHh". That content may work for children, but their audience had already matured for several years by that point.
The final problem with their content was people, but this fact has been beaten like a dead horse. No point in discussing it again.

Other channels put out one video a week and do great. RT produces too much content and it probably floods subscribers feeds. They need to trim down their staff as they brought on a lot of horrible people and rely on their personalities to produce fun and original content. It can't run like a big business, it needs to be more fluid. They also need to stop all their woke BS. They keep tip toeing and it makes them look pathetic and they still get in trouble. Real fans of theirs will be there if they get back to their roots.
Does anyone actually ever hit the like button for a video like this? Because for me personally I only hit the like button for videos I mean to rewatch somewhere down the line. The like button takes on a sort of bookmark for content I mean to find in the future. Videos with some comedic or rewatchable entertainment value. So I never hit the button for content like the majority of this channel because why would I want to rewatch outdated news about Rooster Teeth or gaming down the line?
I'm sorry the algorithm puts so much value on likes but it really is a content producer side problem that gets put on the viewer. Its just funny how every TH-camr says "smash the like and subscribe" and how that tired slogan at the end of so many videos by now only serves to tell me as a viewer that the that video I clicked on is over and that I should click off of this one.
Notice how the halo 5 LASO videos are the highest viewed video series and have not had a laso in a few months since then. Due to LASO being a monthly video series.
I stopped watching Roosterteeth a while ago, one of the main reasons was the let's play channel once i realised i was watching videos that didn't feature any of the members i grew to love like geoff, jack, ray, gavin and Michael. I grew to love Jeremy, especially after ray left but some of the other personalities i just didn't find that entertaining to watch. Their chemistry felt almost corporate, like they were forced to play games and have funny moments because it was their job, it didn't have the same feeling as say their old GTA 4 videos. The one exception of this group is Lindsey because they are or were (I'm not up to date on anything at RT anymore aside from the big scandals) married to Michael so they had good chemistry together.
Other reasons i left are people saying braindead things on multiple shows including the podcast (Gus' comments about kingdom come deliverance) come to mind, the decline of shows like RWBY because they couldn't live up to montys legacy and their pushing of a website that hardly works.
It's a shame because i once considered achievement hunter and RT as a whole to be among my favourites and i started watching them very early when i first started watching TH-cam. I think the only group i still watch from that time is the yogscast, but they've had their fair share of scandals that were handled relatively well and every member they've added has managed to fit in well with the main cast there

You can sum it up to "Go woke, go broke". I unsubbed to them and stopped watching right after Ryan got canned for his BS. When they started to add new people, I just lost interest. They just weren't that funny.
The reason I stopped watching let's play is simply I outgrew them. I was a massive fan I watched every video, I loved the AH crew. As the crew expanded with new members they became increasingly less funny, one of their new members was Fiona which a lot of fans pointed out via comments that she is not entertaining at all. The last straw for me was AH made a live stream where fiona was calling all the fans who said she wasn't funny racists which made me sick. I now refuse to watch them at all.

For me it was the personalities pushed in videos. If it had a certain member in a video and I didn't like them... I'd leave. After a while, I stopped watching all together and then I unsubscribed.
Right now, I only listen to the F*** Face Podcast.
They are loosing subs because they add people who are just unpleasant to listen to. you need people who are either funny or interesting, and they need a pleasant voice. The recent additions are legit grating to listen to, and that is from someone who has a really broad tolerance for voices. If they can't escape the diversity hires, at least they need to pick ones that have at worst a plain voice.
