I love the positive energy although something bad happened. You are not devastated. Instead you already look forward, how recovery can be and what the next race could be. That’s so nice! Wish you all the best and a quick recovery.

I don't really know anything about triathlon, nor do I run, bike, or swim competitively. Can't recall how I found your channel years ago when there were very few subs.... Anyway - I like you guys; so I keep watching. Currently I am recovering from a MCL tear (hiking). So oddly enough, your recovery content will be more immediately relevant to me than the usual training content 😅 (but I like that too of course). Already you are doing a great job by getting to the doctor so quickly and making a plan! My favorite content is anything you and Pat do together, whether it is food, training, or strategy, etc. It's all fun. Take care and I look forward sharing the recovery path as you get better and better.

Oh, Gwen, I'm bummed to see you injured. You're such a positive, humble, and kind person. I know you're resilient, you have the best care from your medical team and family, and you'll recover well; still, I wish you didn't have to go through this. I'm recovering from a broken metacarpal (even with a cast, it was really just an inconvenience), and have never had a broken collarbone - and don't want to. Take care, heal well, stay strong.

Broke mine 2 yrs ago in 3 places. Also had surgery, plate, 12 screws. After surgery I didn't have any pain, but it was 3 weeks no running, 8 weeks no swimming and 10 weeks no lifting. Your issue with biking is going to be putting weight on the shoulder. I was able to sit up on the trainer after 2 weeks, but it was a good 8 weeks before my shoulder was able to handle the bumps, rough surface jarring, etc with riding outdoors. I only mention all this, because you talked about googling "how long until you can do X with a broken collarbone" I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Oh, no! Collarbones suck. So sorry. I broke mine once, but not badly. My late husband was a Cat 1 road biker, and he broke both of his collarbones badly in crits on different occasions; he had to have them both plated. (They collapsed his lungs because they broke into multiple pieces and were straight up and down.) He was back on his trainer quickly following surgery (within a couple days of returning home from the chest tube for the collapsed lung), and two weeks before riding outside. He wasn't a triathlete, though. Not great memories! The only long-term issue was the screws/plates hurt a bit when he carried a backpack later because there is not much padding in that area of the body. We did search and rescue, so he carried a pretty heavy pack. Again, so sorry. You are rockstar! You will heal quickly! Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

Broke mine 3 months ago. Looked at least as bad as yours (but close). Swimming has been the slowest thing to come back to. My mistake was not doing the trainer on recommendation from my surgeon, I was going to need down weeks but should've been back on trainer in no more than 2 weeks.

Hope you recover soon. Collarbones could actually take 9 months to recover, specially if the plan is to get back to win a medal. Trying to rush things to be ready in 3 months could end up hampering recovery. You might find yourself at the pool trying to second guess whether to finish a workout despite of the pain or let the bone heal some more. Nobody will know the best answer. If the bone were to break again it would be a big setback. So don't be so quick to dismiss doing something as rewarding over the next 10 months.
