More Boggs!!! He’s the reason I started playing banjo.

I love the background. Plenty of history books with a Kentucky long rife and a lever action rifle with it’s box of Winchester ammunition sitting below it. You are a true American.

Great tune and lesson clifton! It always gives me joy when I get the notification that you have posted a lesson video because I will have something to do after work haha. Can't wait for the "shortening bread" and "going up north" lessons! Don't ever stop doing what you do!

Love the hat; much classier than the ball cap.

Very cool. I can't wait to try this when I get home.
(I think I have that same hat. A Dorfman Pacific.)

This song is based on the "Parable of the Prodigal Son" told by Jesus in Luke 15:11-32. I read that Dock Boggs learned this song from his brother-in-law, Lee Hunsucker, who was a preacher.

A Dock Boggs lesson with a copy of Robert Lowell's Collected Poems in the background. You might be the coolest guy in America. O, and two questions while I'm here: did you ever do a video where you played Tinariwen on the banjo here? That comment in your Q&A fascinated me. And have you heard much Mauritanian music, especially with the tidnit? Those cats SUHHHMOKE! OK, three questions: can you give us a video on the paddle peghead, history and your take on them? I first became aware of you from your Pisgah custom review, and you seem to prefer the stripped down design. An aesthetics of paddle pegheads video would be awesome. Thank you for everything.

Bryan, I guess the "paddle" peg head derives from the "rectangular." The straight rectangular peg heads were perhaps the most common type during the 1850s and '60s.

What’s that old lever action above you

I think everything is right except the 4th strring. I believe its a whole step below what you have it tuned to. When I listen to the recording it soudns like boggs is hammering on the second fret throughout the song on that 4th string
