I have a steam deck and its impressive how much technology has improved over the years. A small littel motherboard with a small APU and can do so much these days!
This is the best video about the ROG Ally so far! There are several ones from established reviewers where you have to put a lot of imagination in their storytelling about this device.
@@maxxcon170 Do you regret buying Steam Deck, so you only watch 1 superior video for Steam Deck? just accept that rog ally is 1 level above steam deck lmao

The funny thing to me is that people are saying not worth leaving the steam deck or they rather keep the steam deck . I'm gonna keep the ally and the steam deck 😂
The ROG Ally could be the best thing to happen to Steam since the Steam Deck. Being able to play Steam games on a portable Windows platform is the best of both worlds.
is it? go look at what happens in a head to head of windows vs linux when in 15w mode and the truth becomes clear windows is a bloated mess allyn needs those specs just to handle windows what your actually getting for gaming is not as much as you think the ally is the worst thing to happen to the handheld PC gaming market because it sets back any and all progress valve could have made now instead of valve being able to apply pressure to the gaming industry to increase support for getting anticheat and other games workable on linux theyll just point to ally and say why should we? so now were locked back into the windows ecosystem where we need to spend more money on hardware and even the os just to be able to get a decent performance and alot of what you actually paid for in performance you dont get to use because that gets taken up by windows and having to run it windows is a terrible os for gaming playstation does not use windows nintendo does not use windos and heres the shocker XBOX doesent even use windows it uses a verry verry verry basic stripped back to hell operating system that has only the components needed to run the dashboard and the games themselves no one does this because the less footprint your os takes the more performance you can throw at the games themselves allowing you to keep hardware costs down most games being on windows is not a argument for adopting windoes its a symptom of the problem valve was trying to fix by breaking the strangle hold on gaming windows had and they where doing it in a way that didnt even pull the monopoly over to them the same development into proton that made windows games run on steamdeck makes them work on other os's the only major holdouts was anticheat which valve was slowly making progress towards but now why bother ea activision epic and all the others who barley gave a fuck about there users in the first place will just say fuck em tell em to buy a ally if they wanna play games being on windows was never because windows was good they was on windows because that was the platform that most people had
@@Sarge92 well, it’s interesting that you would mention ‘anti-cheat’. Some of us (myself included) need to run apps that make games easier. I am 73, with arthritic hands. I regularly run WeMod or Cheat Engine….in single player mode only, of course. Valve’s adamant refusal to allow these tools to run on the Steam Deck has made it impossible for me to play several games. I can use these tools on Windows easily. Look, nobody is saying that these tool s should be used in any online, multiplayer setting. But offline, it’s no harm, no foul. Valve could easily have worked to implement an offline restricted mode for modders. They have refused to do so. On the other hand, it is easily done in Windows. I look forward to buying and playing Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and other hard games, which I will play offline in ‘easy mode’. Valve gets a sale, I get to play, and I stay offline so nobody else cares.
@@findgod... please. Like it or not, Windows is the de-facto OS for the vast majority of software we can get today. Sneer all you like, but good luck getting most games to run on Linux.
@@mjdibella that's the truth. I run Windows 11 on my deck because I want full compatibility with all games. I'd certainly rather have Steam OS Game Mode UI, but I gladly trade that for much higher compatibility.
I remember trying to use Wine (the base of Proton) 15 years ago. It was really bad to use. It not only required too much tinkering but it was extremely glitchy. It certainly evolved amazingly.
I’ve been using the Ally for over a week and it’s been running great. After you do all the updates, it seems to be running okay without any major issues. Overall, it’s a beast! I’ve been playing a lot of FIFA, COD and NFS. The only major issue to me is the battery life, most of the time I have it plugged in. I can barely get through 2 online fifa matches on full charge. A power bank would be a good investment if I were to use it more on the go. So if you are on the fence, just cop it, it’s an amazing handheld! If you can deal with the normal windows problems and god tier battery life 😂, this thing will NOT disappoint!
@@Ron-hf4nj depende, para ciertos mercados como en latinoamérica dónde no se vende de forma oficial comprar una Steam Deck eleva mucho su costo debido a impuestos a la venta, aduaneros y de importación. thats whats winning me over - outside the whole point of a handheld i cant see the screen in light - its awful unless in the dark outside - my switch OLED doesnt have this problem and it looks like this will not suffer same way
People instead of welcoming new options to the market they are like "hey if you support the steam deck it means you hate the ally and vice versa" console wars will always exist xdd
Ausus has great contrast for an IPS matrix. I thought to buy it, but in Poland, after conversion, including taxes, it comes out to 913 dollars. And for that much there are laptops with rtx3050 ti. Good video😊
yep... the important question is what your needs are. Laptop and handheld.. two different things. For example I can say that for 913 USD I can get much better PC than a laptop :)
@@Simon-ik1kb Yeah for 700$ it’s a really good device but here in Europe Ally is min. 800€ which is basically 880$ and for that price I don’t think Ally is worth it. You can save some more and get yourself a really decent PC.
I have a PC. I'm looking for something mobile. What could I use to continue the game when I'm away from home, and I often am. The mobility of a handheld exceeds that of a laptop, but I don't want to overpay. And since the distribution is different and it will have an impact on the price drop, it's probably worth the wait :)
Definitely an improvement in performance but ill still keep my steam deck. Im happy with the emulation that it does and UI seems easier to navigate especially with the touchpads. Give another year and Im sure that even more competition will arrive.
Took me a while to decide which of these machines I want to buy. After careful consideration, I chose the steam deck. Just bought the 512 gb model for 450 in like new condition on ebay 😁
Asus said those were review units and the X button is now fixed. Let's see though, I remember valve having the same B button issues that was probably fixed lata
@@rickmcintosh3570 That's Valve. They released cad files for steam deck design, ifixit partnership etc. I'll take a broken device from them, because I trust their service and their intention. Asus on the other hand is different and has a long history of bad service
It’ll probably be implemented as a sleep mode that is refined and tweaked for Windows handhelds. Or at least, that’s what I am hoping. We shall see, but it’s very early
@@stealth0n what about the elephant in the room those amazing battery times posted by asus where in 15w mode which when you put both deck and ally into the same power mode with the same resolution the deck storms ahead in performance its only when you crank up to the 25 or higher watt modes that the ally seems to gain any performance advantage which brings us back to the big issue a huge chunk of the allys extra performance goes to hauling microsofts fat ass around infact its kinda pathetic that a native windows program cant run better than the same program running on linux even with the overhead of using the proton adaption layer which itself should put linux behind windows but it doesn't maybe asus should have used this amazing Microsoft partnership for more than a crappy free trial to xbox cloud gaming and instead used it to develop a real skimmed down jeos version of windows for gaming
@@Sarge92 according to reviews, 15W has slightly better performance than Deck, like 15-20% or so. It's 10W or lower that run worse than Deck with the same wattage. Please link the reviews that mention worse performance in 15W scenario, I'd gladly take a look And I'm well aware that the battery life sucks and having a regular Windows installation on such device is crap
Most people aren’t going to be using turbo. Performance mode at 15w is more than enough for most games while still performing better than the steam deck. At that the Ally’s battery life is about equal to the Steam deck
You can easily see the differences in engineering feats by this comparison.. Why would you put 1080p 120hz panel in a handheld console ? Make it 720p or 800p 60hz like SteamDeck and enjoy the extra performance. Screen is already small, and battery is already on a tight budget. Now people will say "then open games in lower resolution" ... Nope, nothing compares to 1:1 native scale. Asus always does this. Gives 2k 360hz screen to a laptop that has lower end mobile GPU. They just throw buch of stacked hardware but don't think mindfully or ponder over it when it comes to engineering.
tbh I hate OLED and any kind of forced obsolescence techs any OLED screen will eventually have shadow and burn-in, I'd much rather stick with IPS for long term use of my devices
Doesnt matter much, the better variants are slightly faster, which is not notable. You wouldnt buy any other version than 64 anyways, thats what the sd slot is for.
From a hardware perspective this is pretty much spot on. From a software perspective the major advantage of the Ally is that instead of you having to spend hours troubleshooting with the Linux mallet to drive that nail all the way in, the Windows hammer will only need one hit. I'm not anti Linux in any way, but if you are getting something for gaming, go Windows. If you are getting a file host or an app/web server for your homelab, go for Linux. "Horses for courses" I believe they say.
@@haakonht Linux is substantially better then windows in many ways with the only thing holding it back being game compatibility. That’s fucking it. Also part of the reason steam chose Linux is because it gave them greater control and ease of development, which means on the technical side asus will have to invest more and it will take longer for them to push out quality of life updates. If the game doesn’t follow blatantly anti-consumer and anti-competitive practices then it runs in Linux just fine
Well the ally is more expensive. I just paid 450 euros for my steam deck new. Bought the smallest version and put in a 512gb ssd which was very cheap. So a difference of 350 euros, which is a lot for me. So I can't really see it as competition
That's a great comparison, thanks. I have my Deck since Q1'22 and am very happy I got it. It cost me 530€ (Basic model + 500GB SSD upgrade and 512GB SD Card). Sure Asus has advantages, but the support Valve gives to the Deck makes me think I got the better product. I also do not play AAA titles from 2022 or beyond except for Elden Ring, so performance is not my main concern.
The same thing here. I got basic deck for half a price of ally which cost in Germany 799 eur. Already have a ps5 so the current gen games are not in priority for me to be played on a steam deck
@@clerk1257 also in Germany here :) For the $699 price tag, if it were the same number in Euros, it would be extremely tempting, but 799€ not really. Also a lot of reviewers are pointing at (what is to be expected) bad software. Well Armory Crate is garbage at best and Windows is not meant for handheld gaming. Sure the performance is there, but most people owning a Deck, have at least another more high end machine, be it a PS5 like you or two more PCs like me lol. I am not impressed and I still love my Deck.
Interesting that if you’re playing the Deck at 720p/800p and Ally at 1080p the performance is pretty close if not Identical between them which isn’t bad at all. I know at 720p on the ROG performance is up significantly but I always prefer to run native personally so looking at this there isn’t the headroom for performance like one would have expected.
It is the best hardware comparaison, i have ever seen between SD and Ally. You magnify the overlay and play in the same area. Ally is a good upgrade. Steamdeck continue to do a good job today in 800p.
It is one of the worst, it puts accessories that worsen the quality of the Steam Deck and it does not even show the battery life. Look at the one from Retro Game Corps, it's the best and fairest.
Yes finally an unbias one. If there's one thing Valve is doing right now is they are putting a lot of money into marketing and "free devices" for top content creators. So there is a ton of bias info out there on the Steam Deck. Ally is the clear winner.
its really not...windows was not designed for use with a controller...the strength of windows isnt ease of use ..its compatibility..using an analogue stick as a mouse is really bad..
Windows is designed for mouse/keyboard, SteamOS for a controller and the desktop for Trackpads. Windows is harder to use in terms of usability, it's just better in terms of compatibility.
@@XxFran8234xX SteamOS's desktop, KDE Plasma, was not designed for trackpads on SteamOS. Rather, trackpads were added to the Steam Deck to make using the desktop better. It is still not ideal.
Honestly for the 2 trackpads and 4 back buttons I’d keep my deck over all the better specs the rog has but only thing I really care for is it running windows
Thank you for this analyze. For me looks like it's not worth to upgrade from Steam Deck at all. Performance SD 800p vs ROG 1080p is very similar. On such small sized screens, 1080p is not a a very big improvement from 800p. Also I like 16:10 aspect ratio.
Exactly it’s actually disappointing because this SOC is capable of a lot more. Asus went cheap with the ram it should be the 7500mhz variant and windows 11 which has high overhead costs. If valve makes a handheld with the 7840 it will be legitimately twice the performance of not more. SteamOS is a streamlined operating system of beauty especially with game scope! I knew windows was going to have crazy overhead smh. Hopefully valve decides to release one later this year or next but if they wait that will be even better next gen amd igpus should run 1080p native 60fps
This is how you make a comparison, min 5:50 SD 720p 34fps vs Asus 720p 58fps, it has almost x2 power, you can't compare 720p vs 1080p. I think if you get Asus and downclock it, it will beat SteamD in every single way, including the battery lifetime. you might even get x2 more battery if you downclock it to have the same performance as SteamD since it has a newer chip that consumes less power to do the same task, but out of the box, Asus consume more power since its 1080p 120hz. If only Asus screen was Oled.
bad comparison. you didn't show the TDP you use on the ally - not many ppl will play at high TDPs because it drains the battery fast , there are already many devices like AYANEO ,OXP and GPD that can outperform the steamdeck , but at higher TDPs . so ally doesn't really bring anything new to the market besides the price. valve knew that we are limited on the battery technology that is why they made a chip that is optimized on low TDPs and its outperforms the ally on those low TDPs.
Your right and no handheld has beat the deck in 15 watt battery to performance ratio. I have a Legion Go which is amazing with that big screen. The OLED limited edition steam deck is just so nice tho.
Ahora me pregunto.
There are glaring issues like battery life, but that can be explained since windows loves to run a lot of stuff in the background. I reckon waiting for the next generation of the ally is a better choice.
Meh, not worth it. In the same resolution performance increase 30-50%, but it's still unoptimized windows 11 for portable devices & smaller battery life. There's some tests already indicating that on 8-10w steamdeck sometimes even faster due to custom CPU not a laptop ripoff
Not what I expected as well, running native at 1080p the performance is about the same. So the performance gain is just used to accommodate higher screen resolution 😢
I don't why everyone compares the OS when comparing the two. On Steam Deck you can get Windows and on Ally Rog you can get a modded Steam OS like I have on my Ally Rog. If you want to compare do a video on Steam OS vs Windows do on one device and see which is better OS.
@@coolmodee Yes but what wattage was the ally running in the video? That was the point of my question, the max wattage of the Ally is 30W which is what I was referring to.
Lets not forget that 1080p is basically around 2x as many pixels as 720p so if you look at it in that way then the rog ally is consistently delivering over twice the performance of the steam deck
In Europe: Steam Deck 512GB Comparison: Price difference US: +50$ ✅ Price difference EU: +120€🤯 (130$) Of course the price-performance ratio is still good but €799 is €799. SD 512GB 679€ vs ROG Ally 799€
Im happy with steam deck ,and in 2 to 3 years wen the steam deck 2 comes ill buy that My days of building pcs and buying graphic cards are over ,last pc built in lock down and man i got riped off
Steam Deck clearly has a battery advantage, but anyone who says it's better than Rog Ally is lying to themselves probably wants to justify their purchase. It's not just about the maximum resolution or refresh rate of the display, rog ally's display offers better quality overall.
It depends on what you want, the deck is a streamlined device that excels in low tdp for longer battery. For example I can play persona 5 on 30 locked with 5 tdp for hours. The ally cannot do that
The huge lack of inputs on the ally also make it even more pointless. Your use case is plugged in/docked 247. I'm good off that. I got my Xbox and pc for that lol, battery life is one of the most important things on a handheld. And I don't play controller supported games only I like mmorpgs and rts games as well which would be horrendous to play without trackpads. This is literally just a more portable laptop with worse battery life
yo the comment.. lol just enjoy it bro It's a handheld it's the same, playing game when you outside home.. whether the Perfomance or Resolution is bad just enjoy it,, you bought it with you're money so just enjoy it the thing is It's the same Handheld Console but With Different Processor and GPU and look.. Whatever it's Steam Deck or ROG Ally you still can play some AAA Game's so just Enjoy it
I’m buying Rog ally because 1. I’m getting into pc gaming in a few years and want to build my library. 2. Always on the go so it will be nice and convenient. 3. I have baby hands so it’s better than the steam deck
The ROG has way more wiggle room, SD has 1.8 teraflops...the Ally has 8.6 teraflops, that's not everything but that's WAY more future proof for sure. That's more powerful than the One X which is 6 teraflops. And the PS5 has 10. Not to shabby for a handheld.
People dont understand that steam deck pro is price. With 400 you cant build a pc with a good dedicated gpu, and the steam deck just for 400 dollars you can take whereever you want your pc library. Consoles like aya neo or rog ally that try to copy it lose that main pro
It comes down to preferences and what you want from a handheld. Hence, why it's not a cut and dry answer. I think which is better really doesn't matter. Many of us prefer driving different cars. You might drive a sedan, coupe, SUV, truck, van, etc. Maybe you prefer a motorcycle. That's the same here. What if I prefer saving $200 and getting the Deck? Am I making a wrong decision because I do not need the most powerful handheld? I'm already happy with Vita and Switch graphics! I think both of these handhelds are pretty cool. They both have crappy battery life and some might be better off getting a real gaming laptop. Expect 90-100 minutes of gameplay. If I had to pick one, it's easily the Steam Deck even with its inferior specs. I just trust Valve more than Asus. Their ecosystem and online community support is better. Will probably have better accessories since the installed base is higher. Don't have the greatest history with Asus or Windows or two of them together. I will never forget that Asus Transformer tablet. I had to set the lid when closed to shut down because if I didn't, battery life would die overnight in standby from a 100% charge. Then it happened again a year later on my Zenfone Go. I never looked at Asus ever again after that. I've seen reviews for the ROG Ally and they're not the highest scores. The Verge gave it 5/10. Another gave it a 6/10. Another gave it 4/5 stars. Some are saying it's not really the Steam Deck killer or whatever. Hence, I had a feeling it's just a new "flavor of the week". I doubt a Steam Deck killer will ever exist unless they match that $399 price tag and have a site you can download games. As for me, I'm just waiting for the next Switch. Switch 2? Super Switch Entertainment System (SSES)? Switch Ultra 64? Switch U? Whatever the hell they'll call it. I do prefer the simpler pick up and play. No fuss about it. No jumping through hoops. And I'm not the biggest Nintendo fanboy at all. Don't play Pokémon, Smash Bros, Metroid, or even much Zelda. I play Super Mario games and Mario Kart games, that's really it. I prefer the Japanese-style games. Notice Mario and Solid Snake are American characters written by Japanese men? I find that cool seeing an American character from a Japanese man's perspective. My childhood was mostly shaped by Japanese developers like Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Square, Namco, Capcom, Konami, etc. Before gaming became more Westernized by the 2000s with PCs and Xboxes. Before all the first-person shooters that flooded the market. So I'll always prefer a Japanese company for my gaming needs even if that company from Kyoto can act like real, evil, corporate jackasses. Hurry up with that next Switch, Nintendo! On par to a PS4? - This review was conducted with the pre-release firmware on ASUS ROG Ally. Its performance might change in the final version.
- ASUS will release 2 models of ROG Ally. The Z1 Extreme version will be released on June 13 for 799€. For more information, visit this link: es.rog.gg/ROGALLY_media
- All games reviewed in this video correspond to the Steam version.
- In terms of materials, ergonomics, display and sound ROG Ally is a substantial improvement over Steam Deck.
- ROG Ally uses a 1080p/120Hz IPS display with Freesync versus Steam Deck's 800p/60Hz LCD.
- Running Windows 11, ROG Ally gives us access to any client available on PC. From Steam, to Epic Games or Xbox Game Pass.
- Steam Deck takes advantage in some aspects better of your hardware thanks to its custom OS and Gaming mode.
- Valve also collaborates with some developers to optimize their games on Steam Deck and this makes the differences with ROG Ally not too far apart in some titles.
- However, ROG Ally hardware can outperform Steam Deck by up to 20/30fps running at its native resolutions as a general rule.
- Load times on ROG Ally are faster when turning it on, starting games or within the game itself.
- ASUS has started down a promising path into handheld PCs. If it continues to work to optimize the ROG Ally hardware, Valve would have its work cut out for it with the successor to Steam Deck.

The ROG Ally could be the best thing to happen to Steam since the Steam Deck. Being able to play Steam games on a portable Windows platform is the best of both worlds.
is it? go look at what happens in a head to head of windows vs linux when in 15w mode and the truth becomes clear windows is a bloated mess allyn needs those specs just to handle windows what your actually getting for gaming is not as much as you think
the ally is the worst thing to happen to the handheld PC gaming market
because it sets back any and all progress valve could have made now instead of valve being able to apply pressure to the gaming industry to increase support for getting anticheat and other games workable on linux theyll just point to ally and say why should we?
so now were locked back into the windows ecosystem where we need to spend more money on hardware and even the os just to be able to get a decent performance and alot of what you actually paid for in performance you dont get to use because that gets taken up by windows and having to run it
windows is a terrible os for gaming
playstation does not use windows
nintendo does not use windos
and heres the shocker XBOX doesent even use windows it uses a verry verry verry basic stripped back to hell operating system that has only the components needed to run the dashboard and the games themselves
no one does this because the less footprint your os takes the more performance you can throw at the games themselves allowing you to keep hardware costs down
most games being on windows is not a argument for adopting windoes its a symptom of the problem valve was trying to fix by breaking the strangle hold on gaming windows had and they where doing it in a way that didnt even pull the monopoly over to them the same development into proton that made windows games run on steamdeck makes them work on other os's
the only major holdouts was anticheat which valve was slowly making progress towards but now why bother ea activision epic and all the others who barley gave a fuck about there users in the first place will just say fuck em tell em to buy a ally if they wanna play
games being on windows was never because windows was good they was on windows because that was the platform that most people had

I thought about it too, but c'mon it's almost double the price. Steam Deck + 512GB SSD costs 2100 zł (460€) and Asus Ally costs 3799 zł (830€) 😔
What no one mentions is that it is using Turbo mode 🔥 where the battery lasts less than 1 hour.
Turbo mode is only accessible when plugged into power for the ROG Ally
@@jumper55fulIt's not, but it is 25W when unplugged and 30W when plugged
@@stealth0n what about the elephant in the room those amazing battery times posted by asus where in 15w mode which when you put both deck and ally into the same power mode with the same resolution the deck storms ahead in performance its only when you crank up to the 25 or higher watt modes that the ally seems to gain any performance advantage which brings us back to the big issue
a huge chunk of the allys extra performance goes to hauling microsofts fat ass around infact its kinda pathetic that a native windows program cant run better than the same program running on linux even with the overhead of using the proton adaption layer which itself should put linux behind windows but it doesn't
maybe asus should have used this amazing Microsoft partnership for more than a crappy free trial to xbox cloud gaming and instead used it
to develop a real skimmed down jeos version of windows for gaming
@@Sarge92 according to reviews, 15W has slightly better performance than Deck, like 15-20% or so. It's 10W or lower that run worse than Deck with the same wattage. Please link the reviews that mention worse performance in 15W scenario, I'd gladly take a look
And I'm well aware that the battery life sucks and having a regular Windows installation on such device is crap
They just throw buch of stacked hardware but don't think mindfully or ponder over it when it comes to engineering.
then use fsr to upscale from 720p and it will look better without much of battery cost.
ROG Ally's display looks like OLED and it's good to see.
Unfortunately valve really cheap out when it came to the screen. Even the OG switch has a better screen
tbh I hate OLED and any kind of forced obsolescence techs
any OLED screen will eventually have shadow and burn-in, I'd much rather stick with IPS for long term use of my devices
Nice comparison tests, which deck did you run your timing/tests on? the 64GB eMMC SSD model or the 256/512GB NVME SSD model(s) ?
Doesnt matter much, the better variants are slightly faster, which is not notable. You wouldnt buy any other version than 64 anyways, thats what the sd slot is for.
This is a very good comparison for the screen quality, even though I love the steam deck, the screen is absolutely trash on it.
basically steam deck frame rate performance but at 1080p, for those who don’t want to watch the whole thing

Identical between them which isn’t bad at all. I know at 720p on the ROG performance is up significantly but I always prefer to run native personally so looking at this there isn’t the headroom for performance like one would have expected.

Thank you for this analyze. For me looks like it's not worth to upgrade from Steam Deck at all. Performance SD 800p vs ROG 1080p is very similar. On such small sized screens, 1080p is not a a very big improvement from 800p. Also I like 16:10 aspect ratio.
God of War clearly looked much better on the rog
Exactly it’s actually disappointing because this SOC is capable of a lot more. Asus went cheap with the ram it should be the 7500mhz variant and windows 11 which has high overhead costs. If valve makes a handheld with the 7840 it will be legitimately twice the performance of not more. SteamOS is a streamlined operating system of beauty especially with game scope! I knew windows was going to have crazy overhead smh. Hopefully valve decides to release one later this year or next but if they wait that will be even better next gen amd igpus should run 1080p native 60fps
U need to get the ally and play it on ur own hands, see the difference, steam is weak. instead watching a video lol
If only Asus screen was Oled.
bad comparison. you didn't show the TDP you use on the ally - not many ppl will play at high TDPs because it drains the battery fast , there are already many devices like AYANEO ,OXP and GPD that can outperform the steamdeck , but at higher TDPs . so ally doesn't really bring anything new to the market besides the price. valve knew that we are limited on the battery technology that is why they made a chip that is optimized on low TDPs and its outperforms the ally on those low TDPs.
true
Very true
Your right and no handheld has beat the deck in 15 watt battery to performance ratio. I have a Legion Go which is amazing with that big screen. The OLED limited edition steam deck is just so nice tho.
@@joehood732what both the legion go and ally get slughtly better frsmes at 15 watts than the stam deck
I never settle for less. Ally all the way!
SteamDeck is much easier to replace parts and you can even get hall effect sticks. Asus I don't believe it will be more forgiving in that aspect.
true. but the ally performance is killing it
@@musquitova especially the screen
True but thankfully I won't have to replace parts on my Deck since I'll be playing the Ally instead once I get one.
Waiting to see if Deck goes on sale.
Would like to see the ally at 720p in games
Ahora me pregunto.
720p is a sweet spot for playing on smaller screen
Increíble video y trabajo!!
There are glaring issues like battery life, but that can be explained since windows loves to run a lot of stuff in the background. I reckon waiting for the next generation of the ally is a better choice.
The Z1 extreme is just a power hog.
for more windows? hell no id sooner wait for steamdeck 2
At the 15w they are about identical but at lower wattages the steam deck consumes less power
I'd take a SteamDeck over that any day. While the screen on the deck sucks, everything else about it is better.
@@KseRBanshee Yeah, 800p for portable gaming is enough, people are still buying switch and playing new Zelda game :)
Steam deck is weak 😂 Lucky i not buy steam deck
@@skyfigurefun do you have the money to buy an ROG Ally?
I don't why everyone compares the OS when comparing the two. On Steam Deck you can get Windows and on Ally Rog you can get a modded Steam OS like I have on my Ally Rog. If you want to compare do a video on Steam OS vs Windows do on one device and see which is better OS.
The fact that it has easy access to the game pass is a plus. I've been a console gamer my whole life, so my steam library is basically non-existent.
Did you make sure to test them at the same wattage? Otherwise you would be playing for less than 1 hour in the Ally ;)
Max wattage on the steam deck is 15!!!
@@coolmodee Yes but what wattage was the ally running in the video? That was the point of my question, the max wattage of the Ally is 30W which is what I was referring to.
Thanks for the video. How long does the Rog Ally battery lasts when playing a local 1080p video?
Lets not forget that 1080p is basically around 2x as many pixels as 720p so if you look at it in that way then the rog ally is consistently delivering over twice the performance of the steam deck
Native resolution in both. Steam 800p, rog ally 1080p displays.
@@bbee531 yeah because it’s a 16:10 aspect ration. Those extra pixels just add to the length of the device it’s still basically 720p
In Europe: Steam Deck 512GB Comparison:
Price difference US: +50$ ✅
Price difference EU: +120€🤯 (130$)
Of course the price-performance ratio is still good but €799 is €799.
SD 512GB 679€ vs ROG Ally 799€
Does it or not the answer aog ally has a better display than the steam deck?
Im happy with steam deck ,and in 2 to 3 years wen the steam deck 2 comes ill buy that
My days of building pcs and buying graphic cards are over ,last pc built in lock down and man i got riped off
1:56 the steam deck uses a custom APU made by amd specially made and optimized for the steam deck, it is more literally a pc that can run windows
Thanks for the detailed apples to apples comparison.
Did you tested the Z1 or Z1 Extreme in this video?
Is this in turbo mode? Seems low from what I’ve seen on other channels
The ally cannot do that
@@psvitaoled197how do you know? …. Have you tried it on the ally?
@Noooo Sirrrr alright fanboy, calm down. This has all been tested
This is literally just a more portable laptop with worse battery life
@@JDabz96 bro go smoke a blunt and stfu 😂😂
Considering the specs on the ally the steam deck ain't doing bad.
The screen is much superior on the ally though.
yo the comment.. lol just enjoy it bro It's a handheld it's the same, playing game when you outside home.. whether the Perfomance or Resolution is bad just enjoy it,, you bought it with you're money so just enjoy it the thing is It's the same Handheld Console but With Different Processor and GPU and look.. Whatever it's Steam Deck or ROG Ally you still can play some AAA Game's so just Enjoy it
Z1 extreme will improve. Huge cpu bottleneck at 720p or 1080p fsr quality. Drivers still in beta.
Wish there is a battery life test from latest AAA title to old AAA ,and indie games.
I’m buying Rog ally because 1. I’m getting into pc gaming in a few years and want to build my library. 2. Always on the go so it will be nice and convenient. 3. I have baby hands so it’s better than the steam deck
Definitely Steamdeck.
Asus ROG premium price like always.
Not really. The Ally is pretty price competitive, especially for a device that is still taking a profit unlike some models of the steam deck
Y si no existiera Steam Deck estaríamos pagando 1500€ por Ally.
Or sell the muddy slow deck like I did, take the cash, and buy a ROG for 400 bucks.
Thank you very good Content
The ROG has way more wiggle room, SD has 1.8 teraflops...the Ally has 8.6 teraflops, that's not everything but that's WAY more future proof for sure. That's more powerful than the One X which is 6 teraflops. And the PS5 has 10. Not to shabby for a handheld.
People dont understand that steam deck pro is price. With 400 you cant build a pc with a good dedicated gpu, and the steam deck just for 400 dollars you can take whereever you want your pc library. Consoles like aya neo or rog ally that try to copy it lose that main pro
Steam deck is fking weak get over it
ROG Ally screen and colors are a lot better.
Bring it! I hope we'll get over 5-hours battery life like we're getting with the Switch OLED instead of 1.5 we're mostly getting with the Deck and Ally for AAA titles.
45fps es el sweet spot. Sigue subiendo videos del Ally
