Not to be rude or anything but this loss of men had little to do with unit quality. First of all you invaded from all directions for no reason that means every arrow tower in the settlement shot your men and you can't be at every place at the same time that is the reason all your ranged units died. Then with the part of your army the general was with there were two ways to get to your skirmishers you had an elite unit and two melee units you sent them all one way and send two ranged units the other obviusly the roman attacks the ranged units. The reason for the loss of men was the amount of uneccesary deaths from the flaw of your strategy. Sorry for my grammar english is not my mother language. And again not hating on lionheart i am a big fan everyone makes mistakes even me. But just saying how he could have saved these men so maybe this doesnt happen again.
I realize this is a really old gameplay, but I 100% agree. I did my own playthrough with the saxons and pretty much did the same thing here, but i kept all my troops hidden until most of the enemy was dead, then I entered the city from 3 sides. Only lost ~300 troops
To be historically accurate, it'd be a nice touch to invade England with Hengist and Horsa. They were the Anglo-Saxons that helped fight off the Caledonians, and eventually conquered Brittania :D
Bit late, but just been reading about this so thought id share lol.... The Hengist/Horsa origin story might just be a myth. Apparently lots of European civilizations had myths about two brothers with similar sounding names who travelled to new lands and established their own cities/colonies. It was a common trope throughout ancient Europe. Romulus and Remus are probably the most famous. There were a few more that i cant remember off the top of my head. So might not be true, but just as fascinating imo
after seeing the 3 celtic factions I'm 100 % certain that there will be a 'celtic DLC' and they will name it 'celtic dlc' or 'britain dlc' or 'bain of rome dlc'
Got to love Creative Assembly. Releasing things that should be in the base game as DLC instead of something genuinely new. I think they've forgotten what new features even are.
xEl Gringo Loco Even if the DLC don't really include features, considering it's mainly units or factions. The only real feature that comes in DLC is the blood pack, and you can get new units for the mods that will come out. So the only thing you really have to pay for is new factions. And yet I get your point. Although, they did release new features for rome 2 in the shape of the emperor edition, if I'm not mistaken. Besides, if they kept adding more features to the game, that could mess with the saves, which is not really what you want, is it now? I believe I've made my point.
Christian Weibrecht few and weak? there is a reason that the romans left britania because it was to hard to maintain. There is a reason the build a big ass wall in the north of england
I guess I was lucky then. I saw a small roman force sitting outside Londinium, so I attacked and destroyed it along with the garrison. But it might have to do that the romans had problems up north (2 turns later lindum was razed).
I view this as a continuation of my TW: Rome 2 playthrough. story: The Suebi empire, which controlled northern Spain/Hispania, northeastern France, Germany/Germania, Denmark, Corsica, Sardinia and a teeny tiny corner of southern britain was beaten back by the Masaesyli and Iceni and a century later splintered into several successor kingdoms. Speaking of Successor kingdoms, the Macedonians, who conquered all of Greece, Thrace, southern Illyria, Sicily and the entire Iberian peninsula well before the Suebi even went for Roma (A massive failure that was basically the catalyst for their destruction, much like the british empire milennia later) were destroyed in the most interesting way possible: Markus Tullius, the first roman macedonian emperor, basically morphed Macedon back into Rome 70 years after being conquered, even changing the name to Rome. A nonexistent civilisation bringing about the destruction of their conquerors and reemerging in the process. edit: the new romans did everything the romans did in actual history
You should abandon your territory in Saxony and focus on Britannia. I wouldn't want to be in central Europe when the Huns arrive. I'm not sure if the Saxons can horde or not, but if they can that makes it even easier.
The DNA for a modern person from England is usually 55% Germanic which includes the Anglo Saxons and Danes since they were related genetically and 45% Celtic.
Do your best to keep peace around your Capital. Focus as much as you can on economy in both your Capital and Britain. Try to make gains in Britain before they can properly reinforce, but make sure your forces are replenished, and in high numbers. Try to get trade with the Nordic factions, just so they stay happy with you, and you get their money. Raise a small navy in Britain and put a few skirmisher and melee ships in it. Use them to block off the walk through area between Gaul and Britain, forcing them to turn into transport ships, making them easier to kill. Keep up the great work!
Hope we're enjoying the game?!?! I have to set an alarm at around 06:00 AM to let myself know it might be a good idea to go to sleep. The benefit of being laid off recently, I have all the time in the world for TW. Been playing as Geats and figured I don't want to spend time and money building an empire when the Huns will become a problem. So immediately after starting the campaign I placed two armies on boats and sent them across the channel. Took Scotland then Ireland and then Wales, fortified my position behind Hadrian's wall and then went on to take Britain. Now I own the islands which, according to the history books, the Huns will never reach. Not that it matters. Cause the politics are killing me, that and clearly unfair buff the AI gets in terms of how many quality armies they can field despite not having the infrastructure to support it. I wipe out two entire Saxon armies they land on my island and think now is the time to invade and sack them shizzle out of them only to see they have two more full stacks with three and four star generals just chillin' there. I was hoping CA would stop doing that crap with Attila. Still, it's an amazing game.
Looks like you're going to be busy for a looong time again. Oh well. ;) Did you see HeirofCarthage's play of this battle as the Romans? Worth a look. :)
lighting an "enemy" settlement ablaze when they have 4 units of defenders to your 10 isn't really a good thing. It will mean you'll inherit a damaged settlement when you already had the enemy outnumbered and the morale boost from fire arrows was superfluous.

Oh wow. Quite surprising to see actual historical people like Hengist and Horsa in the game as opposed to random name generator Germanian #461325. Props to CA there.
I agree. But then again, with less turns a year, you have way less family members over time, so they could have done more easily then in rome 2. Usually in a campaign, there will only die like maybe two generations. Depending on your playing style of course.
So in fact it was better to autoresolve the battle for Camulodunum. But i know autoresolve is for weaklings. So far Attila looks very interesting. I like your way of strategy so I enjoy your Let's Plays (I'm totally new to your channel). Can't wait for more.
When I did this battle, I just drew out the romans one unit at a time with by cavalry and so just slaughtered them when they left the safety of the settlement
In a future, not so far away, the script will be flipped and LionHeart will have to lead the Western Roman Empire and defend attacks from the very nation he is leading here.
If you go and sally out to meet the Romans take the Mercenary Horses and maybe some extra infantry to take the main blow in losses, sins you can use them then trow them aside after the battle.
Nice video! Wonder if naval units are going to be as important as Rome2. I started off Atilla weak in the Navy and have already had some set backs due to that lack.

Marco Peterson Sounds awsome! I almost finished rendering my first Total war Video, Feel free to check it out. :D Best of luck in the Future! And i just wasted like 3 hours waiting for the video to finish rendering.. And this result is what i get "The Video is too long" ...
+Marco Peterson I would rather conquer all viking lands, since you get more economic benefits if you control whole province. But viking units are rather weak at first, so it does not work like in vikings tv series. In a long battle, they just lose. But Attila is the hardest Total War, since empire management is much more complex. If you try to rush your enemies at the start of campaign, you just get killed.
The way I see it is that while you expand your farms, you get more lands to fewer people (like an early enclosure), thus more people get unemployed and live in squalor. Also, that expansion might be destroying cottages/homes, reverting the course of rivers etc.
Oh Awesome, you get the legendary brothers Hengist and Horsa as nobles in this game, even though they're supposed to be Jutes, the character named Eomer is a nice touch as well.

Did they not fix something that isn't broke or did they make the most beautiful reskin ever?
Lionheart really needs to get better with the battles.
Why do the pastures cost more after you issue the provincial edict to decrease construction costs?
the citys are way too big in Rome 2
This game looks awesome.
You should hold up where you are, build up your numbers, and let the Romans come to you.
Well damn me.HOW CAN THIS BE SO GOOD ON LAUNCH WHEN ROME SUCKED!!They added family tree, politics and much more!!!I must be dreaming!
Call me a fogey but i always preferred Medieval Total war/ the first risk style one.
Why building a farm makes -1 public order what is the logic for that
Maybe.... Evil livestock? :O
yeah like evil sheep and chicken hords
poisonedtanto Bigger farms mean more food and more food make people happy should be +1
Angry addict If it has livestock, it would mean more shit and stink. That would really annoy me, even if there was more food.
Hey lionheart what type of pc do you game with, or did you build your own system
What difficulty do you play you're campaigns and battles on?
i own this game to honestly a head on battle would of been better rather then doing all stuff ive played as saxons before
YUS A NEW VIDEO.... VIKING STYLE
What does the -50 conversion rates for buildings mean. It sounds like a disadvantage buts its listed like a buff.
+doubelieveinzombies I think it means that it's either (a) quicker to convert buildings or (b) costs less to convert buildings.
they can form shield walls right? i'll be pissed if the saxons, danes etc don't
U actually did a shit load of friendly fire in the battle
Hi lionheart. Suggestion, maybe try some Team Fortress 2 videos?
