    Morning Reg ! Hope I can say this right. When you were explaining to us after climbing to the work zone I couldn't help thinking , How calm your voice was after that climb. Reminded me of Watching a racing driver speaking from the cockpit doing 180 mph with normal heart rate so calm fully in control ,when most people couldn't even speak !
    You are so Professional Reg , you make it seem effortless !! which we all know it's not of course. Great Video Thank you .

    I still love that second line setup ! Especially with the added pulley ! It IS worth that extra Minuit to rig the limb if not sure where it will land ! The best arborists POV video in some time ! With everything else going it's hard to keep a positive mental attitude ! Thank you Reg !

    Hi Reg. Once again your guidance is right on target for an upcoming job. I'll be pruning spruce branches over hanging a car park. Your addition of a pulley onto your rigging line looks great and I'll be trying that.
    Did you prune back to a co-dominant branch in all cases or do you find conifers can tolerate mid branch pruning? Thanks for your consideration to this request.
    Chris

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I try to pick a decent lateral to prune to Chris. But the limbs surviving post pruning seems to hinge more significantly on what percentage of foliage is retained along the limbs as a whole. Which is why you have to resist the temptation to prune for your own climbing/access convenience, and tread lightly so you don't accidentally snap the delicate foliage along the way.

    21:00 you talk about Mechanical Devices I agree with you 100% that is why when I set out on this project of the zrunnerselfrescuesystem I made sure I didn't worry about the weight of the device I did not worry about the size of the device did what made sense for the newcomers and seasoned people of the industry to finally have the mechanical device with a breaking strength that's touching numbers around 90,000 lb
    The zrunnerselfrescuesystem is 100% stainless steel there are no rivets! There are only grade 8 Nuts and Bolts to allow a fully adjustable system that is frictionless when you do not have it waited to make tending slack a dream come true. And now the system has its measurements where this device works like no one else's device. It is a 360 degree friction at the top with a cantilever system at the bottom allowing climbers tending slack using the bigger muscle groups of the body with just a few Common Sense steps put into the Rope.

    Good Job, I have often wondered what affect the pruning of Conifer limbs has on the tree, or I guess more on the effect it has on the limb itself? Also Reg, what about the Hitch Hiker? I like it because it's so much shorter than the wrench but still nothing to break.

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Bruce. I base the extent and style of pruning on the current form and vigor of the individual tree. In most cases it seems like they will tolerate upto 30 percent foliage removal per limb. But one must consider the timing also. I think the end of summer is not good, because the fall winds can blow the through and remove a large amount of the now exposed foliage that you wanted to retain. So ideally I like to prune just prior to the growing season. I didn't like that the HH was not mid line attachable....this being particularly significant on tall trees where you might use 2 seperate accent lines, like the tree in the vid. I dont like relying on 2 little stopper knots instead of spliced eyes. And I didn't like the finicky way you link it to a chest harness. The action of it on the line too just seemed too sudden to release, and then to slow to stop. Just wasn't for me, though I did try to make it work

    Cheers I also work alone, so I'm looking for a new idea. my question is, on your initial accent it appeared you were base tied. Then you show us you are DRT. How did you accomplish this? Take up a second climb line? Or am I wrong and you were not base tied? I'm just curious. I'm 45 yrs. and have had shoulder surgeries so I tend to climb up SRT and "work" the tree DRT , I like the Mechanical advantage of DRT. So I base tie go up SRT and carry up a second system to use DRT. Or I use both, but I rely on the DRT more.
