The warmth weight indicates the type of feathers used to stuff the jacket, not the degree of stuffing it has. Different types of feathers have varying degrees of warmth they provide per their unit weight and therefore differ in their monetary value. The rule is this: the higher the fill power, the lighter weight the jacket for the same warmth a heavier weight jacket would provide. 550 to 650 is less valuable. 700 and up are your mountain Hardwear Ghost whisperer and more REI brand quality jackets. Once you hit 800 FP, the jackets retail for about $300+. We're talking Arc'teryx level now. The highest is 1000. You might find it in the Montbell brand but it's very rare and not commonly made.
Such good info. Thanks!
same applies to sleeping bags and quilts! not that i've ever found a down one in a thrift store but one can hope
Absolutely, just picked up a north face McMurdo arctic expedition Parka yesterday for $3.99 at a thrift store. It’s worth $200 to $300 all day. smaller thrift stores don’t want to hold items.
Oh yes let me start listing those cashmere sweaters I thrifted durning the summer when everyone was donating their winter stuff🙌🏻
Just sold an Eddie Bauer puffer today for $64!
Awesome!!
Down jacket is a staple in the backpacker wardrobe. Goose/duck feathers have the highest warmth to weight ratio of any material due to warm air convection current insulation between the feathers when lofted. As long as the item doesn’t get wet it keeps you warm. So puffer down, particularly ultralight or UL, slim packable down jackets are actually a SUMMER item because peak backpacking season is from July, august, first half of September. It is then used in the fall and winter as insulation for the same reason! Hope this helps
It does, thanks!
I love to find puffer jacket; I have found some good one I also love Fleece for myself
Kind of a goofy trick for figuring out if it's down or not, scan around the seams and you'll usually spot little white bits of down or feathers peeking out, even on expensive stuff
One way to quickly determine if a puffer is down without looking at the tag is to rub the insulation between your fingers. If it has texture it is likely down, if it is smooth it is probably a poly fill. This saves me time, especially at the bins when handling hundreds of items!
Great tip!
Yep, same here. Fall is selling.
Oh Caley, I haven’t even had my summer yet in the PNW. I need my sun. So sad everyone is doing fall, Halloween and Christmas already.😥😢
Great info! Just listed a cashmere sweater yesterday!
Love this! So informative! Can’t wait for this to be a series!
Fall and winter clothing are flying out from my closet. I do sell men's clothing as my niche and I already saw the shift in Seasonality.
Just sold an Everlane cashmere sweater over the weekend. Size small too
Aloha from Hawaii! Thank you for sharing!!
Thoughts on cleaning cashmere pieces?
I personally am terrified to try lol. I know some people use baby shampoo or I think it's called woolite.
Great video as always!!! That was a good thing to point out about the sherpa lululemon. Would have never looked for that. But I did find a lulu Cropped hoodie I watched someone throw it down so I picked it up and actually looked at it. It was a win win for me!!! Good luck all!!!!
Yay!
Such a great video Cayley 🥰💜
Thank you! 🤗
Thanks!
Call me crazy but I pick up winter year around. I'm much pickier in the late spring and early summer about winter but I pick it up year round. But I'm in Canada so we have lots of winter. But even in the highs of summer I cant resist cashmere, alpaca or wool at a good price. I have no idea what I'd source if i lived in like texas or something, with summer stuff having such a low ASP.
Same! I pick up all year round but am just pickier in the off seasons.
Well I live in a hot area and I just sold a NWT bikini bottom for $100 and a bikini top for $80. Summer items can be high asp if you know what to look for.
I thrifted a cashmere black sweater and got home and lo and behold I found a hole and hope I can fix it..any ideas what to do . Thanks.
If it's a great brand, you can list it with the hole for a dropped price.
I just sold a cashmere sweater from Charter Club with a small hole for $20. But was aware.
❤❤❤❤
What would you recommend for a small coset for sourcing right now? Still get summer, but also get fall/winter?
Yep! Same strategy applies.
@@cayleyelaine thanks for the response 😊
