Nearly finished building my Talons proxy team, The Claws Of House Belisarius. Part Investigator Inquisitor retinue, part Navigator House mercenary band. It's a chiefly a lore based modeling project to come up with an alternative to the regular two-Custodes-five-Sisters team that can still (just about) hold a torch to newer bespoke choices. Painting and basing imminent. And thanks for the video!
I actually always take a sister as a leader. They hit on 2s and the extra wound on them is more beneficial than on a custode ... it just doesn't fit as well with the fluff
Really enjoyed this info, my buddy has been playing Custodes and our crew ~6-8 players have been revived from 40k to Kill Team. Watching all these great videos is bringing us all up to speed on how the game plays with different units... Thanks!!!
In light of recent marines buff, custodes just arent good enough anymore, I'm not saying give them leader as 5th model (to match HI in model count), but 4APL wouldn't be broken compared to newest kill teams. Custodes don't have reliable APx, if they want to be a threat from TP1, they need spears, then then die like flies to plasma or melta ( or their counterparts), if they take shields then they aren't doing much killing TP1. SoS FT gives them more board presence, but isn't helping in the killing department. If You have 2+5 KT, SoS leader might be a better idea, custodes leader get only +1W, while SoS leader gets +1W, and +1WS/BS, which helps with dealing some damage.
It’s an interesting time for Kill Team as we wait for the release of all the “updated” teams like in White Dwarf or Box Sets. I think in the interim we will only see slight balance tweaks. The future is bright, but may take us a little bit to get all the teams there!
eh, i dont think they need re-buffing. I don't get the impression that GW intends for compendium teams to be competitive, just "playable" or they'd have done a bit more to buff marines (like give deathwatch transhuman). Custodes are in a fine spot. You just have to play a bit more for turn 2/3 than expect to come out swinging on turn 1.
@@ChopsTV very true! The compendium has always been a stop gap, I've loved all the specialist teams so far, the game will be in a great spot when each team has one!
Very cool i like the how you could play them style, you should even consider a tournament recap series. Where you can highlight pro level plays etc and how to do them
That would be a great idea! I watched a bit of the Kill Team Open on Kill Team Stream which was great to see some high level play. Fingers crossed we get some good tourneys in Oz that I could get too. Thanks for watching.
Great Video! I've just bought my first Kill Team... One box of Custodes - cheap and easier (?) to paint only 4 models :) I've been looking for guides and this is very good, thanks! Interesting that I've heard more recently that the 2 custodes and 5 sisters is becoming a more competitive build :) Not that I will be with them lol
Necrons are a tough match up, especially if they have lots of Immortals. I would be looking at taking as many of the shields as I can, it'll help mitigate the AP and then use cover as best as you can so you can concentrate on getting into them in close combat ASAP. The shields will help cancel out there attacks. Thats one way to look at it :) Hope that helps!

Yeah the Custode leader only gets an additional wound, I would say it's almost always incorrect to take a Custode leader if you run a mixed team

3:40 Wait what? you got it backwards. Custodes leader only gets +1W, where the Sister gets +1W, +1WS/BS.
Yep, good point, a few people have suggested the better option is to take the Sister as the leader as she gets the 2 benefits in WS/BS and the wound!
I’d contend that you get more mileage by making one of the Sisters of Silence the leader - she gets an extra wound as well as +1 BS/WS.

Completely agree, but I doubt it will come before a specialist team, either in a box or WD

I bought a box or wardens to run as custodes in Kill Team, I like the cloaks, regular guard aren't as pretty.
My mate did this as well to add a bit more flavour to all of them! Good choice!

oooh, I just twigged. Talons lets you do some kinda cool stuff, as well as lower the number of activations to avoid overwatch
It took me a few times to work it out, but if you planned it correctly it can be super effective!!

A new player CAN do worse with competitive teams because they can take experience play maximally. Adeptus Custard is a great starter team.
Why not take a Sister of Silence as your leader instead of a Custodes? The difference between 8 and 9 wounds is bigger than 18 and 19.
