I would never do it again. We turned down the timeshare presentation from "Guest services" they got very aggressive, they got irrationally mad when we told them our employer has a timeshare and we are employee-owned so technically we have a timeshare. They wanted to argue that we were lying and did not own a company. made us super uncomfortable. Also everything we brought back from there needs to be washed multiple times. We'll be using a ozone machine on our luggage to hopefully remove the mold and mildew smell from the room. There is visible black mold in the rooms and in both buffets all over the walls near the air conditioners. Many of us were sick by day 2 or 3 The "beach" is not relaxing unless you enjoy being asked at least 30 times a day to get a massage, purchase cigars jewelry whatever crap they were selling. And they don't simply take no for an answer and walk away.
I'm sorry to hear that. It is a really bad resort. I have no idea why they can't do better. The rooms in the normal area without upgrades are totally falling apart. The upgraded rooms are starting to show a lot of wear also. Its not a clean resort, it is rather disturbing. Sandos should really try to fix this. Their other resorts are not like this.
We came back on the Jan 4th after a one week stay. It was horrible! Wish I had seen this 6 months ago when we booked. Everything in this review is absolutely 100% true. The app was broken and restaurant reservations weren't worth it. 4 of us were violently ill with food poisoning (thankfully short lived as is typical with food poisoning). Bookings for events were impossible. Golf carts were only available for check-in and check-out.
That is very unfortunate. It could be such a good resort, but they are not keeping up with any standards. It had undergone a quick management change but they are back to not caring. Thank you for the comments.
We waited very long for this trip and were sadly very disappointed. I have been to Mexico 5 times and this was by far the worst resort I have stayed at. The description of the resort is not accurate (on the website/ travel sites). It boasts the resort from maybe 10 years ago- it is NOT like that now. The food is the worst I have had at any resort. Very difficult to make reservations (you have to book through an app and they fill up fast). Even the restaurants where they take resos- very poor and bland tasting food and small servings. The only restaurant we enjoyed was the one by the adult pool where they serve fish tacos. Most (not all) bartenders were less than friendly. One in particular at the sports bar would even snicker at us and gave some very poor service. We were with a group of friends who had various nights/ events they were hoping to plan at the Disco- which they do NOT have. They advertise that they have one but it closed during covid and never opened back up. If you plan to do any dancing or socialize with friends after about 10 pm you can’t do it at this resort. There is NO swimmable or walkable beach. Apparently it got ruined during weather or storms years back- either way it is filled with rocks and you cannot enjoy it. HUGE bummer. We still enjoyed our time as we were with our group of friends- so obviously had no choice but to go to this resort. We would not return. Do not waste your money and come here. Only positive point was the greenery/ t jungle you could walk through. And the gym was ok. Just an honest review.
Thank you for your comments. We were looking at this resort because of the water park. Do you know of any water park similar to this one in the area because we also considered Bahia Coba, Ocean Riviera Paradise, and Barcello beach. Could you comment on these or others please. Thanks
Depending on what you are looking for in a water park I would recommend Hotel Xcaret Mexico and Xcaret Arte for older children and adults (its naturally a waterpark in both). If you have younger ones I would recommend Dreams Natura. Many hotels do have smaller water parks - but you could also make a day trip to the waterparks in the area. Some hotels will also offer day passes. So if you see a hotel you love, but has no water park for the kids you can visit other hotels for the day.
How long did you stay for? We only spent 2 days here, so did not get chance to experience everything. I noted they currently put up a huge waterpark for children. So the original poster may find this to book@@francegroulx5786

They were once listed as a 5 Star Resort, but have since dropped that to a 3 Star. This is done by the property themselves, but a lot of listing sites don't update any information, so it remains at a 5 star status. The waterpark area is not cleaned properly and Tortuga pool had a lot of fecal matter. The food in most restaurants is not good, so there is probably a lot of areas where your son could have picked up an illness. I am so sorry this had happened to you and your son. I have been to many resorts across many countries, and this is the first one I found so many problems with. Hopefully others will see this post from you and think twice about this resort.

thanks for the honest review, looking for a place for a family vacation and this one is off the list. also, do you do any voice over work? I swear I have heard your voice before.
I am sorry to hear that. I try to warn others of this resort. The resort recently did a number of fake reviews to boost up their numbers instead of fixing the problems.
ZERO STARS! Worst experience ever. From the beginning: check-in process takes forever! Then, before finishing and stepping into your room, they start offering services and stuff for an extra cost. Rooms are okay, with damaged furniture, a refrigerator that doesn't cool your beverages enough so they end up hot, a poorly cleaned and moldy shower. The A/C broke down, and "we will fix it tomorrow," so we had to sleep in the same room (party of 5, including 2 children). The pools were dirty, including the "aqua park," which was filthy and gross. Really nasty. The staff were rude, and when you approached them to express your concerns, they didn't care at all; they were just focused on taking your money. The spa massage was good, but the front desk was terrible; they didn't mention that you needed to arrive 10 minutes before your service to force you to speed up your service. The hotel won't allow you to order food from outside; if you do, you'll have to walk to the main entrance to pick it up, and it's far. MOSQUITOES ARE HORRIBLE HERE! Additionally, restaurant reservations and information are through their app, which is a pain because the cellular signal is almost non-existent. The night shows are like a cheap town carnival. Zero stars.
11 of my family just stayed there Dec 2023. My wife and I have stayed at many resorts and the list of issues with this resort are long. Our first night was a late arrival no hot food to be found and room service is impossible to reach. After one horrible night we Had to change rooms and pay for an upgrade as the mold smell was overpowering. Food was subpar and only learned of the adult restaurant on second last day. No tour or guide of the resort. In 7 days Could never change money to peso as the front desk never had any. Taxi to a Cenote 15 mins away for our family was 400 Canadian one way. Wtf. Toothpaste was 15 usd. Nothing in the store was reasonable priced. We didn’t like one meal in 8 days. No tv channels worked in the room. No cushions on the wicker furniture but hotel photos show them. When sitting in these it felt like we’re on the floor. I would not recommend this place and the activities stated in your video I was not even aware
They did have a change of management, which improved some aspects of the resort, but they are back to the same old tactics. The food here is terrible, as you noted - which is odd, because their sister resort not 10 min away has excellent food! There are some free activities, but you need to wake up early and book them for that day. It is an inconvenient system but the activities are fun. The concierge service here is beyond lame.
What would you say it’s the best family resort in cancun/playacar? I’ve stayed in the moon palace but it’s 1500 a night, looking for something more affordable
1500 pesos per night for an all inclusive is very reasonable. Most will be a little more. There are several factors when considering a family resort - what do you enjoy doing? how old are your children? etc.
@@experiencethis360 No sir, 1500 a night for 3 adults, 1 child and one infant. Moo Palace was astonishing but just out of budget. We just look for a good beach and good food. Dreams and Palladium looks good, but Palladium’s beach doesn’t look that great
Hello, stayed at sandos caracol for 3 days and couldn’t get much done. Like explained in this video the reservation system is completely different from other places. I couldn’t get seats at neither fogo de brazil or the Japanese restaurants, the personnel told us to check on the app at 3am 😅I tried and the app was closed in matter of minutes. I can’t say nothing bad about the nature aspect it’s absolutely amazing. The service is lacking as well as the food. The food is by far the worst I’ve ever eaten. An employee names Jorge was super helpful and friendly. Other than that I can’t say anything good about this resort. For the price it’s not worth it. They offer 24hr room service but the food is by best mediocre. They absolutely don’t care about the quality of the food at the buffet’s. Skip sandos caracol if you want to have a memorable vacation.
I am sorry to hear that. I've been to many resorts in many countries and this is the only negative one I have reviewed. They did have a management change and things seemed to get back on track, but many people like yourself are reporting that they have slipped back into not caring. You are right, I found the grounds amazing and a few employees were pleasant. Most, I found to be uncaring - a strange thing to happen at a resort. Thank you for your insight and hopefully your next vacation is much better!
There are some sites you need to have booked through them to leave a review. Those I trust. The Google Review sites are filled with fake reviews bought by people.
This is true. People don't generally want to advertise that they have been ripped off. So they settle. I don't like to settle if I feel things are bad and I don't mind telling others. This is the only resort I have come across with such disastrous and dangerous comments from visitors. @@ItsHappeningSomethingutube
This is a review from Google, just a week ago: The pools are disgusting. Our kids came home with HAND FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE and multiple people we saw had raging staph infections creeping out of their swimsuits.
I heard the cenote now has a sewerage problem. I am booking for spring time getaway on expedia, and looked at hotels and this one game up again. Seriously gross.
Im currently trapped on a week long stay due to a family event. My family and I have seen it all here from broken air conditioners, to roaches in the rooms. This place is a nightmare 😂
I hear ya. The upgraded rooms are much better, but come at a hefty sum. Ask if you can move to Sandos Playacar if you can. Its an older upgraded sister resort about 20 min away.
@@sadie-and-jack They did switch around management, but went right back into the delivering a poor experience. The Outbreak of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease is concerning.
The last time I’ve been there in 2015, the beach didn’t looked like that. I mean, it was greenish blueish but it was clear. I saw people swimming at the beach. Overall, the resort was awesome. I don’t know if it’s still great today.
@@axelzauc4204a Hurricane took the beach away. The resort decided not to fix the beach or the buildings along it. They claim its because they are eco, but they dont care about the environment because they are releasing raw sewerage onto the beach. The whole resort went from a 5 star to a 4 and is now a 3star resort. They still advertise the white sand beach lol and pretend its still there.
Yes, there are some amazing resorts nearby. The draw here is the eco part of it. Its OK. but almost fake in a way. With all the upgrades you can actually stay at a 5 star resort.

As a person from BC, Canada, where we have actual rugged coasts, the perspective on this "dangerous" beach is astonishing! I'm curious what people would think of the world class beaches on the east coast of Vancouver Island which are pure rock with barnacles and seaweed galore. Though I understand that expectations for a resort are different, I think the rocky beach is beautiful.
Under the water line is not only rocks, but rebar, cement and aluminum structures left over from when the beach was not abandoned. There is also a 3 foot drop off from a pathway down into a sink hole. There s a "guard" on duty here to try to warm you. But he also mentioned that swimming close to the abandoned beach bar is even more dangerous as a leaking sewer pipe extends outward into the "children's wading" area.
Best of luck! I sold travel for a number of years and their were many places I would never book for my clients, even when they asked directly. Your videos are very well done! I see you have a number of Iberostar Resorts - they are in my opinion much, much better. I will check back later to see your video. Read through some of the comments here to see what others went through at this resort.
@@experiencethis360 Thank you. And yes, Iberostar is on our top being honest. But well, we have to know as many hotels as possible and this one is so popular. Let's see.
My two children 8&12 and I really enjoyed the resort. We were there in March 2022. The shaded trails, animals, Tortuga pool at night are so much fun. Great water park. We had water shoes and could walk out to snorkel at the beach. I really enjoyed our room with a bunkbed and screened in the windows. We will be returning! :)
Seems pretty inaccurate. I was believing maybe it has gotten super bad in the last year since I was there but your saying it has no drinks at check in but it does and it's right next to the elephant bar, only 1 set of ping pong equipment but in your video I see 2 groups of people playing ping pong, no pool bar but it has 2 pool bars and I can see one in your video. Besides that you can stand in line to get in the restaurant if you don't have a reservation 30-45 minutes tops when I was there. I had no problems getting reservation for 2 weeks but if I didn't make it I would stand in line. Beach is rocky in the water and dosnt look sandy like the picture but it's still nice calm water for swimming and snorkeling. I could go on but I only spent 1600 dollars to stay here with 5 people for 2 weeks and that's hard to beat for a decent resort
It has gotten much worse since last year. I was there about four years ago for three days and it was OK. This time it was horrendous. There are no drinks available in the lobby area. In the video you will see a water table, but it comes out on Friday for one night. Ping Pong tables have no equipment. You are asked to "purchase your own" from the on site store. You are not allowed to stand in line for a restaurant. You must use the app now. And the app is flaky and doesnt work. The beach is absolutely disgusting. Did you notice the rusty pipe exhaust from the toilet/change room? This is by far one of the worst resorts I have been to. The quality has gone downhill fast. I wouldn't pay to go here. We got three weeks free to review and I can't recommend it. There are so many better places.
I had to review the footage. Yes, there is a swim up bar. Only one, actually, unless you upgrade ($$$) to the elite section (that pool bar is open throughout the week). I recorded this onsite, and I did a video afterwards and noted the swim up bar is open Sat and Sun only. There was an edit note on the video to clarify.
I am unsure what had happened, but I suspect a management change over. The other resort Sandos Playacar is totally different -great food, clean and the workers seem to enjoy themselves a lot more. This could be a really great resort, if they would just get back to what they were doing.
we stayed there last week and it was amazing don’t fall for videos like these and experience it for yourself I recommend booking with royal elite membership we had the best time of our lives one thing I would agree on is to avoid the buffet since it’s meant for mostly kids and kids are running wild in their while their parents just sit on their phones so I would recommend going to royal elite only restaurants for breakfast and lunch and only book dinner with the a la carte restaurants
We went there with 20 other people, for a wedding, and had a great time. No complaints at all - in fact, my wife and I are going back this March for 9 days and can’t wait. I guess I was too busy enjoying the scenery, food , shows and relaxed jungle atmosphere to notice any problem with the wifi. Didn’t even turn the TV on when we were there. We didn’t find it dirty at all. There is no beach to swim out from, due to a hurricane washing the sand away, but the water park is great. Whiners gonna whine!
I was there Sep 16-24 and, well, this review is really outdated. There are extensive renovations, massive staffing increases, new food and beverage manager, and much more has improved. Every hotel is struggling to get back to normal after COVID shut everything down. Staff shortages have been filled with people who speak a little English but try hard. Yeah, the buffet is a bit lack luster, but is improving, and the a la carte restaurants are great. The only part of the resort that has not been fixed is the beach. When a hurricane destroys the beach and exposes a protected coral reef, the hotel has no choice, it must leave it as is. Same for every other hotel in that area, this is a protected coral reef that cannot have sand placed over it to replace the lost beach. Remember, you are going to be in the jungle so expect jungle related activities from the animals.
Hopefully they continue to get back on track. The problem, isnt the natural erosion of the beach, it is the fact that they still advertise it as a white sand beach. The resort still uses 10 year old photos to say the beach is in perfect condition. When asked, they said the beach is white sand - outright lying to customers. This is a very mismanaged hotel. We travelled during and after covid to surrounding hotels and it wasn't this bad.

@@experiencethis360 I can't argue the use of old pictures, then again, every hotel I have ever stayed at that is more than a few years old uses the pictures from when it was first build on their site - agreed, it's misleading. I believe the biggest problem is with the word beach. Most people don't understand what the word beach means... "a strip of land covered with sand, pebbles, or small stones at the of a body of water". Technically, there is a beautiful white sandy beach, however, the ingress into the Caribbean Sea is treacherous as the beach abuts the coral reef below the water level. This should be explained better and google maps shows it quite clearly that the beach has been drastically eroded and reduced, and thus the coral reef is now fully exposed. And as for Hotel Management, they have replaced many of the managers and the standards are much higher and much better than a year ago. They were constantly cleaning the pools and trimming the foliage, cutting down coconuts overhead (for safety), the food and beverages have improved a lot, the resort is recovering, albeit a bit slower than some others in the area. Sandos has realized the shortcomings at this resort and is in the process of addressing them. I have no interest in the hotel, but hate so see old reviews that don't reflect the current situation, either great or terrible. We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 day visit there and would return again and recommend this resort for those looking for a unique experience. There are major renovations underway at the resort now, including gutting and rebuilding the older family section and La Riviera restaurant. They are also replacing the deck flooring at the "El Mapache" bar. Not picking a fight, but just want to get the current info out there, the resort is currently being brought up to higher standards.
This is good news! It could be a fantastic resort! I am wondering if they canned the management and started with a fresh mindset. Maybe the old management knew they were on their way out - so stopped caring. There are some mixed reviews both good and bad that are pretty recent. It takes time to change things up to a better standard, but I am happy they are progressing. I'll probably revisit this resort again in the future. We did a few years back and it was decent, but they did let it slip to some horrible conditions considering the competition is doing a much better job. All the best! and Happy Travels!@@grahamlovell773
We never got any. That "water" table was set up once in the whole 10 days we were there but they had no cups. Other resorts give you welcome drinks and have a bar handy. This place sucks in every way.
4 pools not 2. Select pool, RE Pool, main pool and Tortuga pool. Beach has eroded you got that right but that is all. Guess you only walked through and didn't stay.
There are two pools available, unless you upgrade, as I said in the video. We stayed here a number of weeks, as Sandos gave us comps to stay at their hotels for free. After a few days, we had had enough, and ate at their sister resort and outside the resort. During the time, the Tortuga pool was shut down four times due to high levels of bacteria. The water park kid's area was also shut down due to e-coli and other contaminants. When management from their regional director came in they were appalled at the condition that the resort was operating at.
Lucky you. We had a porter carry our luggage by hand half way around the resort because his boss told him to. We wanted to wait for an available buggy, but they insisted. They treat their employees poorly here. @@OutoftheDarkInvestigations

IT IS COMPETE GARBAGE
OMG
Zero stars.
Yikes!

IT IS THE WORST

Gawd no! Don't pay those prices. That should be $150-180 a night per person all inclusive. The infant should be free. @@domanisarapeggio
Hello, stayed
at sandos caracol for 3 days and couldn’t get much done.

Yes, it kind of fell apart very quickly. There was a management change, but they are back to making it miserable again.
The first resort I went to closed down. lol

TRASH RESORT,
Seems pretty inaccurate.
That sucks if its really got that bad, I really enjoyed the resort last year
I am unsure what had happened, but I suspect a management change over. The other resort Sandos Playacar is totally different -great food, clean and the workers seem to enjoy themselves a lot more. This could be a really great resort, if they would just get back to what they were doing.

GROSS
