All that power coming out of a 5' 2" man...that is 10 ft tall on stage. I'm seeing them 2 times in November in Japan...I just went in May of this year, and saw them twice. There is literally no band out there that comes close . If you get a chance , go see them live. I'm 62, and started going to shows when I was 14. I've seen hundreds of bands. Bar none... Dir en Grey is #1 for live performances. Bloodywood is #2. Seeing them in Japan is worth every freaking dime.
I am a bit addicted to watching people meet this song for the first time because I adore this band and this song, admittedly, and yours was one of my favorites! The raw surprise and delight was so dang good, the enthusiasm!! It's so nice to see it again for the first time through someone else's eyes, thank you so much for this gift.
What an awesome reaction! Thank you for getting back to them! As you can already guess from Rick's comment they are still together [same line-up since 1997, never had a break or anything]. They are an incredibly interesting band to follow because you never know what they will do next and it constantly seems like they don't know either, like everything just falls into place just when it's getting out to people ^^'.Not counting the last two years they incessantly tourJapan and frequently visit Europe and the U.S. [last time in 2019/2020]. The venues they play overseas are usually pretty small [around 800-2000 people] and not to Japan-standards + they have to make cuts here and there because playing overseas [especially in the U.S.} is incredibly expensive - so we usually don't get certain song combinations that would demand for more equipment to travel with and so on. But apart from that I can tell you that their shows are close to religious experiences. You should be aware, however, that Kyo favors delivering a songs emotion over hitting notes [and after a stage accident in his early 20s he is partially deaf on one ear] . He really makes you feel every word he sings to your bones and leaves bitemarks on them. If you were up for another long song I would recommend The World of Mercy or as BeckMax suggested their remake of Macabre live from Tabula Rasa in 2013. The song is over 16 minutes long though and won't be at all what you might expect after seeing Vinushka - which is the best reason to do a reaction to that one ^^ th-cam.com/video/Lj8Ls01Zmo8/w-d-xo.html [The World of Mercy, concert without audience, was live streamed to TH-cam] th-cam.com/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/w-d-xo.html [macabre] But if you wanted to check some shorter songs first I would recommend either Rinkaku or Magayasou. Rinkaku is simply awesome and plays a lot with his higher register. Magayasou will show you some mind-boggling vocal switches. Both come from their 9th album ARCHE. th-cam.com/video/dkc6pCCDnes/w-d-xo.html [Rinkaku] th-cam.com/video/-TQoFfaohBc/w-d-xo.html [Magayasou] And like gucci maul I would be over the moon if you would consider checking out Kyo's second band sukekiyo which is more experimental rock [sometimes with jazzy elements and spanish guitars, sometimes quite electronic and than venturing into 80s pop]. My suggestion would be Junboku, muku de arou ga th-cam.com/video/1qmeR6flqvY/w-d-xo.html two more things: You can't really go wrong with pronouncing the band's name. It was made up from three different languages. If you wanted to get close to that try pronouncing Dir like deer and en like a slightly nasal 'o' - and I have NEVER heard anyone pronounce the band that way 😂 In Japan its written as ディルアングレイ [diru an gurei] which are the same words pronounced in Japanese - so there really is no right or wrong. And if you want lyrics you can look up Kaya and perixreloaded here on TH-cam. Both do very well - and most importantly annotated - translations, because Kyo's style of writing can get very poetic and most of the time it's really difficult to decide how to translate them [how do you translate the shape of a Kanji for example? Kyo frequently uses unusual kanjis that add additional meaning or uses visual word plays which are of course only visible when reading the lyrics rather than listening to them.] Kaya also uses high quality videos so her cannel is alway highly recommended for any reaction video! I did choose different versions for Rinkaku and Magayasou though, because I adore those two versions ^^'. In sukekiyo Kyo often uses a personalised, female voice. In Dir en grey he uses more universal voices and concentrates on human pain/suffering, even though some songs have a first person narrator they tell of topics that many people can relate to. Thank you again for this awesome reaction 😊I hope you will get back to them soon[er]. Have a great weekend!
Passio is one of the best when it comes to filling in the gaps and explaining things in depth. They're like the lore expert when it comes to Dir En Grey \m/
As a fan of this band, it's a joy to see someone fall in love with this band. So pure reaction. One day they blew my roof off too and sunk into my very heart, and they do not diligently continue to do this to this day. Personally, in my opinion, Dir En Grey is the best thing that has ever happened to music. I'm a music lover and I love a lot of other music with all my heart, but these guys...they turn me inside out, get to the very core and make me feel something incredible. Their music makes me feel alive. I watched your reaction with a big smile from ear to ear, singing along the way. This song, this performance, every time I see and hear it, touches me to the depths of my soul and gives me goosebumps. And being in person at their concert is so exciting that you forget how to breathe. Especially if you understand what this song is about. I sincerely hope that you will take the time to listen to or watch other songs of this band. They are incredible. Thank you so much for your videos! (Btw try Sukekiyo & Petit Brabancon too) P.s. you're badass!
"when I go back and read the lyrics I'm gonna understand..." 😅 yeah..... I don't know if anybody completely understands Kyo's lyrics, regardless of language. Thank you for this video though, I really enjoyed re-watching one of my favorite songs with you. I like to sing so I recognize just how hard these vocals are and I really appreciate that you pointed it out. I think the melodies/composition itself are incredibly hard too, and the feeling he puts into it. He's constantly striving for both vocal excellence, and raw genuine emotion, and that in itself is insane to really try to do both at such an intense level. I saw them live a couple years ago and the performance felt so intimate and human despite them being the best f*cking musicians on the planet. Just wow. So glad you checked out Dir en grey.
One of the best reaction vids I've seen :D Too many sunstroke city denizens keep pausing in the middle of the song and over-analyze and kinda misplace what they've heard, but you know what's up :D
Thank you for reacting to Dir En Grey ❤️ The lead singer, Kyo, is by far my favorite vocalist and definitely better live. I know you are just getting into them, so definitely look at other comments for suggestions, like Vinushka is a great introduction. After you get an understanding of Dir En Grey, Kyo has two other projects with many big names in Japanese music: Sukekiyo and Petit Brabancon. Both are pretty different from Dir En Grey, but they are just as good a listen too. Hopefully you enjoy your journey with at least Dir En Grey, they are definitely worth it!
THANK YOU for reacting to Dir en grey. They have been my favorite band for 20 years now and this made my day. Dir en grey has such an amazing, diverse, avante garde sound. As my friend said, they are the Eevee of J Rock as every album sounds distinctly different.
Glad to watch another person get interested in this band! This was from their 2017 Androgynos tour, a 2 day arena show in Tokyo with another band called PIERROT. They’re doing another 2 Androgynos shows this October. If you’re serious about coming to Japan, I’d definitely recommend getting tickets. I’m absolutely going because there’s no way I’ll miss another performance like this.
Enjoyed your reaction. If you liked Dir En Grey you should chek out their Macabre live performance for a future reaction: th-cam.com/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/w-d-xo.html
This track is an absolute belter and the emotional impact hits like a train. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this live in London back in 2010. It was the last track before the encore and I'm not guna lie... tears were shed. Then they applied the coup de grace when they came back out and played 'The Final'. Was an emotional wreck at the end!
I'm moderately obsessed with this band. Been travelling to 6 countries across 3 continents, chasing their shows and the list would be longer if it hadn't been for the f*cking pandemic. I've watched dozens of reactions to their songs, most of them to this one because it's definitely one of their juggernaut flagship signature songs. And I can honestly say, I enjoyed your reaction the most so far. You seemed to have a genuine, heartfelt and real trip. And it was a f*cking blast to watch you lose your sh*t over this performance lmao. I feel so incredibly happy to be able to share my love for this band with people all over the world. They have absolutely, fundamentally shaped my life. And moments like this are a blessing for me, not even joking. There's so much more I could say. I'm just glad you enjoyed the goddamn song, my man! They are touring Japan at the moment and Japan did finally, after like 2 full years, open the border four tourism again, but I pray that we'll get another Europe- and US tour again soon. I will empty my pockets again, book me some flights and spend all my off days once more, because I can't f*cking get enough of Dir en grey. Have a fantastic weekend bro. See you on the road. Best wishes from Munich, Germany
Dir en Grey has performed in North America. Saw them in Montreal 2 times. They aren't my favorite band, but what they do, they do very well and Kyo has a very wide vocal range, which is very impressive.
Thanks so much for choosing this song. Several commenters saying the song is about the bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki. They use footage from those bombings but i don't think the song is "about" any one particular thing. Kyo's lyrics are never that straightforward.
Their performances here in USA, are not as intense as their ones in Japan. Kyo(the singer) is a 5feet and 2 inches tall and not even 120 pounds, but he has a very imposing presence. Kyo, is the lyricist of the band, and his way of writing is full of metaphors. He is very active in Twitter and instagram. He also has 2 other bands in which he sings. He doesn't rest at all, cause he also has a clothing line and he even models the clothes. If you ever decide to look for images of Kyo from Dir en grey, you will question your reality. He is like a chameleon, changes his looks so often and easily. Like others commented, the band has been active since 1997, and are still active. I will tell you, this band is not monotone, you will never see/listen their selections and be bored. When they have dark, crazy ass selections like Obscure, they also have some very beautiful ones, like Amber, Hotarubi or Jelous reverse. Hard to believe but, all are sang by Kyo. I highly recommend you World of Mercy live with no audience. I also recommend you the same songs original video. I highly recommend you to check out one of their more mellow songs. Akuro no aka live, it is from this same concert. th-cam.com/video/IK5kXSxLcnE/w-d-xo.html They also have an original video. They also
Weaboo, I am SO glad you enjoyed this so much, I had a feeling you'd be into it! I've been a HUGE fan of your reactions for a few years now, and your reacts really helped me cope with some pandemic nonsense. One of the greatest things is being able to experience someone else enjoying something that means a lot to you, and it's been really awesome to enjoy a lot of my favorite songs with you, even if we've never spoken. Dir en Grey is one of my favorite bands, and I definitely recommend checking out more. They only have a few songs of this length and performance value, but they have 11 albums (one just dropped this month), and their songs vary from almost pop to quite heavy. I've been hoping you'd react to Dir En Grey for ages, and you definitely did not disappoint! I hope you have a great day at work, man!
there's a comment stating that they're addicted to watching people meet this specific song for the first time and i agree. I often find myself yearning to be able to hear this song, or any song by dir en grey for the first time again and it's rly an insane feeling KHFDSKJFH im so happy you reacted, even though im so late to find this video.
Yoooo, So glad you found Dir En Grey. I heard about them in the 90's and they're still metal AF. Since you're checking out Japanese music I have to recommend X-Japan - Kurenai Live , X-Japan is Black Sabbath to Dir's Metallica. Also Check out Guitar Wolf - Jet Generation , it's just a loud ass bop. Now, I've seen Dir En Grey live, as well as Metallica, Slipknot , Slayer, Rob Zombie and many more... And hands down the wildest stage show of all time is GWAR. There are a bunch of videos of their concerts but few do them justice. It's insane theater and metal mixed with madness and meat.
You were one of the first reaction channels I followed years ago, and to see you on my feed again, and it's THIS song. I'm ecstatic. It's fantastic to see you again, and to experience this song with you, for the first time... So good. This band is my top. My favourite. Kyo goes to dark places, digs deep, lives it on stage. Stuff like this gets me through my existence, I'm disabled, permanently, and although I manage to make music it's easy to give up. Dir en grey inspires me, and also helps me to unlock a lot of the stuck emotions in me from lying here in my paused life... It gets me through. I feel this song every time. Every single time. Anyway, good to see you again Weeb. Reaction scene needs you, lol. Welcome back.
When I truly love something, as an asocial old F, I like to watch others react to these, through screens. What would be the chance anyways, for me to have friends who would dig such video? Let alone take the time to watch it with me. This stuff is BRUTAL. Most people listen to "all in one formula" radio stuff. So even if this video is kinda old in that ocean of spam, I wanna tell you your reaction on one of my all time fav song was priceless! Ty
They are still touring. I agree with everything you said. Thank you so much. I am as shook as you now, because of your praise of my fav band of my life.
Hey. an "old friend" popped up in my recommendations today reacting to one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Weaboo, you've grown up since I first saw you. I think you took a bit of a hiatus and I didn't subscribe to you so I didn't get updates. Good to see your reaction. I'm Gen X and I love reaction videos. We were the MTV music generation, the radio mixture ape generation and the record store generation. Music was huge for us and a way to meet with new people and make friends. Reaction videos are similar. It's great to see what others think of music that you love. I personally think Kyo is arguably the best rock vocalist there is. His range, performance an variation in style are unmatched, with maybe an exception for Mike Patton. Do some more reactions to Dir En Grey. You did start with one od their more epic songs, but they gave many other great ones. I recommend "Amon-symphonic", Different Sense, Macabre- Tabula Rasa, and "Dreambox", to name a few. Oh. and I'll leave with a subscribe this time. Glad to see your happy face again.
This video is the perfect encapsulation of why I miss early TH-cam. When people discovered new things and had raw reactions to it. I've been a fan of this band since 2005-2006. Song in particular that got me into them was Karasu. I watched a rough vid of them playing it back then. Was the weirdest cool thing I ever heard at the time in the US. Anyways before I go long, they just released a new album on the 15th of June. I absolutely recommend giving it a listen. Also if you do another react, they just uploaded a music video for the song, "Perfume of Sins" It's a wild one. Another band I recommend if you venture into more J-rock stuff is The Gazette. They've often been brought up in relation to Dir en grey. Last note you totally nailed the band's name on your first try.
Great reaction. So glad you had the experience you had here in this video. This has been my favorite band since the early 2000s and they've been absolutely unstoppable. My favorite album of theirs is Vulgar and the last song on there, Amber, is my favorite song of all time. Here are a few of what I think are their best performances floating around on youtube. Ryoujoku No Ame - th-cam.com/video/sIKA_Z_H--U/w-d-xo.html Midwife - th-cam.com/video/rsftozI09tM/w-d-xo.html Magayasou - th-cam.com/video/qBS-PfLXp7c/w-d-xo.html Rasetsukoku - th-cam.com/video/NyeEl_3wqZk/w-d-xo.html Tsumi no Kisei - th-cam.com/video/XnS1lX4fjPI/w-d-xo.html Macabre (another epic like Vinushka) - th-cam.com/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/w-d-xo.html Reiketsu Nariseba - th-cam.com/video/q-webgQxRsk/w-d-xo.html Probably the most high energy song I've ever seen live back in 2013. The crowd went fucking apeshit for the second half of the song. Was incredible. And, because its almost obligatory, an incredible NSFW music video of theirs - Obscure - th-cam.com/video/0sa2THmrfqE/w-d-xo.html Have fun on your Dir en grey journey, and please share more. I love reaction videos because its like looking back in time to when I first found things that I loved.
Awesome reaction! I was in the same situation when I heard them the first time! I got into Dir en grey in 2011 and I have since been to their live shows In Ca since 2011! Bucket list to see them in Japan! Love their music and I have live videos of them on my channel. 😃🤘🏼
There's a reason his nickname went from "Warumono" (Little Monster) to "The Demon Prince". Welcome aboard, my friend, for Hell welcomes all who approach.
I can only say that I try not to listen to this track at work after my colleagues noticed my tear-streaked face looking at the damn Excel document last time and thought I had gone crazy... 😅
vinushka be pronounce vin oosh ka also dir en grey be awesome live l got to see them live in orlando fl in 2008 l also hasll their albums kyo niimura(the vocalist) be a tenor with the vocal range of A1 - E6 so bout a 5 ocatve range
You GOTTA check out Dir En Grey’s DIFFERENT SENSE. You wanna see some wild vocals? Kyo does this demonic screech with a DEEP vibrato and I knocks me out ☠️
it is about the atomic bombs, the people and kids dying and in pain that showed on screen is just icing on the disgusting cake and you didnt even realize
I wouldn’t say it’s about the bombings. They often use a certain example as a main theme with their music videos but the meanings of their songs are a lot more general than that. Confirmed by the band. This song seems to be about evil in general. What makes us evil? What defines evil? What role does it play in our society and how does evil determine our role as human beings, both on a personal and on a general level?
i love DIR EN GREY and know they born the same year i was born i love them more thanks to my sister for that

This was written so beautifully 😊 Thank you for leaving this comment~ I hope from the bottom of my heart you will get to see them live one day!
I feel the same way!
Make sure to support Shinya’s page! It’s hard to believe a man with that explosive playing is shy and sweet. Welcome to the Diru club!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings. It's so nice to read that there are people who feel the same way.
I just spent my whole weekend watching people reacting to this vinushka live. I love it! 😂
i haven't watched this dude in a hot minute. so goddamn glad he's still here.
Dir En Grey is so sick bro. You’ll have to check out the song Schadenfreude off their new album Phalaris!
ES LA MEJOR REACCIÓN DE VINUSHCA CON LOS MAESTROS DIR EN GREY QUE HE VISTO , ME ENCANTÓ, SALUDOS.

I highly recommend you World of Mercy live with no audience. I also recommend you the same songs original video.
I highly recommend you to check out one of their more mellow songs.
Akuro no aka live, it is from this same concert.

They also have an original video.
They also
Weaboo, I am SO glad you enjoyed this so much, I had a feeling you'd be into it!
This was a lot of fun to watch. They're my favorite band, and are absolutely amazing.
there's a comment stating that they're addicted to watching people meet this specific song for the first time and i agree.
Right there with you, brother! I'm disabled too and they help me get the emotions out. And make me think. They challenge me like no other band.
Great to see you react to this song! This is such a powerful piece of music. More people should give it a listen!
SU REACCIÓN ME ENCANTÓ, EXCELENTE EL VIDEO DE VINUSHCA CON LOS MAESTROS DE DIR EN GREY, SALUDOS.
Welcome to the beautiful world of dir en Grey 🖤🖤🖤
This reaction is priceless
Saw them on the 2013 ghoul tour. Vinushka was mind blowing love.
i laughed so hard at 6:00 it's always like that with new people listening to DEG
J'adore ta réaction ! C'était vraiment fun!!
Ryoujoku No Ame - th-cam.com/video/sIKA_Z_H--U/w-d-xo.html
Midwife - th-cam.com/video/rsftozI09tM/w-d-xo.html
Magayasou - th-cam.com/video/qBS-PfLXp7c/w-d-xo.html
Rasetsukoku - th-cam.com/video/NyeEl_3wqZk/w-d-xo.html
Tsumi no Kisei - th-cam.com/video/XnS1lX4fjPI/w-d-xo.html
Macabre (another epic like Vinushka) - th-cam.com/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/w-d-xo.html
Reiketsu Nariseba - th-cam.com/video/q-webgQxRsk/w-d-xo.html Probably the most high energy song I've ever seen live back in 2013. The crowd went fucking apeshit for the second half of the song. Was incredible.
And, because its almost obligatory, an incredible NSFW music video of theirs - Obscure - th-cam.com/video/0sa2THmrfqE/w-d-xo.html
Have fun on your Dir en grey journey, and please share more. I love reaction videos because its like looking back in time to when I first found things that I loved.
MOAR DIR EN GREY!!
Awesome reaction! I was in the same situation when I heard them the first time! I got into Dir en grey in 2011 and I have since been to their live shows In Ca since 2011! Bucket list to see them in Japan! Love their music and I have live videos of them on my channel. 😃🤘🏼
Your reactions was the same as mine the first time I saw a performance of Vinushka lmao
There's a reason his nickname went from "Warumono" (Little Monster) to "The Demon Prince".
Welcome aboard, my friend, for Hell welcomes all who approach.
Kyo's got a confirmed 5 octave and one semitone vocal range, unconfirmed possibly up to 6 and a semitone.
I can only say that I try not to listen to this track at work after my colleagues noticed my tear-streaked face looking at the damn Excel document last time and thought I had gone crazy... 😅
..now... M A C A B R E
The song is about the suffer at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2, its very emotional, the part where the bomb drop on the screen... my tears in my eyes
If you think this is a performance
Just you wait till you see The World Of Mercy
vinushka be pronounce vin oosh ka also dir en grey be awesome live l got to see them live in orlando fl in 2008 l also hasll their albums kyo niimura(the vocalist) be a tenor with the vocal range of A1 - E6 so bout a 5 ocatve range
You GOTTA check out Dir En Grey’s DIFFERENT SENSE. You wanna see some wild vocals? Kyo does this demonic screech with a DEEP vibrato and I knocks me out ☠️
You can catch them in the US. They only go to the biggest cities though and they don't bring the screens and stage setup
Here’s the same performance with English subtitles th-cam.com/video/BVhAVHcu-r0/w-d-xo.html
you need to react to different sense symphonic live version by them, vocals are crazy on that one.
I love it ❤❤❤ i love you kyo's God
Konichiwa bit** 🤣🤣
Reaction 👍, please, check their songs World Of Mercy and Uroko. It's amaizing performance
it is about the atomic bombs, the people and kids dying and in pain that showed on screen is just icing on the disgusting cake and you didnt even realize
This song about pain and anger of japanese people. This song about nuclear attack on Hirosima and Nagasaki. Yes.😂
