I just discovered this, which is wild considering I have been listening to alvvays since their first album was released - i got into marry me archie within days of the video's release on youtube... glad they're doing well... i also like angel olsen and like tessa violet and superorganism... idk. there seems to be a bit of a resurgence in "alternative', specifically in the dreampoppy/twee-ish, mid-eighties to early-nineties british underground sound resurgence (a la cocteau twins, tallulah gosh, etc...oh, and can't leave out belle&sebastian, what a great group)
I have to wonder is Hazel has heard Bach's, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140. Translation from German, "Awake, the voice is calling us." There is no shame in that. I love the throwback to 60's sound in this, but I have to give a special nod to, Waiting, and that Working Percussion Section. ~Abosulty a modern take on the Detroit Sound. Such a Gem.
this album is incredible. the melodies in these songs are truly sublime and i don't recall ever feeling such a range of emotions in the space of 36 minutes. "combat" is perfect. thank you.
I can't really pick a song I like yet. I really love her earlier recordings. Her voice is recorded beautifully here. Her ex-producer Jackson Phillips (Day Wave) released a record today as well.

Woa.. You might be the most balanced between unique/artistic and pop/catchy that I've ever heard. Your accecible yet refreshing. Your melodies are catchy af without feeling like some manipulative annoying brain worm. You sound like you could fit perfectly snug in a Top 40 commercial playlist while simultaneously sounding like you didnt consider doing so whatsoever. Amazing.. oh and btw your melodies give me goosebumps just off sheer note and progression, take away the amazing texture of your voice . And one more thing lol I love how you rebel against the natural progression of a vocal run at times , like, any other vocalist would clearly go to a C based on the instrumental and the beginning of the line, but you say fuck that and fall to a B or some shit. Am I the only one that was disappointed by this release? I’m a huge fan of everything she put out before and was super hyped for this, but it just fell really flat compared to the older material IMO. I can’t even get fully through this record, it’s so damn boring.
This album seems no where near as fun to sing, play or listen to as the last one... Sorry, I keep trying it, but this album means nothing to me. It’s boring...

Listened to the whole album, i like all the songs that i hadn't heard before. I get 60's vibes from the sound. I'm old enough to remember 60's music.
